Our "get-away-from-it-all" self-catering cottage or gîte is on our 3 acre organic, sustainable small-holding. The little stone cottage is cool in Summer and cosy in Winter - no TV, no phone, no noise and no light pollution! - (URL HIDDEN)

The space
We are situated deep in Central France at its most rural and unspoilt at the foot of the Massif Central. Known as "le pays de bleu et vert"- the land of blue and green - for good reason. We are surrounded by ancient hedgerows and woodland dotted around with lakes and ponds that reflect the blue skies, and encircled by streams and rivers-a natural wildlife paradise! www.fermettelaforge.com

Guest access
Guests have access to the whole of the cottage and can wander around our gardens - there is a more private seating area to the rear of the cottage for exclusive use of guests.

Other things to note
We are a working smallholding; there are free range chickens and at times other animals wandering around, and some small farm machinery may be in use according to the season and other paraphernalia and tools around. We cannot automatically accept young children, as we cannot guarantee that the area is child-safe should young children escape from parental supervision. Babies and small children who are continually under adult supervision are welcome as are older children who are aware of the potential dangers; so please get in touch to discuss this before booking. A day bed with trundle bed in the bedroom provides for two older children and a travel cot, highchair and baby chair can be added on request.

We have transformed the old abandoned farm into a sustainable, organic smallholding that provides us with almost all our food. We have no near neighbours, and the only passing traffic is the postman! There is no light pollution, no noise - except for the wildlife! The air is pure and clear and life is lived at a pace dictated by the seasons and the weather - we have time to work, time for play, time for others and time for ourselves. We enjoy the tranquility here, but also enjoy going out to the many local events, fêtes and festivities that are put on for and by local people for the whole community.

Originally from North East Scotland and after travelling around Europe in an old campervan, I now live on our organic, self-sufficient smallholding in beautiful, unspoilt, rural France. I enjoy gardening, cooking, reading and many arts and hand-crafts including basketry, needlework, calligraphy and painting.
