Experience downtown living in the Old Mountain View Neighborhood in the heart of Silicon Valley. You have an entire house to yourselves including a large backyard appropriate for kids and adults.

The Space

2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1,510 sq ft (140 sq meters).
Master bedroom has a queen size bed, a cozy "office" space, it's own bathroom with stall shower, and sliding doors leading out to the beautiful yard and private hot tub.
Second bedroom has bunk beds as well as a full sized futon to sleep additional folks.
Kitchen is very large with granite counter tops, large island, 2 sinks, beautiful oak cabinets, and a table that seats 6 people. Fully stocked kitchen.
Living Room has a flat screen TV with DVD player and a real wood burning fireplace.
"Dining" Room has been converted into a playroom fully stocked with kids toys.

There is wireless internet access and cable TV with Sports Package.

Large backyard has a deck, a patio area for outdoor dining and entertaining, and a hot tub spa that accommodates 4-6 people. The collection of redwood and other trees provide privacy for the hot tub while still allowing perfect star-gazing. Depending on the time of year, you can help yourself to fresh lemons, oranges, loquots, and figs from our many fruit trees and even fresh eggs from our two hens! The yard has a chicken coop with two hens. They're very quite and you do not need to do anything with them, but they are fun to watch at times!

Our home is a short 3 block walk to downtown Mountain View's Castro St with hundreds of restaurants of every nationality. We're also a short walk to the Steven's Creek Trail, as well as CalTrain (a Baby Bullet train stop to San Francisco and San Jose) and Light Rail. Close to highways CA85, US-101, CA237 and I-280 (although you can't see or hear any of them). Close to that large search company that starts with "Goo" and ends with an "gle", that business-oriented social networking company that starts with a "Linked" and ends with an "In", Microsoft, Apple, and many other high-tech companies (sorry about being obtuse, but Airbnb hides those company names thinking you are trying to post a website). Less than 6 miles to Stanford University and Stanford Hospital and less than 2 miles to El Camino Hospital.

If you have any issues with check-in and check-out times or any special requests for your arrival, please just let us know. Some friends from the East Coast cannot start a day without Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Not just any coffee, it has to be their brand. Caf or Decaf? Soy milk or Half-n-half? If you have a request, just let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Guest Access

Entire private home on a large downtown lot. Private backyard with a deck, patio, and private hot tub. We just removed our play structure as our kids grew out of it and we'll be replacing it soon with a trampoline.

Interaction with Guests

We rent our entire property so we will not be staying there at all during our Guest's stay. We try our best to meet the Guest when they move in to show them around and at the end to collect the keys. However, we also have a secure process to exchange keys even when we cannot meet, and we have a series of videos that we share access to in order to introduce you to our home. We're always available 24/7 by email or phone during your stay. Some guests like to interact a lot, asking for recommendations on restaurants, kid's activities, local outdoor activities, etc. Others we hear from at the beginning and then the end only. Whatever the Guest prefers!

The Neighborhood

Our house is in the heart of the Old Mountain View Neighborhood, just three short blocks from vibrant downtown Castro St. The people of Old Mountain View love their neighborhood and are very proud of it. We think our Guests will love it as well!

Getting around

We are three short blocks from the Mountain View Transit Center which has company buses to many hi-tech businesses, public buses, CalTrain (a Baby Bullet train stop to San Francisco in 45 minutes and San Jose in 14 mins) and Light Rail (goes right to Great America Amusement Park as well as the SF 49'ers new Levi's Stadium). We're close to highways CA85 (0.5 miles), US-101 (1.8 miles), CA237 (1 mile) and I-280 (4 miles), although you can't see or hear any of them. We have a long driveway for parking as well as street parking. We're 10 miles from SJC (San Jose Airport), 26 miles from SFO (San Francisco Airport) and 34 miles from OAK (Oakland Airport).
The City of Mountain View is one of five Bay Area cities participating in the Bay Area Bike Share Program launched in 2013. The system enables members (24 hour, 3-day, and annual memberships available) to check out a bike from a network of automated stations, ride to their destination, and return the bike to a different station. It provides a convenient and affordable transportation alternative or supplement to cars.
Mountain View's seven bicycle stations are located near the following transit, employment, and service/retail destinations. I have also indicated in parenthesis, the distance of each station from our home.
*Mountain View Transit Center (0.3 miles)
*City Hall (0.4 miles from our home)
*Castro Street/El Camino Real (0.7 miles)
*Evelyn Avenue Light Rail Park-N-Ride (0.6 miles)
*San Antonio Shopping Center (2.0 miles)
*San Antonio Caltrain Station (2.3 miles)
*Rengstorff Avenue/California Street (1.5 miles)

  • My family spent a week at Mike and Anne's place while I was on a business trip in the area. The location is simply unbeatable - easy walking distance to the shops on Castro St and the corporate shuttles, and the house has a great cost California feel. My girls loved the hot tub!

  • My husband, our 2year old son and I stayed at Mike and Anne home for the Christmas and `new Years period. We had a very good time there – the house is in a great location, convenient to downtown Mountain View, and is very nicely set up for kids. My son enjoyed backyard ground and two chickens))) The house is very well equipped, has everything that a family needs! Mike was extremely helpful: he explained how everything worked in detail and was answering all my questions very quick, although he and his family was traveling very far. I would highly recommend this house to everyone who wants to have a comfortable stay in Silicon Valley!

  • Anne and Mike have a lovely home and were incredibly accommodating. My family and I had our thanksgiving dinner there and they had everything we needed, including a brand new folding table they bought just for the occasion (thanks again for that!)
Even though it seems this is their full time residence, the house is very clean and tidy and not cluttered at all. I highly recommend this home.

  • It was such a wonderful stay at Anne and Mike's house in Mountain View. Although they were out of town on holiday, they gave us perfect timely supports through e-mails from different time zone. Since we have similar aged children as Anne and Mike's, they also gave us information on summer camps, schools, doctors etc. We loved the house because it was very clean and well-maintained, although the neighborhood was so beautiful, nice and relaxing, it's only several minute walk (it was very nice walk) from Cal-Train station and the main street where you can find a wide variety of restaurants! We were also amazed that the standard of the restaurants in Mountain View was quite high. We definitely would like to come back in the future.
Thanks to Mike, Anne and her mother for various help and the kindness.

  • Mike and Anne treated us like family. There home is just that, a home... Comfortable, clean, and equipped with everything you would need in the day to day. The neighborhood was also amazing. 5 minute walk downtown!

  • Anne and Mike's home is in a great location, convenient to downtown Mountain View, and is very nicely set up for kids. Ours especially enjoyed the children's books and the backyard play structure.

The home is fully stocked -- it's where they live most of the time, so it has all the appliances, condiments, and other little supplies, and Mike generously invited us to use anything we needed. They also left a basket of local food specialties, including special snacks for our daughter who can't eat gluten, which helped us feel comfortable and welcome.

Mike and Anne clearly care about their guests as people, not just income. We accidentally left our daughter's favorite stuffed toy behind, and Mike offered to mail it to us at no charge.

We would gladly stay there again.

  • My family of four - a mom, a dad, a 2.5 yr old boy, and a grandpa - stayed at Anne and Mike's for the weekend. We had a wonderful time. I love the location of their home, which was the primary reason we picked it. It is just a few blocks from many great restaurants, a couple of our favorite shops and book stores, the train station (great entertainment for a little boy), and one of the best Bay Area farmer's markets on Sunday. Beyond that, their home was very welcoming. They'd left out some spare toiletries, a welcome basket (I loved the lemon cookies!), and some guide books for us in case we needed some ideas. The kitchen was fully stocked and the hot tub was a treat. But, probably the best of all was the play structure in the backyard and access to the toys in the playroom. We could have been entertained all weekend without leaving! Thank you, Mike and Anne!

  • Well where do I start to describe such an excellent host and location? I'm happy to say that our first stay using Air BnB was very positive and even more importantly that Anne and Mike's lovely home was exceptional and delivered much more than one would expect ( and we have stayed in many such non Air BnB rentals in the US and Europe)
On our arrival for a 12 night stay( which was late in the evening due to various delays) Mike was there to greet us, and to give us a tour and guide to the house, it's facilities and the locality. A super host who was always at the end of the phone or email to answer any query we had, we couldn't recommend this Air BnB location highly enough. The house itself was spotless, everything in full working order and within a stone's throw of the centre of Mountain View. (walking distance)
Some of the many highlights were:-
*A welcome basket with local produce and organic goods - including milk, coffee and OJ- perfect when you have travelled for 15 hours on a plane with no time to shop, and two small children!
Also in the bathroom were a supply of all types of toiletries if by chance we had forgotten anything.
*Full stocked kitchen and laundry- a blessing when you can get the laundry out of the way before travelling home. We didn't need to buy (Although we did initially expecting we would need them) anything like washing powder etc but moreover the kitchen had everything from a coffee grinder to a baking set, if the need arose!
*Mike made having the kids with us so much easier by putting in a cot and highchair there plus letting us borrow books on kids activities and travel guides.
*Like that, Mike was kind enough to let us use the printer and telephone for calls within US which saved us some dollars!
*The back yard was a real plus in my book- a wonderful play structure for kids of all ages, plus a great outside deck and BBQ. Oh and we got to use the spotless hot tub and pick some oranges and lemons from the trees they had growing there! Fantastic!
*Location - you can't beat it if you want to be near Mountain View and the nearby areas such as Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and even San Francisco( I went up to see my brother on many mornings during our stay)
*The house is bigger than the photos intimate, and the kids loved nothing better than to go from the front door all the way outside, so read spacious and a kind of haven if you are travelling. Mike even allowed us to use a jogging stroller and pointed out some scenic local runs.

I can't recommend Mike and Anne' and their house highly enough, especially if you have children and I would go on but have reached max capacity on the word limit!

About
Anne and Mike have been a couple since meeting at the University of Michigan in 1986. We love to travel and have lived in France, Japan, and China. We also had the pleasure of taking 18 months to travel the world in 1998 and 1999, visiting 15+ countries on a very low budget. We settled in beautiful Mountain View, CA in 2000 and have two active boys (7 and 9 years old). We have rented people's places on some of our world travels and our goal is always to leave the house just as we found it.
