FRIENDLY BRAZILIAN FAMILY AS HOSTS
(Thiago is English speaking)
This bed and breakfast boasts the BEST VIEW in Copacabana. Look at the pictures, you can see! The sunrise, and the sunset from the terrace are simply spectacular.
Situated on the hill behind Leme, Copacabana this family home has 2 Bed and Breakfast bedrooms which share a shower room and WC to rent.
Babilonia is a neighbourhood of Copacabana which sits neatly on the hill behind the Leme end of the beach. You can access by taxi, or you can walk there. The area is safe, friendly and open for tourists to explore. Some of the coolest grafitti in Rio can be seen on the walls here.
The small Copacabana community of Babilonia has approx 5000 residents and was "pacified" in 2009. It is now an up an coming neighbourhood in itself. It is a 10 minute walk to the beach from the house. In the neighbourhood there are schools, banks (Bradesco & Itau), shops, bars, hostels, small hotels, and a great community spirit.
This accommodate is perfect for travelers who wish to experience Rio with a real Brazilian family.
During Carnaval and New Year - we are ideally looking to accept bookings for 7 days or more - minimum period.
A double bedroom with a shared bathroom (the bathroom is shared between 2 guest rooms, and is cleaned daily). Guests are also welcome to make use of the 2 rooftop terraces which are common areas for the 6 guest rooms
Interaction with Guests
Thiago is English speaking, and happy to help visitors orientate themselves in Rio. The family are welcoming and look forward to interact with guests as little or as much as they wish.
Babilonia is a small favela on the hill at the Leme end of Copacabana beach. The area has a safe and friendly atmosphere, with children playing in the streets, visitors are welcome to explore here. We know most of our neighbours and my family has been living here for generations. Please come visit and enjoy the community spirit and the amazing views to Copacabana and even to Cristo.
Moto-taxi (which costs R$3.00), taxis, bus and the closest metro station is Cardeal Arcoverde.
To travel from the airport to Copacabana I suggest you take the yellow cabs outside the airport - this should cost approx R$70 and the 20km journey usually takes 25mins depending on the traffic.
There are also regular buses, and express buses to Zona Sul from outside the airport.

Un lugar fantastico y privilegiado, donde hemos disfrutado, aprendido, conocido y divertido todo gracias a Thiago y su hermosa familia!
Really nice place few minutes from Copacabana, view from terrace was amazing (very tasty breakfast and great relax with billiard above Copacabana), location looks safe. We recommand this place to every other travellers.
We had a great experience staying at Thiago's place. Its a bit of a steep climb to the building, but its well worth it for the amazing view of the shoreline and city below that you will have while eating breakfast. The room was simple but clean and Thiago and his family were very welcoming and easy going. Highly recommended if you are looking for something a bit different than the norm
Amazing view, amazing breakfast. Very clean. Although I didn't spend much time with the host, but they are very nice people!! Very considerate. Great for experience in the favela.
Vera and Thiago are very warm and welcoming. They will provide you with all necessary information. Favela Babilonia is a save place to stay, we have only met friendly people. The place is a 12 min. walk to the beach and has a marvellous view. Breakfast is simple but very complete. We loved out two (!) week stay!
1st of all, as security in a "favela" was the biggest issue to my girlfriend, I can tell, as well as a hundred comments before me, that babilonia is very safe. Probably more safe than most spots of Rio, as there were policemen at the entrance, the top, the animated intersection before switching to Thiago's house, and patroling around. That said, everybody around was nice, polite, helpful, smiling to us, even more (if possible) than in the rest of Rio. We were helped by the people to find the hostel, at the second our taxi arrived at the bottom of Babilonia, like in a nice village where everybody knows everybody..
The Hostel and rooms was exactly as described, clean, recent or renewed, only mattress was a little "cheap" style... not much more to complain. On the other hand, you can watch the Corcovado's lights while taking a shower, and check Copacabana's waves during breakfast..
And last but not least, Thiago and dona Vera were very very pleasant and helpful. I can only regret I didn't spend more time around to get to know more about Thiago and his lifestyle, share a churrasco and beer on the terrace, etc ...
Good to know for some, the hostel is on the top of 15 minutes hill walk, unless you try a R$ 3 mototaxi of course.. better not forget your swimsuit as I did once, because copacabana's sea is irresistible..
Obrigado Thiago e ate logo

Wow, Thiago's place is simply beautiful. The views are as he says...amazing. My daughter and I could have stayed here much longer, we felt so at home. We had the chance to meet other people who were also staying here as there are quite a few rooms. It never feels crowded though, there is so much space. Thiago's mother Vera has been the most welcoming and wonderful hostess and Thiago is very charming. The are is right by the sea and really gives a brilliant flavour of Rio. I highly recommend this place, we will certainly be returning!
