About This Listing
The 'Treehouse' is a small, charming, rustic, 2 story house on stilts. Air conditioning. Woodstove in winter: Firewood provided. Each floor is 12 ft x 12 ft. Downstairs there is a queen sized futon bed, and a small kitchen (with refridgerator, toaster oven, and hotplate, and basic kitchen supplies including spices, tea and coffee), and a table. The upstairs is accessible by a steep staircase. It has a queen-sized bed, a dresser and a desk.
There is a wrap-around porch with a couch and a great view of the creek, and the surrounding greenery. The half bathroom is located in an enclosed room on the porch (toilet and sink.) The hot, private OUTDOOR shower is adjacent on the porch. Unusual! And yes, we do have guests in the winter!
We are located 1 mile from the downtown mall in Charlottesville, which is full of delicious restaurants and entertainment. There are also several good restaurants a few blocks away. The Treehouse is across the street from a lovely riverside trail: great place to walk dogs, bike and stroll. A creek, black walnut tree with a swing, vegetable garden and 3 free-range chickens are in the large yard. (Sweet chickens sleep under the Treehouse in their coop.) Onesty Family Water park is 2 blocks away with a lazy river, slides, lap lanes at certain hours, and obstacle courses. ACAC gym is 1 mile away with excercise classes, warm water salt pools, jacuzzi, sauna and a rooftop deck.
Downstairs is cozy with the wood stove and a window A/C unit which cools the place down quickly in summer. The upstairs does not cool down as well due to the vaulted ceiling, but there is a ceiling fan and there are windows on all four walls to allow cross ventilation.
Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is 10 minutes away, and many fabulous restaurants are in walking distance (10 minute walk.) Access to the lovely Riverside Trail is just across the street. Great place to walk dogs, bike and stroll.
Small 'Big Green Egg' grill on porch, on bus line, WiFi.
No extra charge if extra guests are children.
Two night minimum preferred.
Would you like to participate in our "Treehouse for Charity" program? This is how it works: We will donate $50 from the money you have already paid for your reservation to a charity. You choose from one of the three charities listed in the Treehouse. The current charities are the SPCA (Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals), Amnesty International, or a local Urban Agriculture Collective, a non-profit that brings organic gardens to the community. If you prefer to write a check directly to one of these charities, we can refund you the $50 and you can get the tax deduction. We hope that you will participate in this program. It is of no extra cost to you, and we can work together to help out some of our less fortunate creatures on this earth. The charity folder is in the Treehouse.
Other Things to Note
There is plenty of street parking. If the grass is dry and no rain is expected, you can park at the foot of the Treehouse by the steps. Please DO NOT park on the grass driveway alongside the creek, as this is our neighbors active driveway. Thanks.
Very nice! Leora is very hospitable and communicates quickly and easily.
The treehouse itself is pretty awesome: an efficient room downstairs with a small kitchen area, sitting area, and bed, and a second story room with another bed and a desk. The inside, though, is really just for living; you'll spend most of your time outside on the raised and cover deck with a sofa, chairs, and table. Oh, and the shower is out of doors as well. This is really nice and liberating in the spring/summer (it's April right now), and it does have hot water, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much in January.
The bottom line is that it's a super great place to stay and enjoy the season. There's a huge tree close by, a small spring on the property boundary, and downtown is a 20 minute walk.
Leora gave us all the information we needed right away and was responsive. The place is very cute, really clean and has everything we needed (pots, pans, basic spices, etc). Unfortunately we only had about 15 hours there but really wished we could have stayed longer. I especially liked the wood stove, deck and outdoor shower. We hope to stay there again!
Leora was very communicative and friendly leading up to our stay. We didn't have the chance to meet her but we could tell we'd love her place based on her energy during booking, and we did! The treehouse was perfect for us, cute, unique, comfortable and relaxing overlooking the creek on the big porch. It was perfectly located near downtown, Monticello and a lot of great restaurants. We won't stay anywhere else next time we come to Cville!
