Deep in the heart of the land of the mayas, this property offers you a rare opportunity to experience life in a mayan village. 50km SE of Merida, Yucatan, in the village of Chunkanan, you will find Sac Nicte (mayan for White Flower), your little corner of paradise. Three typical mayan houses with palapa roofs, rented together as a single unit, are set in private tropical gardens. Ideally suited for up to four guests sleeping in hammocks, two more hammocks can be provided, giving accommodation for up to six guests. There is a large lap pool, whose pure water supply is pumped by windmill from a 14m well. Hammocks, linen, kitchen equipment, daily maid service and 24 hour offsite caretaker are included. The facilities are both luxurious (!) with hot running water in the bathroom, electric light, a cd player, a refrigerator and indoor cooking facilities - and rustic - you sleep mayan-style in hammocks (there are no beds), the bathroom is not en suite, no a/c, and no tv. For the intrepid traveller, this is all part of the adventure! The area is well known for its wonderful birdwatching opportunity, and many different and rare species can be seen from the comfort of your mayan house. The night skies are a star-gazer's delight. Authentic mayan meals cooked on three stones, tasting fresh and smokey, can be delivered to your door. A Mayan Ceremony can be arranged, held by a genuine mayan shaman. You can have your wedding or commitment ceremony, baptism or naming ceremony, spiritual cleansing, attract love and success, or just celebrate your gratitude for the wonderful things in life. Sac Nicte is the ideal location for a beautiful ceremony. The village of Chunkanan is the starting point for visiting the three famous cenotes (sacred underground lakes) by horse-drawn mini-rail truck (also known as the Cenotes of Cuzama). Staying in Sac Nicte you will be able to go early, or late, when the cenotes can be appreciated in their true magnificence in peace and solitude. A special night-time visit to the cenotes can be arranged. Sac Nicte is a perfect base for visiting the archaeological sites of Acanceh and Mayapan, the Lagunas of Yalahau, and many cenotes hidden in the jungle, known only to the locals. There is an excellent restaurant in the village of Chunkan, serving delicious Yucatecan food. The rate quoted below is for up to four guests. For stays longer than two days, the prices are adjusted according to the number of guests.

Me hubiese gustado quedarnos mas días.
I have taken the liberty of translating Carlos Blume's review so that non-Spanish speakers can appreciate his experience of staying at Sac Nicté.
Sac Nicté is quite close to Mérida and a few steps from the charming little village of friendly and kind people. What Elizabeth (the owner) has achieved here is worth visiting and experiencing. With her decision to create Sac Nicté she has allowed us the opportunity to enjoy a true Mayan moment, to live as they have throughout the centuries. We slept in hammocks which was a surprise, but we awoke cured of aches, and very comfortable, and it is how the mayans sleep now. The starlit sky was fantastic, and sound of silence and the life we could not see, and which we usually do not think about. The services that Elizabeth offers, with her caretaker Don Santiago and his wife, dedicated with care to make you feel the best guest, give peace and attention that you could not have expected, and more. The typical installations were more than adequate, with unexpected details, and a large swimming pool that is truly refreshing. I would have liked to stay for longer. We should not forget to mention that this is the centre from where the famous truks leave for the cenotes, an unforgettable experience travelling on the rails of the ancient henequien haciendas (from the times when nylon did not exist and were the source of work for so many people). While you are in Sac Nicté do not leave without a day in the cenotes and caves, experience them, enjoy yourself, and return to become part of the this world, and prolong your experience and stamp it onto your soul for ever. All thanks to Elizabeth who is the one to whom I give thanks, and wish the best of luck. I hope to return soon with friends and my other children so we can relive this experience.
Sac Nicte is an incredible place! It is a true blend of rustic with luxury. The pool is heavenly. The kitchen is well stocked, with all needed utensils and items. A very kid friendly space ---- My three year loved running around the large yard, playing with rocks and searching for lizards. The pool is easily watchable from the kitchen. Santiago, the caretaker, cut down a coconut for my daughter so she could drink the fresh water.
Watching the hummingbirds each morning was a delight.
Elizabeth responded to all of my emails promptly. She was wonderful to deal with.
As stated by another Guest, do not stay here if bugs freak you out.
I had an incredible time here. Meeting nice people in town. Walking around. Forcing myself to slow down my pace. Many of the cenotes in this area are overrun with tourists, but Santiago will take you early in the morning or late at night. I spent a morning there and had the entire cenote to myself for over an hour. It was incredibly peaceful. I hope to return again to Chunkanán.
If bugs freak you out, don't stay here.
Muy agradable lugar. La casa es ideal para pasar unos días en el campo. Disfrutamos mucho el espacio, seguro volvemos.
Our stay at Sac Nicte was fantastic. It really is a wonderful experience to sleep in the traditional Mayan hammock and it is quite comfortable!
We really loved the pool, and the quiet and privacy of the garden. Waking up to the singing of the birds was really enjoyable.
While visiting mayan sites, it is quite amazing to stay in a traditional village and experience it first hand! The shape of the house provides a very nice energy.
Unfortunately we couldn't try the typical mayan meal, but we loved cooking our meal in the kitchen and really enjoyed the oval room to have dinner. Maybe next time!
The visit to the cenote by horse carriage is really a fun adventure! And all that the region has to offer.
Thank you again for a great opportunity!
My husband, I and two friends enjoyed Elizabeth;s fabulous hospitality for two days at Sac Nicté durning a 24-day road trip through southeast Mexico. We had many wonderful experiences along the way but this was definitely one of the highlights. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer because Elizabeth has created a truly unique and beautiful environment with many generous and considerate details and comforts.
None of us had ever slept overnight in hammocks before so I was a tiny bit concerned about how we would do. We all were surprised how comfortable we were. Screened windows and doors allowed us to keep the windows and doors open to enjoy the breezes and sounds of nature all day long.
We so much loved the beauty of the private compound that we had to force ourselves away from bird watching from the swimming pool to walk into town to take the cenote tour. In the end we were very glad we did because it was a really fun to travel to the centoes in the horse-drawn carts and swim in the three cenotes.
We had arrived with groceries and prepared most of our meals in the kitchen which was complete with a refrigerator/freezer, double-burner gas stove, utensils, pots, dishes, glassware, etc.
Don Santiago, the caretaker, was very friendly and helpful during our stay and we enjoyed his wife's cooking one night. I look forward to returning to Sac Nictè for a longer stay because I found it really hard to leave.
Sac Nicte gives a wonderful opportunity to experience the local heritage and tradition. The location is perfect for visiting the Ruta Puuc and the cenotes. The property is secluded yet very safe with a unit for sleeping, one as a bathroon and one as a living room. We recommend the cenote tour and finishing the day in the private pool of the property. Elizabeth seems to be very supportive of the village and gives the option of a dinner and / or breakfast prepared by the wife of her great superintendent Santiago.
We stayed only one night but one could easily stay longer at Sac Nicte.
I am English and have lived in Mexico for more than ten years. I came here from London to retire from working as a violinist and violin teacher, but found living in Merida offered many opportunities, including playing in the Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatan. I created Sac Nicte as an oasis to escape from the bustling city of Merida, and am happy to be able to share with you this unique and wonderful mayan village experience.
