March 21st Update (please read)
There were a couple complaints recently which I have now addressed. I have repaired the window leak, replaced all the flooring and installed a brand new fireplace. It is now twice as warm even on cold nights.
Nestled in the heart of East London is the lovely Queen Boudicca.
The newly renovated cosy canal boat is warm and welcoming with a brand new beautiful tongue and groove with a lovely multi-fuel wood burning stove keeping her warm in the winter months.
At one end of the boat is a comfortable double bed. Next to the bed is the bathroom with a portable toilet and shower. Please note that the shower is in a small space i.e not ideal for very tall people.
The rear of the boat has a gas hob, mini oven, cupboards and drawers housing all the usual kitchen equipment. Electricity is run off solar panels on the roof. This will power most electrical equipment/gadgets even through those stubborn winter months. Unfortunately this does not include hair dryers or straighteners.
The boat is located in the uber cool East London within a 15 minute walking distance of the overground, close to the beautiful Victoria Park and the eclectic Broadway market. On the weekend this market is a kaleidoscope of tastes and cultures: stalls, shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes offering some of the best food and most original clothing in London all crammed into a little East End street Please note that the location on Airbnb is not exact, although it will be within a 15 minute walk from here. Feel free to enquire about the exact spot.
East London is the undeniable heart of London’s trend setting nightlife. Whether you are after the established hotspot of Shoreditch, the new king of cool Dalston or the edgier Clapton and Hackney Wick all are located a quick ten minute bike ride or bus away. Happy to suggest my favourite local spots if looking for some local knowledge.
Electricity, gas and water is included in the price. I will provide the first lot of wood/fuel for the fireplace after which bags of wood can be purchased for £5 each, this will usually last around 2 -3 days.
Wifi is available on the BT (website hidden) charges £5 per day for this.
In terms of location, I am flexible with where you would like the boat to be moored. You are welcome to choose any location between Angel station and Hackney Wick, just let me know!
If you have any more questions, please ask. Or if you prefer a room on land, please check my other listing :)
Staying for 5 days on Matt’s beautiful Queen Boudicca has been a wonderful experience. It was moored in the Regents Canal in the beautiful Victoria Park, really close to Bethnal Green underground station, a very interesting area. It is peaceful but not isolated or even quiet – the place is full of runners, people walking their dogs, mothers with children in strollers, et cetera. And plenty of people living on all the narrow boats along the canal.
Staying on the boat itself is great. The only thing that didn’t work so well on the boat was the BT internet connection but there are plenty of cool cafés and taverns in the neighbourhood with free WIFI so this wasn’t really a problem for me. Other than that: the heating, the cooktop, the shower with warm water – everything worked well. You can get the boat nicely warm on a cold morning or night – when I came here last week, winter announced itself so I was very glad about this.
Matt has been very helpful, always replied immediately when I had a question. I would recommend staying on his boat to all people who are not looking for great luxury or 5 star hotel comfort but rather for an alternative, more adventurous, and meaningful experience. I myself will definitely want to come back here.
Lovely time on Matt's boat. Moored in an ideal spot close to Islington, lively high street with great public transport.
We had a wonderful time on the "Queen Boudicca", Matt's lovely little houseboat.
The boat was moored near Angel station, which was a very convenient and interesting location. Great to get to City in no time or to Camden Town. Also, Shoreditch is in walking distance. The boat was a peaceful and homey oasis in the center of London!
It's more like a camping experience of course, but that's what makes it so special and comfortable. Also, you have running water and a sink right next to your bed (a real bed), so it's actually better than camping. The boat was warm, very clean. Everything was dry and tidy. Matt had placed fresh flowers on the table, which looked lovely and made the place a home.
Matt was also very friendly with directing us to the right place and helping us out with all our questions. He took care of everything very nicely and reliably. The correspondece was fast and easy and everything worked out perfectly fine! Would definitely go there again!
Thanks for everything! We loved the boat!
Expérience originale. Très roots. Trop.
The Queen Boudicca is an interesting place to stay in London. It was moored on a lovely quiet canal, which was also super central and close to everywhere we wanted to go. The photos are definitely painting a very rosy picture of the space but overall we enjoyed our stay. It is a bit like camping in the city. It was a nice peaceful place to return to at the end of the day. The shower and toilet are the tiniest I have ever come across and there is no privacy so you really have to be comfortable with whoever you are sharing the space with, but for me it wasn't a problem.
The canal boat was a unique way to see London from a different perspective, the area is lovely and close to the train station. The only aspect which may affect tall travelers is the roof of the boat is very low so if you are over 5"5 you may hit your head, we are luckily short so it made no difference to us.
Matt was really helpful and friendly before I headed to London and gave good instructions of how to find the boat. It's obviously a very different experience to staying in a hotel but all the more special for it. The boat was moored on a fairly busy section of canal so it was noisy at times, however I also found it to be friendly and I felt safe (I stayed alone with my baby). The toilet and shower are basic, it felt a bit like posh camping. It was wonderful sitting on the end of the boat in the evening, just enjoying the atmosphere, I'd happily go back!
