I stayed two nights in the hotel. The room was ok (had TV, clean sheets), but don't expect something fancy. There is no real shower it is the entire bathroom that serves as a shower, so it can get pretty humid. Also it is a bit noisy at night. I wasn't here to spend time in the room so I didn't mind all that as long as I had a bed and a nice location ! The location is indeed perfect, I could go run in the morning around the lake, enjoy the markets, the old quarter and cool bars in the neighborhood.
Maybe the only experience I didn't really like is that one of the man who's taking care of the hotel suggested to drive me to a museum on his motorbike and asked me way more than what it should have costed for the drive. It's a bit disappointing : as a manager I thought he would have provided good advise and would have made sure I was paying a fair price.
But besides that, I had a nice stay.
Anh Son let us check in early, which was great considering we'd been on a bus all night. We didn't have much contact with him after that, but we didn't need anything either. He gave us a choice between two rooms. We chose the lovely room on the fifth floor (the only room on that floor). It was very comfortable and homey, especially considering the price. It had a wardrobe, a little desk, and lovely balcony. The bathroom is separate from the room, but we had it all to ourselves. The hot water on that floor doesn't work well, but we were offered the bathroom on the next floor down if we wanted to shower. The hostel is tucked into a little street near St Joseph's Cathedral, and you can hear its bells from the room. We loved it. Great location in the old quarter, making for easy walking to restaurants, etc. (There's a killer restaurant on the corner at the intersection where the church sits--it's called Com Vietnam. Super reasonably priced and awesome food!) It was a great place to kick back and relax for a few days.
Pros: Host arranged for airport pickup, upgraded us to a larger room and was very kind in offering to help us make any travel arrangements (this was our last stop in Vietnam so we didn't need any). The bed was comfortable and the room we were in was large. There were only 1-2 other guests when we stayed so we had no problems with noisy people. The location is convenient for exploring Hanoi.
Cons: Rooms need some updating/renovating...Our walls were dirty and full of holes (spackle is cheap/easy), and our bathroom door locked when we closed it and we had to call for help. They knocked in a panel and unlocked it; you could tell they had done it before as the wood was damaged. The pipes (?) were very noisy all day/night making irregular noise. With some fix ups like those listed here, would recommend this place to other travelers.
Met and exceeded expectations. Clean, well-maintained room and friendly, accommodating hosts. I will recommend to any friend visiting Hanoi.
Only stayed here one night but it was lovely. Staff was nice and helpful, and we booked our Halong Bay Cruise for the next day pretty cheap through them. We were also given complimentary waters and all the bananas we could eat.
The room was huge! Also very nice, upscale and clean. Just beware, it's up quite a few flights of stairs.
The location is also great! Right on the edge of the old quarter and close to the lake and lots of yummy restaurants and cafés.
This was a very nice place. I had a top floor room with a balcony overlooking the small street that it is on. You are right next to the cathedral and so can hear the bells, which I loved. It's in a quiet backstreet so is a very welcome retreat from the Hanoi madness, but totally central. Anh was very welcoming, I would definitely stay here again.
Accueil très sympathique, on est venu me chercher. La chambre ne correspond pas au descriptif, et de qualité passable. La gentillesse et les ressources de Che et Augusto compensent un logement tout juste passable.
