The loft is located in the cozy artsy hamlet of Chichester. We are less than 2 miles from Sweet Sues, above Chichester Yoga and 15 minutes from both Hunter Mountain and Belleayre. The loft is used by weekenders and retreaters alike.
Take over the loft and go snow boarding or hiking or simply gather with your friends for a weekend of cooking and relaxing. It's sunny, has a new kitchen and bath and has a very homey and warm feeling. All the bedrooms are spacious and private. The smallest bedroom overlooks a water fall which makes up for the size. Across the street are thousands of acres to hike and snow shoe. 15 minutes in either direction you can be at Hunter or Bellarye Mountain. You are also just 18 minutes to Woodstock and 30 to Wyndham.
This is a loft, not a house. The yard and waterfront are for your exclusive use and no other retreats happen during your stay. You are not sharing the loft with any other guests. There are yoga classes on the weekends please see Chichester Yoga's sight for details.
You can eat out of the organic creekside garden in season. The creek is crystal clear in the summer and great for cooling off. In the winter it's a favorite of kids as they explore the ice formations. The creek front is private on both sides and stunning all year. The swimming hole is for your exclusive use.
On the first floor are the best yoga classes around. Megan opened Chichester Yoga in 2006 after traveling around the world teaching and loves being based here.
On Saturdays, the post office is open for 4 hours. It is also on the first floor. (Think country post office, not 42nd street.) But none the less, it's good to know that the building is mixed use. No one however, shares the loft, the entrance or the land.
Chichester is an artists hamlet that is charming and beautiful. If you want to go out locally, Tavern 214 is less than a mile away for dinner or drinks. Peekamoose Tap Room is less than 10 minutes and Sweet Sues, just 2 minutes.
Chichester Yoga, the area's most sought after studio, is on the first floor. You will love not having to get in the car/subway to take class or get a massage.
For those of you without a car, transportation from the bus stop in Phoenicia can be arranged.
Massage for guests staying at the loft is discounted to 90/75 minutes and can be done in your room or in the studio. We are proud to have Hudson Valley's most sought after healers on staff and available for your stay on request.
Real Beds with frames- 1 Queen, 2 Doubles
Mattresses- 1 Queen, 4 Singles
Futon Mattresses- 1 Single, 1 double
Yoga studio on first floor is rated #1 in the Hudson Valley. You can also book massage at the studio or in your room. Hiking across the street on thousands of acres of state land.
15 minutes from Hunter and Belleayre.
Interaction with Guests
Only at check in and check out.
The neighborhood is an artists hamlet. It's a great place to unwind from the city, get rest and still have access to great restaurants in Woodstock. Or the local favorite, Peekamoose.
The bus runs from Grand Central to Phoenicia but a car is recommended for those of you not on retreat.
Other Things to Note
If you are looking for a large space that feels great, this is a terrific option. You never have to get in the car for hiking, yoga, swimming or massage. We cater to groups of up to 15 but recommend 10 max if you want a relaxed feel. We tend to rent to people who are active and like the outdoors. And while the place is in great shape and spotless, with new a new (IKEA) kitchen and bathroom, this is not the The Four Seasons. (which we love too!) Let us know how we can help set up your time here so that you get the best the area has to offer.
32 degrees and below, leave either the kitchen sink or the bathroom sink on at all times.
Put all perishable leftovers in the trash when you leave.
Leave the sheets on the beds and load/run the dishwasher at checkout.
Turn heat down to 65 when you are leaving for the day and to 60 when you check out.
Leave me a note if anything gets broken.
Have a great time!
The loft was super cozy and homey. It was bigger than we expected which was perfect for our group of 9. The loft was very well stocked which made it easier on us. We only had a slight issue with the hot water but Megan was prompt and responsive to the questions I had from the get go until checkout. Each bedroom had it's own quaint style and lots of books for downtime; if our stay was longer, I wouldn't have minded just staying indoors for the day. Definitely have to come back when it's warmer to make use of the backyard and creek !
Megan was very helpful and responsive throughout the booking process; I am very appreciative of her efforts as there was an issue with pricing when we adjusted the number of guests. Megan was also very informative and knowledgeable with regards to the surrounding area to help us get better acquainted. The loft itself is spacious and nice, however there were some issues with cleanliness, notably there were spiders in the shower room (which is actually separate from the toilet/sink) and ladybugs throughout the house, some of the pots and pans were just too old/dirty to be used, and no paper towels or cups were provided (I had texted her about this but did not receive a response). The cleaning fee is $100. She was also very strict with check in/out times which was frustrating - I had asked several times if she could accommodate an earlier check in so that those of us skiing/snowboarding could get in a full day and those of us who were not could settle in and relax. When asked for an explanation she said the turn-around time was too short for her even though there apparently were no guests the night before our stay. This was very frustrating but OK, your house your rules. Overall, what could have turned out to be a nightmare situation during the booking process ended up working out OK but the value was just not there. Also worthy of noting, there is absolutely no cell coverage in the area - even in the town center.
I'm sorry you found the check in and check out times challenging. As I explained to you in response to one of your emails, on single night stays and often on longer bookings, I just can't turn the place around in time. I do also list those times here and that is standard practice for lodging. I'm not sure why you wrote that no one was there before or after you. I was fully booked and I have a schedule in place for a reason. Even still, your guests checked in after 2 so I'm not sure that there was a problem. I'm also not sure what nightmare you're referring to in terms of the booking process. Was it the part when you booked the wrong amount of people and the price went up? I responded in minutes and told you that I would take care of it and I did. In respond to the paper cups-I don't provide them as they are not environmentally friendly. Also, what you failed to mention in your review is that you texted me just minutes before you arrived inquiring about cups. The kitchen is fully stocked with glassware, cloth napkins and dish towels so when I read your text, I assumed you would see that you did not need paper goods. Not to put to fine a point on it, but you need to travel with your own beer pong supplies. You left your funnel by the way. As for the comments about the cookware, the only thing I can think is that you have never seen cast iron as the kitchen was spotless. And yes, in the country there are ladybugs even after a deep clean. You will also find bear, deer, foxes and coyote soon. I am sincerely sorry that you could not get your desires met. That never makes me feel good.
The loft is gorgeous, very spacious, homie et perfect to chill out with some friends. We had a wonderful time. Megan was also very welcoming. We had to change the number of hosts several times and she kindly accepted all of our last minute changes!
My friends and I really appreciated our stay in Catskills and Megan's place is definitely a very warm place to rest.
The space and energy of the apartment are really great.
On top on it, Megan is an incredible host. She gave us directions about the area and numerous very precious advices.
She also was kind enough to welcome us and our 2 years old toddler for an hour of yoga.
Thanks agin Megan.
A group of 6 of us stayed at Megan's loft for a few days around New Year's Day. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the home to friends.
Our interactions with Megan and the house manager, Nicole, were very smooth and prompt and I appreciated their professionalism. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable--providing local tips and being available if necessary. The welcome sheet even offered vegetables from the garden, which we will need to come back for in the summer!
The house was very spacious and our group enjoyed lounging around in the comfy open-plan living area in the evenings, admiring the quirky decor. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and appliances and we had plenty of towels and bedding for everyone. That the single bathroom was split into two rooms (a bath and toilet) helped keep traffic down.
The house was conveniently located to Hunter Mountain (25m) and local towns. We enjoyed walking around the creek in the snow and I'm sure it's fun to swim in during the summer months.
A word of warning: if people in your group wake up at very different times, be prepared to wake up from the floors creaking. There are many rugs to dampen the sound but most of us were still woken up by my dad, whose vacation mornings start at 5 am.
Megan's loft was absolutely wonderful! The space was inviting and had loads of charm. The creek behind the house was so serene and was a sweet backdrop while lounging in the loft. Also, the loft was large enough so that myself and companions could find solitude when we wanted. Megan responded to requests in a timely manner and offered some appreciated suggestions.
It was thee perfect place to relax, rest & recharge.
Thank you Megan for such an amazing place. We had more then enough space to all sit back and relax. The environment in the loft is very comfortable and peaceful.
We had an amazing time hanging out by the waterfall and the area was full of many things to do. We had a great time tubing down the Esopus Creek. Also hiked and relaxed by the Katerskill falls, and spent a little time at Colgate lake.
The pictures just don't do this place justice... Highly recommended :)
We definitely hope to be back some time this winter.
