Where you’ll be

Otsu, Shiga-ken, Japan

Azalea House is on the slope of Mt. Hiei and a little far from the streetrs of Kyoto or Otsu. For example, even from the Ginkakuji area just at the foot of Mt. Hiei, it takes 15 minutes to get there by car and 25 minutes by bus. Since Covid-19 bus service has been drastically reduced and the last bus starts from downtown Kyoto at 20:00, and from Otsukyo Station at 19:10. For those who want to enjoy the nightlife, Azalea House might not be the best choice.
This demerit, however, is a merit, viewed from another angle. Azalea House is rich in nature, as it is in a housing development surrounded by forest. There are a lot of wonderful trekking paths around it. For examplem, by walking one hour and a half, enjoying wild flowers and birds and even wild deer by chance, you can get to the bonfire site of Daimonji Fire Festival and command a panoramic view of entire Kyoto City.
The required times by car from Azalea House to famous spots in Kyoto and Otsu are: Ginkakuji(17 min.), Gion(24 min.), Kiyomizudera(29 min.), Kinkakuji(29 min.), Fushimi-inari(33 min.), Arashiyama(41 min.); Miidera(17 min.), Hama-Otsu Harbor(18 min.) etc.
