Interaction with Guests
We enjoy answering questions about the City and things to do, enjoy having a drink on the porch if you want, but we default to giving you complete privacy and leaving you alone to enjoy the space.
French Place/Cherrywood is a nice, quiet neighborhood with lots of foot and bike traffic, lots of cute bungalows, people sitting on their porches and in their yard. We have lots of shade from all the big post oak trees in our area. We're walking distance from a great cluster of bars and restaurants, and easy walking distance to the northeast corner of UT.
Downtown is about 2 miles away, but we are near two convenient bus stops to get you around town on a variety of routes.
Other Things to Note
We have chickens in the backyard and we can usually spare a few eggs for a fresh breakfast.
We have a full bar for you to enjoy a few drinks from, and lots of books and art and artifacts from around the world. That said, a lot of those things are breakable, so this isn't the best place for young children, and we will need to be present at any parties to make sure nothing gets damaged.
I recently stayed at Kevin's listing for several weeks during SXSW, and the experience couldn't have been better. The place was clean, spacious and comfortable, with every amenity you could need. Kevin provided plenty of information covering pretty much anything you could ask for, and was at the ready if any additional questions arose. The location of this listing was really nice--centrally located to everything I needed, whether by walking, bus or short cab ride. All in all, I would most definitely stay at this listing again the next time I am in Austin.
I miss Austin!! And Kevin's amazing flat!! I had the most wonderful time, and Kevin couldn't have been more kind and attentive. They even gave me fresh eggs from the chicken coop! It is very well represented on the site, and the proximity to UT and other nearby establishments made this trip a perfect airbnb experience for me, as I was there to work. If I had had a car I would have needed to use it to get downtown, but there are several options for transportation without one. I look forward to returning to Austin and to Kevin's! Thank you Kevin!
Kevin's place is great! It was easy to get to from the airport, had plenty of parking and was near delicious restaurants and coffee shops. The flat was clean, comfortable, and quiet (even with construction in the backyard!) The bed was comfortable, the bathroom had toiletries and towels, and Kevin thoughtfully provided a variety of beverages in the refrigerator.
We checked in past midnight and Kevin was more than accommodating. He was easy to communicate with and proactive in contacting me with any potential inconveniences. I only had the opportunity to speak with Kevin for a brief moment but he was friendly and open to providing suggestions. My only issue was finding a place to plug in the hairdryer, but other than that Kevin's loft was the perfect Austin getaway!
Kevin and Bob were great at communicating with us prior to our arrival, giving us lots of tips to help make everything as smooth as possible, which ended up being the case. The listing is completely accurate; the apartment is more spacious than on the pictures and the decor is simply one a kind. The place is testament to Kevin and Bob's curious minds and their individual creativity. It took a while to go around the (spotlessly clean) apartment and take in all the incredible objects, collectibles and all the art. For us coming from Europe, we loved the neighbourhood, full of the history of Austin, and its proximity to the University campus and central Austin. Kevin and Bob even joined us for a tour around Austin, including a visit to the incredible LBJ library/museum, and very kindly took us to the most amazing Texan BBQ restaurant in the evening. The apartment is fantastic and Kevin & Bob are bright, kind and fun people.
Kevin and Bob were helpful, friendly and concerned that we were finding things to our satisfaction. The neighborhood is close to UT and downtown, and a nice place for a walk on a sunny day. The apt. is large and full of books on architecture and Texas history and full of folk art and many interesting objects. There's a comfortable rocking chair on the sun porch that makes a great place to sit and read and have a cup of tea. I would say that if you require all the modern kitchen appliances and a washer and dryer, a long term stay (we were there a month) might be a bit challenging for you, but all in all I would recommend the apt.
We do have a washer and dryer available on the back porch and free for renters to use; so sorry that didn't get communicated during your stay! We don't have a dishwasher upstairs, and our stove is a fun vintage piece that requires lighting with a hand lighter, but we do have just about all the types of coffee makers, bean grinder, utensils, pots & pans, mixing bowls, measuring cups, spices, dishes & glasses that a cook could need. If renters ever need a blender or food processor or the like, we have them to borrow downstairs. Glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise!
I loved this apartment and would stay here again. It has the feel of a funky, interesting B&B with lots of vintage Texas-themed art, furniture, and objets d'arte from the 40's, 50's, and 60's. Loved looking through cookbooks on Mexican cooking and loads of architecture magazines and books. The bedroom has a super comfy bed with lots of pillows and nice blankets. The bathroom had an assortment of shampoos and conditioners from hotels and big fluffy white towels (how DO they keep those towels fluffy?) There was a hairdryer for use also. We used the living room couch as a place for our son to sleep and that was fine. There were plenty of extra blankets. Oh, and there were extra umbrellas for us to use (which we needed) and bikes available although we didn't use those. There's a lovely porch room that's nice to sit in and read. The kitchen is super-well equipped and there was coffee beans and a grinder (hopefully) for us to use as we used it. They had left us a couple of beers in the fridge and invited us to dip (sip?) into their spectacular liqueur collection.
Wireless internet service was perfect. Noise level was great -- quiet street. If anyone was noisy, we might have been, clomping around on the 2nd floor.
Finally, the location was wonderful. We walked to the Thunderbird cafe as well as the Cherrywood cafe, and had breakfast tacos at Chilito's. They're also walking distance to a nice restaurant called the Salty Sow. You could probably walk to U.T. although it would take about a half an hour. Parking on the street was fine.
Our stay was excellent. Kevin's space is very cool, very unique, and very comfortable. In addition, he's a great host. The neighborhood is also quite nice. We totally recommend!
