"Ben and I had the most wonderful time while staying in " Casita Tranquila." We are into photography and wild-life watching, and I kid you not, we saw the majority of wild-life from Casita Tranquila itself. We saw three sloths, some Costa Rican squirrels, two parrots, four kinds of hummingbirds, toucans, lizards, six different types of butterflies, many other birds in the two week period that we stayed in the casita.
The house was really clean, well kept and stocked with basic things when we got there. We had no problem communicating with friends and family since the WIFI is really good and fast. We felt safe and comfortable while staying at Casita Tranquila, since there is a private gate, caretaker on property and also a safe in the house to put away any valuables. "

Casa & Casita Tranquila
Super comfy mattress, all cotton sheets & blankets, screened in above windows with bed netting for night comfort, room also has fan.
Casita Tranquila is an absolutely lovely home. My travel companion and I loved that it was located in the jungle amidst howler monkeys, hummingbirds, and various insects :) The casita was located far away from all the Puerto Viejo noise yet close enough for us to easily bike into town.
We really enjoyed getting to know Anna, Chad, Gimlee and Hughe (their Canadian cats!), and their adorable dog Alice. Anna and Chad were very attentive hosts- in addition to helping us with the basics such as food recommendations and travel tips, they helped us out by taking us to the local farmer's market and the bank. They are also very fun/interesting people to get to know!
We didn't get the chance to meet Kate but she was very informative and helpful; she provided a lot of information about Puerto Viejo and made sure we had everything we needed for a lovely vacation.
There are many beautiful beaches and things to do within biking distance of the casita. I recommend renting a bike from the property itself as it was cheaper than the town rental rates and it was extremely convenient.
Just a couple words of advice:
1. Take a headlamp for night time bike riding- the road leading to the casita is dark at night and there are some stretches of main road that are not lit. We're glad that Kate recommended this to us ahead of time.
2. There is a moderately steep hill leading to the casita- it's not difficult to climb but it can be tiring especially after a day out at the beach and it contains a lot of loose rocks. Again, it's not terribly difficult but it is something to be aware of.
3. Bring some bug/mosquito spray! Enough said :)
Casita Tranquila is a wonderful place to kick back and enjoy nature while still being close to the hustle and bustle of Puerto Viejo. I highly recommend it!
Mei-Li we loved having you at the casita! Re your mention of bugs, the casita is designed with screens at the top of the windows which are usually closed at night and then you can use the bed netting if you choose. Most guests comment on how few bugs there are which is normally the case due to not being right on the beach and the balanced of nature in the rainforest. Come visit again sometime...
Translation of Sylvie's review:
Our hosts were very friendly and especially very available to answer all of our questions. The casita is charming and pleasant, not far from the sea. You can open the large windows to observe nature. We saw a few animals and a wide variety birds. Thank you to our hosts for this beautiful beginning of trip to Costa Rica. What Sylvie loved about your listing: Your kindness and your availability . Good luck in the search for your little corner of paradise.
The house is adorable and set back on the property so it feels plenty private. The views from the house are nice because of the surrounding vegetation and gardens. We had a few rainy days and it was great to open up all the windows and listen to and watch the rain fall while reading a nice book. The house is located in Cocles and is located in a great location to bike to any of the many beaches that stretch from from Playa Cocles to Manzanillo and it is a quick bike ride into Puerto Viejo too so it was easy to go into town for dinner/drinks when we wanted to. There are bikes to rent from the property which makes it super easy because you can always just grab a bike and go without the hassle of going to a rental place.
Kate is very thorough with information about the property and surrounding area. Kate was not in town during our stay but Chad and Anna were staying the main house at the time and checked us into the casita. They were super friendly and helpful. We had a great time and would definitely come back!!
Had a lovely 4 day stay in Kate's Casita. Kate had left lots of practical info in the casita and it was very well kitted out. Great peace in the morning with all the shutters open enjoying breakfast on the porch/hammock surrounded by the sounds of the jungle! These can get a little loud at night if you are a city person like me and not used to monkeys howling at night etc - but all part of the experience!
Its set back from the main road a bit (5min walk up a dirt road like most places in PV) and a 5 minute cycle from town. Amazing beaches really close!
Overall great stay and we were looked after really well by our hosts!
thanks Chad, Anna and Kate!
We have described our stay at Casa Tranquila as life changing to all of our friends, the entire experience in CR was breathtaking. First, Kate; what an amazing host. Her upfront directions and careful planning made a seamless entry to finding the casita (although we had our own issues with rain and potholes), welcoming us the first day with a bite to nibble on,any suggestions of the best places to eat and visit, and openness to help us explore. I also cannot thank her enough for allowing, welcoming, and appreciating a gay couple visiting.
The casita is absolutely charming. If you plan to visit you have to be okay with being amongst nature. It is beautiful, a little slice of heaven, all that one really needs in life; not our fancy houses back in the US. If you are looking for a place that is close to everything while being part of the natural habitat (howler monkey woke us up on several days and wildlife in the yard), this is the best place with the best host.
Kate is a wonderful host, so kind and attentive. When we arrived at Casita Tranquila she welcomed us and showed us everything. The fact, that she's living just next to the casita wasn't disturbing at all. Casita Tranquila offers enough privacy and the house's providing everything you need: high speed internet, hot water, refrigerator, a small kichen, safe,...just everything! We loved staying at this wonderful place. Waking up every morning with the howler monkeys and falling asleep at night with the magical sound of the jungle. Thank you Kate for everything! We hardly recommend staying at Casita Tranquila.
Thank you Tascha and Patrick,
As I said, you both should be the poster people for absolutely great Airbnb guests in every way. Look forward to seeing you come back!
Pura vida on your other travels maybe they be magical...
ps thanks for the review, think your last line meant to say 'heartily' recommend staying at Casita Tranquila"...
we had a lovely stay in Puerto Viejo. the casita had everything we needed, perfect for a get away that is out of town but still has a supermarket 5mins bike ride away and town is 15mins bike ride. Kate was very helpful and made us feel right at home! very relaxing and quiet location, waking up to the sound of nature and the animals was bliss!
