Interaction with Guests
I try to be available when you need me, and invisible when you don't.
I'm happy to give recommendations for places to visit and local restaurants. You'll get detailed directions prior to your trip, and you can check in and check out by yourself so you won't need to wait for me.
Living spaces in Hong Kong are compact, so get out and explore the bustling area.
Causeway Bay and Wanchai are the heart of Hong Kong's consumer culture. Every square inch is filled with shopping malls, department stores, boutiques, market stalls, hole in the wall cafés, international restaurants and banquet halls.
Within walking distance of the apartment, you'll find almost every type of cuisine on the planet as well as the HK must try's: dim sum, roast meats, noodles and congee, cha chan teng (a unique fusion of Chinese/Western food), and snacks and desserts.
If shopping is your thing, you'll find the whole range: From bargains and nicknacks at the Jardine's Crescent street market and Spring Garden Lane, to affordable youth fashion boutiques in Island Beverly Centre, to the tech heaven of the Wanchai Computer Centre, to mid-priced and luxury goods in SOGO and Hysan Place, to the up market fashions found in Lee Gardens, Times Square and Fashion Walk.
You are also right next to Happy Valley, where you can enjoy a beer and watch a horse race on most Wednesdays.
Terrific beaches, museums, galleries and sights are all easily accessible. Hong Kong's best kept secret is the wonderful hiking and nature just minutes from the city. There are a couple hikes that you can start from the apartment.
It couldn't be easier to get to the apartment from the airport. The A11 bus picks you up at the airport and drops you off just downstairs from the apartment, and gives you great views of the city as you come into town. You can also get to the apartment by Airport Express (high speed train) and taxi.
The apartment is just a 3 minute walk from Wanchai MTR station (our subway system) and is serviced by Hong Kong's classic tramways and many bus lines. The famous Star Ferry is also just a short walk away.
Here are some distances to common places:

I couldn't have been happier with Alex's Cozy Studio with Balcony in Wan Chai! Alex was an excellent host, not that we ever met, but communication was always quick, easy and thorough.
I spent a lot more time in the apartment than I'd planned to as I arrived feeling quite ill and hardly left the bed until the afternoon of my second day there, so I can definitely vouch for it's coziness :-) I was a little worried about the street noise when I first arrived at night, as I have to have a window open, but then I found the earplugs Alex had thoughtfully provided (if you need darkness to sleep I suggest you bring an eye mask too - lucky I always travel with one). But the central location is a blessing for everything else - location, location, location!
Alex's detailed instructions for everything, from how to get there from the airport to recommended eating places, etc. were very much appreciated. He even offered to help me find a doctor, but I managed to track one down myself.
Next time I'm in Hong Kong I won't be looking any further than Alex's apartment for my accommodation.
Wonderful stay in Alex's cozy studio. While we never met, check-in and check-out instructions were clearly communicated. Location was great, especially for those arriving on the airport bus.
We are glad to have decided to stay at this cozy studio in the heart of Hong Kong! Alex was very helpful in providing directions as well as recommendations for places to dine! There are plenty of restaurants nearby, a few Michelin recognized too! The walk to the subway station is less than 10 minutes. Will definitely book again for our return trip!
This is a tiny apartment with an excellent location. The directions and information provided by Alex prior to arrival were excellent. I had no trouble finding the place despite never having been in Hong Kong before. The apartment is up a narrow set of stairs in between shops in a busy shopping area. There is view to speak of from the window/balcony (just facing another apartment building).
While perfectly clean and acceptable for a person visiting Hong Kong, it would be uncomfortable for more than one person. Two would be tough and two plus a child would be almost impossible. It is more of a private room than an "apartment." However, please note that this is not really a negative. If you're on your own and want to explore the city, this is a great base. The place has a bed, air conditioning, a small dorm refrigerator, a water kettle for your own instant coffee or tea, and even a TV to stare at after your day of exploring this beautiful city.
The room is about a 5-10 minute walk from Wan Chai MTR station. However, I had no trouble walking to Central, even in the summer heat. It also is conveniently located for walking to the Star Ferry for a wonderful ride over to Kowloon.
There is a small laundry shop across the street and one block over that does laundry fairly cheap.
All in all, I have no complaints. You just must realize the place is really tiny - about the size of a large walk-in closet. But, if you're traveling alone, you'll love it. Alex was a great host and the complimentary cold beer and soft drinks he stocked in the fridge were a welcome amenity after a long day of walking in the summer heat. Thank you!
The location is near Wan Chai MTR and everything is as stated in the picture. The place is small but tidy and the aircon is not noisy. Just nice for a single traveller to be comfortable.
Alex provided perfect and thorough directions and instructions for his place. It was as described, cozy and convenient. I enjoyed his hospitality. Would definitely recommend.
Alex's place was the perfect landing pad for exploring Hong Kong - the location was perfect and the rooms super comfortable. Great value for money and Alex was a kind, low-key host - I booked at the last minute but my stay was super easy and smooth!

About the Host, Alex
I'm from North Carolina, but I've lived in Hong Kong for 11 years.
I love living in and travelling across Asia. You'll usually see me with camera in hand trying to blend in with the local culture, which is difficult for a tall white guy.
But, whether I'm treking across a desert or window shopping on high streets, I always love to meet other like minded free spirits.
My wife and I have really enjoyed preparing our place to be ready for guests. We hope you enjoy it. Please let me know if there is anything special I can prepare for your trip. :-)
As a host, I'll try my best to point out the colorful local scene, and as a guest, I'll I try to leave nothing but good memories.
