Our apartment is part of a fascinating old red brick brewery complex built in 1862. It's an amazing oasis in the middle of an old industrial/brewery area which is now mainly occupied by architects, art galleries, graphic studios and fashion outlets. Although only minutes from vibrant Smith, Gertrude and Brunswick Sts all with their funky shopping, art, food and fashion, the area is surprisingly peaceful.
We occupy the lower three floors of the old hop drying tower located at the far end of a lovely leafy private lane. You have your own ground floor consisting of lounge/dining/bedroom/ study/kitchenette/bathroom.Your bedroom contains a super comfortable queen bed, WiFi, TV and small sitting area overlooking a leafy internal light well. Fans for summer, heater and electric blanket for winter. There's a separate office space off the bedroom with a desk, a collection of books and (old) iMac you are very welcome to use. It also has its own private door onto one of Collingwood's funky graffiti covered lanes. The extra room would be very useful if you need to do work. There is also a full sized single bed on the mezzanine level in the office (there is no door between the rooms but the beds are well out of sight). You have your own, private bathroom with toilet, basin and shower at the other end of the gallery. There's a small refrigerator, kettle, microwave, toaster, tea/coffee & breakfast cereals, milk, spreads etc. in the office. You can use our kitchen upstairs to prepare meals and may like to have breakfast on the terrace. We are happy to run a load of washing for you if required.
A supermarket, bottle shop and all manner of fascinating shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants are just around the corner. The city is a 10 min tram ride ( we have Myki cards available) or leisurely 20 minute walk through the magnificent Fitzroy and Treasury gardens or via Gertrude St and the Carlton gardens which house the Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum. The MCG and Tennis Stadiums are an easy walk as are many hospitals (St Vincents, Freemasons, Epworth, Eye & Ear) and universities (Melbourne Uni, RMIT, ACU). A Lovely walk through East Melbourne takes you to the Bridge Rd fashion outlets. Amazingly, the bushland of Yarra bend national park is just 20 minutes walk the other way. Check out our Guidebook on the airbnb web site!
It's very easy to get here. Southern Cross Station and the Airport Express Terminal are a 15 min direct tram plus 5 min walk. We are easily accessed by car from the Eastern or Monash Freeways and can provide a visitor's parking permit.
Mercedes and I would really love you to stay when you visit Melbourne and would be very happy to give local advice and any assistance to make the most of your visit.
Well located to Fitzroy main drag and walking distance to the CBD. Clean, quiet and comfortable. We had a whole floor to ourselves, own bathroom, fridge and our own private entry/exit. Charming hosts with good tips in Fitzroy for cafes and bars. Provided us with MyKi cards which made public transport easy.
Everything about this apartment is just wonderful - it's in a great location surrounded by interesting galleries and cafés, and close by to everything you need; it is spacious and comfortable with a beautiful ambience created by the many artworks, books and interesting objects; and Paul and Mercedes are fantastic hosts, warm and generous and happy to share their local knowledge to ensure you have the best visit to Melbourne possible. Highly recommended!
We stayed two nights at this unique spot in Melbourne. Collingwood/Fitzroy is a great neighbourhood with nice shops and cute streets. Paul and Mercedes made us feel like home. We came in late and still they took the time to have drinks with us and give us all the information about the must sees in the neighbourhood. The room is big and neat and a cool place when its hot outside. We enjoyed it very much!
What a unique spot! We lucked out to stay here during the White Night festivities in Melbourne. We barely met Mercedes but she seemed great, and Paul was super helpful, interesting and fun to chat with. It is a relatively central location, a sort of odd but lovely guest space in the lower level of their intriguing loft. It was worth it to stay here just to admire the building's history. Highly recommended.
Paul and Mercedes are very trusting and welcoming people and live at the most perfect spot near funky Fitzroy. Loved being able to walk everywhere by foot and felt at home at their place immediately. We were invited into their life, but could also keep to ourselves. Miss my little Melbourne life already! Thanks for the gluten free bread!
This was my first time using Air B&B, and I couldn't imagine anything better. Paul and Mercedes are incredible hosts. Super helpful and interesting, but also give plenty of space to explore on your own. Their space is amazing!! Beautiful and unique and wonderfully private. Really enjoyed my experience and would absolutely stay their again!!
The Distillery is perfect. Room is very comfortable and has everything you need and location could not be better. Close to some of Melbournes best cafes, restaurants, and bespoke shopping. Best of all Paul and Mercedes are wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home instantly. With your own private entry you can be completely independent but have all the warm friendly help from your hosts. We are big fans of Lemon, Middle and Orange... What a gem of a cafe right on your doorstep! Don't miss this. Loved our stay, will definitely be back.
Paul and Mercedes were great hosts. The accomodation was beautiful and very central. They were flexible with arrangments which was much appreciated. Paul provided us with local information re sites, places to eat etc. They also helped with calling us a taxi at the end of our stay. Highly reommend
A unique and beautiful brewery conversion in one of my favourite parts of Melbourne, industrial Collingwood. Guests stay in a comfortable, well-furnished 'studio flat' on the ground floor, which has its own separate entrance and access to the main house.
Paul was a welcoming and friendly host (Mercedes was away when I visited) and made useful recommendations for places to visit nearby.
The nearest tram stop is about 5 minutes' walk; so too are the many restaurants, cafes and shops of Gertrude Street and Smith Street. It's a 10-minute tram ride into town, or about a 20-minute walk.
We had a great time staying in Paul and Mercedes' place. Paul was very welcoming and helpful. He provided us with maps and useful information on places nearby. The place we stayed at is an old wine distillery redesigned nicely into a 3-story apartment. We had the whole ground floor to ourselves. It included a bedroom with a kitchenette, a spacious living area and a bathroom. The location is very central and very close to all the fun areas with shops, restaurants, parks and Melbourne Museum. When we go back to Melbourne we will be happy to stay with Paul and Mercedes again.
