Riad Essaadaqa (Riad Friendship, in English) is tucked away in a quiet residential neighbourhood but still minutes away from the life of the souks, the vibrant Jema El Fna square and important monuments and attractions.
The Riad has three floors plus the terrace. The ground floor has a small lounge area around the courtyard and one double bedroom with private bathroom as well as a public WC. The middle floors has the remaining three bedrooms (only one without private bathroom) a storage room and one public WC. The third floor is where you will find the kitchen, living room and one public complete bathroom for usage of the guests. The terrace disposes of tables and chairs for breakfast and other meals, a lounge shaded area and chaises-longue for sunbathing. In winter, the central opening (typical feature of Moroccan Riads) is covered to protect from rain and cold.
The decoration is a concentrate of different Moroccan crafts and cultural activities, mixing colours, techniques and materials. Guests should expect clean, comfortable, simple accommodation and a quiet environment. Breakfast is included in the price and is served where the guest desires.
At the entrance of the neighbourhood there are groceries shops for immediate needs. At the spice’s square nearby there are several small cafés and restaurants and more dining options are available at the Jema El Fna square which is within 10min walking distance. The neighbourhood is a good starting point to explore the souks, visit the Madrasa Ben Youssef, Museum of Marrakech, Qoubba Almoravid and Photography Museum. Other attractions like Museum Dar Si Said, Bahia Palace and Badii Palace are also within walking distance.
To move around Marrakech, the Jema el Fna Square is the best place to get a taxi or take a city bus as well as to park your car (several car parking facilities nearby).
We are able to organize day excursions to nearby places like the Ourika Valley, Ouzoud waterfalls and Essaouira and also longer ones to the Desert (Zagora or Merzouga).
Both Jawad and his riad are great!
This was an amazing stay! The location of the riad is wonderful, right in the centre in the middle of the biggest market, but far enough to be peaceful, safe and quiet! The room is beautiful, the host, Jawad a super sweet and helpful guy. He helped us with everything, arranged stuff for us and always suggested more things to do. Amina makes the best breakfast on the terrace! All in all great! I would recommend it to everyone who's looking for an great authentic stay, not a 5 star hotel.
Super Riad, idéalement placé à côté de la place Jemaa El Fna, et en plein coeur des souks.
Jawad est un hôte remarquable, disponible et toujours prêt à vous donner les meilleurs conseils.
Je recommande vivement !
We stayed at this Riad in December 2013 and can highly recommend it, mainly because of the location and authentic atmosphere.
The location is very central, walking distance to main attractions in Medina. The Riad is - as all other riads - very difficult to find the first time (a good advice would be to arrange a airport pick up with Jawad).
The house is beautifully decorated and renovated in old Moroccan style. The rooms and bathrooms are large and comfortable. Note that there is no wifi and for winter travellers please note that there is no heating. Breakfast at the top floor terrace is fantastic.
Jawad is a very welcoming host and despite being awfully busy always able and willing to help and reachable. Jawad probably won't be around a lot but Amina would be around to make breakfast, clean and eventually cook a dinner for you (that has to be ordered). Amina is helpful and her light spirit in the morning gives a good start of the day. Both Jawad and Amina are to be fully trusted, fortunately when Marrakech seems from the first view to be a chaotic mix of unreliable tourist traps.
Had a great stay in the Riad. Jawad was a very considerate and attentive host and helped us get a rental car and transport from the airport.
The rooms are charming and the whole place is very thoughtfully decorated. Breakfast on the roof terrace is unmissable and a quiet spot to get away from the intensity of the streets.
We booked the white room for 5 nights, although we spent one night in the Sahara desert. At the airport we got a taxi to the Djema El Fna square. There we got picked up by a friend of Jamal with a wheelbarrow for our luggage. Which was nice because the riad is hard to find the first time (and the second). The locals know the adress as, Derb Aarjane, instead of Derb Tarjane. Jawad was a friendly host. His cousin and Amina were very helpful when needed.
The rooms here really are as beautiful as they look in the photos, and the entire riad is covered with lovely little decorative touches. Everything was clean, bright, colourful and cool. No matter the temperature outside, inside always felt incredible pleasant. We had breakfast on the terrace twice which not only felt like we had a private chef cooking for us in our own little castle, but was probably the best-value breakfast of our trip! Highly recommended (but bring your sunglasses!) and just made for the perfect start to the day.
Jawad is very helpful and promised that he would be available day and night for whatever we needed. Luckily we didn't need to call him but he always found us in the square and pointed us in the right direction. He offers recommendations for tours outside of Marrakech, although we didn't take any.
Be warned: although security appears good (the front door is heavy-duty as anything), the doors to the individual rooms don't close properly. We stayed in both the pink and white rooms and in both cases, the doors (lightweight double doors) didn't have handles, so we had to scrabble with our fingernails to pull them closed, and although there were slide bolts at the top and bottom, they didn't work, so there was no way of securing them whilst inside (you can lock them with an external padlocked slide-bolt when you leave, if you wish). In the pink room, the window shutters didn't close properly either. To be fair, the doors never popped open but I never felt entirely relaxed because I feared that they could at any moment, and they were only ever "pulled to". Although I never felt that my belongings were in any danger, I was certainly aware that privacy was at a strict minimum. Another thing to note is that they don't provide hand-soap, so be sure to bring your own.
That being said, I loved this place, mostly because it was in the heart of action (you have to walk through the souks to reach it), yet removed enough to be quiet and really feel as if we were living with the locals. So much so that the boys playing football down the alleyways would frequently tell us "it's closed!" when we walked back there and we'd have to explain that we were staying nearby. If I return to Morocco (and I hope that I shall!) then I will be contacting Jawad straight away to stay at this riad. If they can find a way of properly closing the bedroom doors then it would be absolutely perfect.
This is a charming traditionally-decorated riad located just outside of the souk semmarine. Most of the rooms have been retro-fitted with private bathrooms, which is great. There is no wifi or internet access (though that is available at internet cafes that are within 5 minutes of the riad). That wasn't an issue for us, but might be for others.
Jawad is a great host! Very friendly and full of great suggestions. He was so easy to communicate with from the get-go. Jawad and his team go out of their way to make sure you're taken care of.
I can't even begin to find the right words to express how happy we were that we booked this riad for our stay. Jawad was simply amazing and truly looked after us not only in a very professional manner, but as if we had known each other for a long time. The riad is very clean and close to the main square of the Medina. It was quiet and peaceful and we had plenty of space. Amina's cooking and charming personality started our day off with smiles and full bellies. Jawad works very hard and is very thorough and reliable. On top of it all, he's the coolest guy in Marrakech!
I highly recommend staying in one of the roads Jawad manages, you won't regret it!
Great experience with Jawad and his beautiful Riad!
If you plan to explore Marrakesh...Jawad will be the right man!
See you soon!
