March 21st Update (please read)
There were a couple complaints recently which I have now addressed. I have repaired the window leak, replaced all the flooring and installed a brand new fireplace. It is now twice as warm even on cold nights.
Nestled in the heart of East London is the lovely Queen Boudicca.
The newly renovated cosy canal boat is warm and welcoming with a brand new beautiful tongue and groove and a highly attractive 1930 multifuel stove keeping her warm in the winter months.
At one end of the boat is a comfortable double bed. Next to the bed is the bathroom with a portable toilet and shower and to the right of this an enclosed fireplace. Please note that the shower is in a small space.
The rear of the boat has a gas hob, mini oven, cupboards and drawers housing all the usual kitchen equipment. Electricity is run off solar panels on the roof. This will power most electrical equipment/gadgets even through those stubborn winter months. Unfortunately this does not include hair dryers or straighteners.
The boat is located in the uber cool East London within a 15 minute walking distance of the overground, 5 minute walk to the beautiful Victoria Park and 5 minutes walk from the eclectic Broadway market. On the weekend this market is a kaleidoscope of tastes and cultures: stalls, shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes offering some of the best food and most original clothing in London all crammed into a little East End street between the Regent’s Canal and London Fields. Please note that the location on Airbnb is not exact, although it will be within a 10 minute walk from here. Feel free to enquire about the exact spot.
But the best way to explore East London is on two wheels. Bike rental for 2 is £10 a day. Save money on transport and visit all the East London attractions within a relaxed 10-15 minute bike ride away, including the London Olympic Park, Victoria Park, Broadway market, London Fields and Brick Lane.
East London is the undeniable heart of London’s trend setting nightlife. Whether you are after the established hotspot of Shoreditch, the new king of cool Dalston or the edgier Clapton and Hackney Wick all are located a quick ten minute bike ride or bus away. Happy to suggest my favourite local spots if looking for some local knowledge.
Electricity, gas and water is included in the price. I will provide the first lot of wood/fuel for the fireplace after which bags of wood can be purchased for £5 each, this will usually last around 2 -3 days.
Wifi is available on the BT (website hidden) charges £5 per day for this.
In terms of location, I am flexible with where you would like the boat to be moored. You are welcome to choose any location between Angel station and Hackney Wick, just let me know!
If you have any more questions, please ask. Or if you prefer a room on land, please check my other listing :)

I had a great couple of days in London on Matts Boat. It's clean and nice. The area at Victoria Park is great for walks and Broadway market is great for food and Pubs. I'd love do do that again in Summer!
Matt provided his assistance with a very detailed and kind email before our departure. The boat was a very adventurous experience (you do not to espect the comfort of an hotel, but it is great as well for sensations seekers) and it is placed in a lovely spot near Victoria park (we suggest you the Pavillion for breakfast) and the Broadway market, not so far from Shoreditch High Street and nice Dalston. The wifi does not work when we were inside, but it was the game for real sailors. matt gave us an account to use the wifi in the whole City abroad. Unluckily the last day the underground Central trains didn't work and this caused our checking-out delay, but the owner was kind as well with us saying goodbye and helping us with our luggages. Goodbye London!
Nice small houseboat. Would book again anytime :)
I had a lot of fun sleeping in Matt's boat. It was a very original accommodation in London. It was very well located on a canal near Victoria Park. The boat is well-equipped, even though you should not expect the comfort of a three-star hotel. Matt was very friendly and helpful. He gave me the opportunity to make a small trip along the canal and we passed locks which was a lot of fun. It was an overall great experience and I highly recommend Matt's boat.
Matt answers always quickly by email and is very kind, but the boat was not moored where it was supposed to be in Shoreditch. I have been advised just the day before. Not so bad, but... I had many problems to unlock the door the first time and it was almost impossible to warm the boat with that small charcoal-burner. It was February and we were freezing under the bedcovers. The shower is very, very, very small. So, if you are a tolerant person and a backpacker kind of traveller like me is fine, but the boat should cost less.
We were quite disappointed Matt's houseboat . ( 212 euros/174£ for two nights , two persons)
Cleaning fee 19€ : Why? The houseboat is dirty , the houses cushions are clean but the sheets are dirty.
Security : Im a houseboat owner so i can explain me about that . bilge pumps are old , wires are stripped, close to the water and diesel at the bottom of the hold. The verter dipped in a puddle caused by a leaking deck to port !!!!
comfort : We know that we are in a boat, this is the game, but no functional fireplace in winter is it a joke ? The pipe had a big hole as the thumb due to rust, I had to repair with aluminum foil to use it without the risk of smoke boat. A cause of the leak of the deck , the bed is wet, you can guess what beautiful nights we spent .
Matt did not present to give us the keys or to retrieve and understandably . A boat is primarily for amateurs owners , we must maintain . before thinking about the rent.
Come on Matt for free on my boat in Paris and You Will learn what is it a security and maintain boat .
Positive note : This little boat is in enssemble while charming even the corner of the channel where it was moored was quiet and close to Spitalfields market .
My final word is just too expensive for what it is , the costs of households and extra person per night is really too much.
Really enjoyed the boat. It's in a great location - and is a really cool address or lack of to return to after a night out. Bathroom isn't really ideal for 2 people as its about 30 cm from the bed. But it is a boat afterall.
Place was clean and the whole thing was very easy and uncomplicated. I was there in Feb. It can get pretty cold on the water especially at night...So be warm and warned...
In warmer times I could not imagine a cooler spot for a solo mission in the city.
I just spent five nights on Matt's canal boat, which is moored just near Kingsland Road. It's in a great neighbourhood, very easy to get to you bus route, or underground. The canal area is kinda on the edge of becoming trendy -- or already is. it's a nice 20-minute walk along the canal to Islington High Street. I wish I'd had more time during the daytime to explore. The boat is (email hidden)r one person. Very comfortable. Lost power but Matt was able to sort it out (solar power on darkened days :). I'd definitely go back in a warmer season to hang around a bit. Matt was very responsive and arranged everything so my arrival after overnight flight was easy. I'd rent it again, perhaps in another neighbourhood but definitely liked this particular mooring near Kingsland road bridge. Gas stove -- coffee/tea anytime. The wood stove heated the place up quickly.
WE LOVED THE BOAT. Sad to leave it. Would definitely stay there again. Despite the fact we were both 6ft, the bed is a good size, shower is a squeeze, but at least there is one. Very romantic, very cosy in winter. Great mooring, in my favourite part of London. Matt was really helpful and quick on the phone when I was a bit confused about the lights. Great stay.
Had a great time , great location
