First I have to mention that you need to have "LEASE CONTRACT" with me for using Chian.
This old cabin has 2 rooms. One is a 10 Tatami room and the other is a 3 Tatami room.
If you are 2 people, you can use the 3 Tatami room as a private room. The price is 6,900yen/night/room. If you are one person and want to use this room by yourself, the price is 4,900yen/night/room. There is no door but a curtain. For further information about this cabin, please go to "Chian: Timetravel to 100 year old". 10 Tatami room is used as a shared room (if there is another booking) or a living room (if there is an event).
We have electrical carpet, electrical heater, oil heatear and ect. But it's still cold if you come from warm country(no winter).
Heating oil is not free. Usually it costs about 1700yen/18L at gas station. So we need to charge 500yen/3 hours.
If you are not used to sleeping on the Tatami floor or have a backache easily, it may be difficult for you to sleep here. I recommend you to sleep on the bed at hotel. We have only simple Futon.
Using Airconditioning... 300yen/night
Using Washing machine..For free/first time
300yen/2nd time or more.
When you send me a booking request, please mention that you agreed with all the conditions and rules. And if you are with someone, please tell me about him/her.
Tomo San was very kind to us. He made sure we know how to get about and even recommended places to go in terms of gaining the most cultural experience in Kyoto. He's quite flexible and we were very comfortable being around him.
Great apartment, great location, great time! Tomo was very kind and helpful. Couldn't have asked for a better place.
We had a really good time in Kyoto (our favorite city in Japan after Tokyo).
We actually stayed at Tomo's house which is right in Kyoto, so it was easier for us to get around the city.
Tomo was very helpful. He showed us all the nice places to visit, where to rent bikes, where to eat.
Thanks again Tomo, and thanks for showing us the BEST place for RAMEN!!! Our favorite spot from Japan by far! :)
Tomo is a wonderful host !! Not only he speaks french and english perfectly but also be 's really helpful, he does his best to make the things easy and clear for you. He came to pick us up when we arrive in Kyoto after a tiring night in the plane, offered us a tea, gave us a map of the city with advice about the nice places to visit. He's quite busy and we didn't see him a lot but we had dinner with him one night, in a simple typical place close to the house. Then he played for us some yukulele and harmonica in our room, he likes music very much and enjoys sharing his passion !
We feel more than never in Japan in Chian, it's not very comfortable, toilet are outside and it sometimes smells like cats, but it's full of good vibes, and nice to stay there some nights. A nice experience with a very nice guy !!!
Tomo is a really friendly and kind person who went out of his way to make sure that our stay went as smoothly as possible. He gave us maps, travel advice and even arranged for a friend to bring our luggage to us in the centre of Kyoto on our last day so that we didn't have to put it in lockers. Tomo is a talented musician and he shared some songs with us and spent some time telling us a few insights about Japan which we really liked. His place is quite unique and we can' t imagine there are many places like it. Great shower and we really appreciated the heated carpet under the bed. It made our sleep very cosy!
Thanks Tomo. Two thumbs up !
Tomo is a nice and helpful guy.
Don't take the description lightly - if you really are looking for any comfort or features, look elsewhere. Even the basics. This is an old house in the outskirts of Kyoto. Access is not easy, so if you plan to visit the central sights, research transportation options. For a unique experience it is a good place, but I would recommend it for one night, because it is far from the city.
Tomo-san is a great host and he really enjoys hosting guests. He makes it his duties to make the guests feel comfortable and happy. My wife and I stayed at Chian for two nights. The first night we only arrived very late and didn't have dinner, and we went to the small wine and dine place (Teppanyaki Japanese Grill) called 京舞子 just a couple of minutes' walk from Chian and we enjoyed the food very much. The second night Tomo san hosted a BBQ dinner and his other two guests from Nostalji (Tomo's home) also joined the company. After dinner, the music jam session afterward was really fun. Later that evening we even had another late night beer session with the other American guest (the only other guest stayed at Chian that night), and Tomo was serving his homemade fish meats as snacks (and they're delicious!). The bus back to Kyoto town center was just really a short ride, only that the bus would stop running in the evening (before 9pm). But Tomo san will let you know how to get back to Chian if you're to stay late in downtown Kyoto. We enjoyed the stay at Chian, and enjoyed playing the old toys and also reading the old magazines he collected even though we couldn't read Japanese... (our Japanese friend translated it)
Tomo is a very friendly person and we absolutely had some very unforgettable experience in Chian. Nothing mordern and new, it was a bit far from city, and during the time we stayed, it was quite chilly Nov. But all in all, it was some unique experience in our time in Kyoto. Thank you Tomo for the accomodation. Sorry to leave the comment so late. Wish you and your friend are all well.
Our experience in Kyoto was fantastic! We were fortunate enough to have stayed at Tomo's place. He provided us with his local knowledge, maps, suggestions, and an emergency cell phone! We even had a music jam session with Tomo, We enjoyed the accommodations because we had an authentic experience, his place is cozy with a rustic touch. A big Arigato to Tomo for all his thoughtfulness and great hospitality.
