We had a lovely stay with Martha, David and her family. Also known as loscaracolesbnb. We stayed 3 nights in Feb2014, they were excellent hosts. They welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like we were part of the family.
The location is perfect for visiting Cancun (it’s only a 10min walk to the ADO bus stop, a large supermarket, with a Subway Sandwich shop, McDonalds very nearby). If you want to get to the beaches/hotel zone, you can take local bus R1 from the ADO bus station (9.50pesos ~ 15mins). In addition the ADO bus station is very convenient for getting about anywhere (as they also have Collectivos (small communal mini-van taxis which can take you to anywhere in Quintana Roo / eg: Collectivo taxi to playa del Carmen is 30pesos per person each way).
We arrived in the night and the only downside was that on Granada road where the B&B is located there was one aggressively barking security dog of anther property which was walking around which made us feel edgey and nervous. So I would recommend if possible getting a taxi ~20pesos from the ADO bus station to the B&B instead of walking at night)
We had a twin bed room on the 1st floor of the B&B. The room was bright, very clean and spacious. It had Free wifi in the house and the room which was very convenient. The air conditioning and fan were both excellent. Plenty of shelves and storage for clothes. The room blinds let in some light so we got woken up pretty early. The mattress were too soft for our liking and we could feel the springs while sleeping. Windows are pretty thin, you can hear the occasional security dogs from the other properties barking at night.
Shared Bathroom was very clean.
Breakfast was awesome! Martha is a wonderful cook and made us an amazing breakfast. Both Marcia and David spent each morning with us when we had breakfast which was great, they have some wonderful stories to tell and together with her son gave us great info about Cancun. We had oat porridge, coffee, tea, pineapple, toast and Martha even made us Vegi tacos which were a delight. It makes a very nice difference to your day when you have a hearty home cooked breakfast in the morning!
On our last day, David also kindly offered to drop us to the ADO station for a token 20pesos.
Great Stay, would recommend :)
Me and my family stayed over christmas with Martha and her family. Even in this time they were very warm and welcoming hosts. There was served delicious Mexican breakfast every morning and they offered great advice about what to see and there to eat in and around cancun. Rooms are clean and nice, and the house it conviniently close to the buses and downtown.
La famille de Martha a été plus que accueillante! Ils sont tous sympathiques et la chambre est simple et propre. Le déjeuner typique mexicain est approprié. Beau séjour! :)
Nice place, very convenient and quiet. Close to bus station and supermarket, 20 minutes to beach by bus. Marta and family were very friendly and helpful, great hosts!
Martha and David were excellent hosts, helpful in telling us about Cancun, and provided a great breakfast.
I stayed with Martha and her family for three nights while visiting Cancun. They were extremely helpful and very easy going. Martha and her family made sure my stay was comfortable and helped me in every way they could. Martha also made breakfast every morning which was lovely of her to do (I had an early start one morning so she packed it for me to go)!!!
The second night I was there Martha had two extra guest staying and we all ended up going out for dinner together which was really nice. Martha really enjoys being a host and having guest over, she's well travelled and has lots of fun stories to tell. I highly recommend staying with her if you visit Cancun.
Martha, David, Ricky and Danny were fantastic hosts! My experience with their family exceeded my every expectation. They are a naturally hospitable family - eager to fulfill any needs that I may have had. I was traveling alone, so it was the most perfect situation...I could spend time with them or I could relax alone in my lovely, cool, clean and comfortable room. Martha arranged my excursions for me which was wonderful because it eased my mind tremendously. Martha is also an amazing cook! I, too, enjoyed the best cuisine at her home that I had during my entire trip! The Ascanio-Anderson family live in a great location downtown - away from the crowded and noisy touristy areas. Their home is just minutes on foot away from a nice grocery store, markets, restaurants, parks and the public bus line which can take you to the beaches or any place you desire to go for a really incredible price. Many times, I walked around their neighborhood and others close by alone and in the evening, and I always felt entirely safe. I would not even consider staying any other place in Cancun when I return. I'm eager to take my family now because the area is so rich with culture and history (and I know they will also love Martha and her family and their lovely home!). Martha is incredibly knowledgeable about her country, and she shared so much of that with me. It is a trip that was transformative for me in many ways...one very important way is the friendship I now have with this special, loving family. I am very grateful for this experience that I will never forget. With my most sincere gratitude, Beth
We stayed with Martha and Dave for a week and had a wonderful experience. To me the most rewarding part of a vacation is cultural exchange and staying with a family is the best way to experience this.
