A comfortable room and a good breakfast in my tiny Victorian house in a quiet street London's lively East End, just 7 minutes walk to Stratford station with its excellent transport connections will give you a great start to a busy London day.
The house is an end terrace brick built 19th Century Railway cottage
It is small uncluttered, simple, comfortable and clean. It has nothing fancy but all the basic things, wi fi.
Your room is upstairs, It is small but it has a very comfortable double bed, washbasin, and storage space.
Downstairs (steep stairs!) is the living-dining room with an open fire, a galley kitchen leading to a tiny garden, the bathroom is also downstairs (shower ) is shared .
I certainly can’t compete with a hotel, the room is small, but it is very clean, the sheets are cotton and will be ironed, the pillows are feather, there are towels, bath robes a hairdryer and a universal adaptor..
You will have your own door key so you can come and go any time. There is wi fi. The kitchen is small and not great for sharing but you are welcome to use it to prepare simple meals and snacks. I provide a cereal, toast, tea coffee fruit for breakfast.
You will be my only guests during your stay.
When you arrive I will give you your door keys, show you the ropes- wifi pass words, house eccentricities and local information and leave you to settle in.
This is my home, you will be my welcome guest, I want you to feel comfortable, at
I will do my best to make you feel at home, while respecting your privacy.I want you to feel welcome comfortable while you are are here. I am always happy to spend a little time with my guest swapping stories, and will help out with local information, but I am aware that you are not in London to see me, there is always a lot to do and see here, so when you are home you will need calm and privacy and space!
The area is lively, mixed and changing fast. There are good shops, a multi screen cinema and dozens of places to eat in the new Westfield Center, which I am told is the biggest shopping mall in Europe, There is typical east end market, good local pubs, and little cafe's restaurants on the route from my house to the station.
Stratford station has the Jubilee line and the central line ( 15 mins to the City 20 to Westminster. Docklands light rail- to Canary Wharf, Greenwich -cutty sark and Maratime museum. Overground to Richmond and Kew gardens. Rail to essex and connections to Eurostar.
When you arrive I will give you a set of keys - or a set each if there are two of you. After that just feel at home and come and go as you please. You are welcome to use the living room, and the kitchen for preparing snacks. I can't offer my guests laundering facilities but there is a service wash laundrette near by, so you can drop off laundry and collect it at the end of the day.
Interaction with Guests
I want my guests to feel comfortable, welcome and at home. I love to hear their stories and am happy to help out with maps planning ideas for days out , but I know London can be tiring and that you will need quiet, and privacy at the end of a busy day.
Stratford is a great base for a London trip. It has excellent transport connections, good shopping, and places to eat. You can take a swim in Zaha Hadid's gorgeous Olympic pool, explore the park, follow the canals down to the Thames or into Regents park - if you are a walker. Visit our Victorian theatre or our multi screen cinema. University of East London, The Excel Centre and the O2 are all nearby.
Its a seven minutes walk to Stratford Station with Central Line Jubilee line Underground. London Overground and the Docklands light rail Trains to Cambridge, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. Coaches to Stanstead Airport. 20 minutes bus to City airport. Train to Soutend Airport. Busses and night busses.
Other Things to Note
I know the fact that wel share the downstairs bathroom is not ideal but I do provide nice clean white bathrobes and there is a large wash basin in your room.
Check is flexible I can be home whatever time you arrive you just need to tell me when it is. Check out is 11am. but you are welcome to leave bags for the day and collect them before you travel.
Its a no smoking house.
Its no ta great place for small children because of the steep stairs.
I was with my daughter for a visiting trip in London.
We felt home from the first moment in Alisons beautiful house.
I can highly recommend to stay in this interesting area.
Breakfast was perfect and The romm we stayed in pretty.
Alison is a really nice and wonderful Person.
Lovely woman with a nice house . We felt like we were at home. Thanks for everything Alison
Alison is one of the most welcoming persons, I have ever met. Because I was arriving late, she offered me to have dinner with her. She does not want me to get in a hurry and find a place to eat. How thoughtful! During the stay we had really nice and interesting conversations. Alison is an inspiring woman and a great host - helpful, kind and courteous. Her home is lovely and comfortable -as described in the ad. The neighbourhood is very mixed with different cultural groups but not dangerous at all. One of the most greatest cafes is directly around the corner -selfmade food and great prices. Don't miss it! The tube is nearby, which brings you directly to the city center. A great alternative is taking the bus to Oxford Circus, which guarantees you a great view.
I would like to thank Alison for everything and definitely recommend her place!
The room is great as is the location. Allison was a fascinating individual and her taste was immaculate. The breakfast was also superb. The Tube is a mere 5 minute walk and the Central line will get you into St. Paul's in no time.
I highly recommend this room and especially this host.
This is my first Airbnb review and I need to stress that I normally love BnB's generally and prefer them often to most hotels. I have been going to the same BnB in Hay on Wye for about 15 consecutive years.
My Host did not make me feel welcome. She seemed initially incapable of mustering a smile and this lack continued throughout my stay. She is a prickly character who cannot help condescending to people much clever than she will ever be.
I would strongly recommend you AVOID this B and B. The room pictured looks attractive but fails to show how cold and gloomy it was at night. The bedroom was also cold and had inadequate additional blankets (the heater is entirely blocked by a large dresser) and the walls are paper thin (I could clearly hear my host coughing, as well as street noise). The bedroom is also seriously noisy due to the boiler being located in it which is not enclosed. You will therefore be woken up every time someone turns on the hot water tap. Access to the bedroom is, in any event, severely limited as the staircase is both steep and narrow and the steps are shallow.
The cold in the bedroom is as nothing compared to the toilet/bathroom which is freezing.
The breakfast is meanness actualised. I was not asked if I would like a cooked breakfast. I had to cajole the host into providing a boiled egg (which was done exactly to her liking). Otherwise it was muesli or bran flakes plus dense german bread that was not fresh. You toast it yourself (after switching the toaster back on after it had been switched off after its first use). I was given one mug of coffee. There were no refills. It was like a parody of some Puritan's breakfast. It becomes even more bizarre since if you don't eat something on the first day it is simply removed as an option on the second !
Insult was added to injury since one effectively pays for the host's breakfast; she only likes skimmed milk so that is what you get. When I asked her to get fuller fat milk she came back from the shops in LONDON and with a straight face told me there was no semi-skimmed/full fat milk to be had.
If my schedule in London was not incredibly busy I would have left after my first night.
Finally you need to avoid this BnB because the area is rough and dangerous. I personally witnessed a fight in McDonald at approx 8:10 am on a Sunday morning.
I am very sorry that this guest was so unhappy. He was a nice, shy man and I am sorry it all went so wrong.
I do try to establish good communication with my guests but on this occasion spectacularly failed.
My listing is clear and honest about what is offered, including what’s for breakfast.
Briefly to address the complaints:
The radiator in the bed room is on a thermostat and can be switched up. There are spare duvets and blanket in the room and hot water bottles for the very chilly.
Yes the bathroom is cold, sorry about that, I will try to address the problem.
Its a Victorian cottage with brick walls of construction typical of that period. The stairs are steep.
Yes, the area is scruffy, but not dangerous. There is a police station at end of my street, the streets are well lit and extensively covered by cctv. There is an all night taxi rank at the station if you are nervous and/ or very late home.
I have lived here safely for many years. None of my guests have reported problems.
I love having visitors and hope that all you funny adventurous, interesting airbnb types will not be too put off by this, my first bad review and will read some of the 89 good ones.
Alison darzy swoich gości sporym zaufaniem, dostałem klucze do domu i mogłem wyjść i wrócić o dowolnej porze.
Alison was a fantastic host and made our first Airbnb experience an absolute pleasure! She made us feel welcome right from the outset, and offered the perfect balance of conversation and free space. Her home was beautifully furnished and the room was more than spacious enough for the two nights we spent there. We look forward to staying again next time we find ourselves visiting London!
