Good flat close to Central Kreuzberg and the canal. A great base for Berlin with transport near by. Check in and out was so easy and convenient.
Bit noisy at night but other than that a perfect place.
The apartment, while well located and convenient for going out in Kreuzberg, left much to be desired. Previous reviews have described it as spartanly-bare, which is certainly the case. The pictures, though in the broadest sense, show a warmth that is not actually present.
I didn't have any interaction with Frank, the owner, having been directed to liaise with Kim - his property manager. The keys were left in a lockbox outside, which was very convenient.
The only major downside to the flat was the bedding, which smelled of body odour and general uncleanliness. Luckily, once this was pointed out, Kim promptly directed me to new sheets in the chest drawers.
Overall this apartment was fine. It is pretty basic.
Mainly, I was upset that the listing said it included Air Conditioning as this was a requirement for me before booking. It did not have AC. When I asked for a fan, it came the next day.
Kreuzberg is a good, up-and-coming location and while this apartment is in walking distance to a couple of bars, you need to be a bit more local to know exactly what bars to go to.
Berlin is a pretty spread out city so be prepared to take cabs or, as the locals do, take the U-Bahn and Bus everywhere.
From a host perspective, the managing agent (not Frank) is quite responsive but did not meet me for check-in. This was all done via a lockbox outside the apartment.
We emailed with Kim to organize how to get the keys. She was very helpful in giving us directions to the flat from the main train station.
The flat itself has great natural light and is cozy and clean. They had left a blown up balloon in the flat for my just turned 4-year-old son, which delighted him to no end. We appreciated the kind gesture.
The morning after our arrival, we discovered that the hair dryer didn't work. However, I contacted Kim and she and Frank arranged a time to get us a new one. Frank also brought us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience, which was a thoughtful thing to do.
If you are sensitive to noise at night be sure to bring ear plugs. The flat faces a major street that has quite a bit of traffic noise. The noise lessens from about 10 PM - 6 AM.
The flat has several basic amenities. I do, however, wish that a few other amenities were in the flat. There was no sugar in the kitchen and no paper towels or napkins. One dish towel was provided.
With a few basic amenities added to the kitchen and perhaps blackout curtains for the windows, which might help with the light/traffic sounds issues, this flat would be delightful.
Great place to stay. Frank's friend, Kim, was able to answer all our questions about the neighbourhood and getting around in Berlin. The place is a tidy, basic apartment and Frank can easily arrange extra mattresses for other guests. The WiFi is a little temperamental, and the bathroom doesn't have amazing ventilation. But a great place to base yourself and discover Berlin. Heaps of cool little bars around Kreuzberg, and close to busses and trains to access the rest of the city. Thanks, Frank! Would definitely stay again.
We emailed back and forth with Kim, an assistant. The communication was quick and thorough. Nice place pretty close to a couple buses. It is a little bright and has road noise, so if you're a light sleeper you may wish to bring eye covers or head phones. Overall a nice place and worth the stay.

About the Host, Frank
I am Frank and live in lovely Kreuzberg (Berlin) for a year now. Despite born in Berlin I traveled and worked in other cities in the last 9 years.
Working for a music company and living in this music city makes me incredible happy.
Renting my space sometimes for other Berlin lovers is a great opportunity to get to know people and share the Berlin feeling.
Bye, see you soon
