About this listing
Enter a magical garden, full of tropical fruit, flowers, fishponds, art, statues and an open air Jacuzzi!
Easy walking distance to everything Ubud has to offer - or let us suggest exciting day trips.
Enjoy your lovely air-conditioned room, en-suite bathroom, and private balcony where we'll serve you a delicious breakfast and drinks during the day.
Our smiling, helpful staff are looking forward to welcoming you.
Rumah Jepun is a calm oasis right in the middle of town.
This en-suite room, has a private balcony overlooking a delightfully lush tropical garden.
We offer a blend of modern facilities merged with traditional touches... a beautiful hand-carved Balinese door, brightly coloured furnishings and a modern bathroom.
The room is non-smoking and our daily housekeeping includes fresh flowers.
Walk down steps of the leaf-imprinted pathway, embedded with words such as 'harmony' and 'gratitude' to your room on the ground floor.
Stroll past banana and papaya trees, jepun and hibiscus flowers, chili and aloe vera plants as you walk down to the river at the bottom of the garden.
Sit on the bale (gazebo) with a cup of coffee and a book, or your laptop. It's a great place for meditation by the peaceful sound of the river and we can even arrange an outdoor massage there for you. Your room also has a yoga mat so you can practice under warm Balinese skies, on your balcony or in your room.
Although Rumah Jepun is set in a quiet and tranquil garden it's only 2 mins walk to the many shops, cafes, bars and spas along the busy Monkey Forest Road.
If this room isn't available try its sister rooms:
'Charm, character and culture with a Jacuzzi': https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/757039
or: 'Romantic Hideaway with 4 poster bed & Jacuzzi': https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3734096
Note: all three rooms at Rumah Jepun are for singles, couples or two friends who are happy to share a double room.
Enjoy free wifi, aircon and a large private balcony overlooking the tropical garden.
You can lay on a sunbed or chill out in the bale (a thatched gazebo) next to the river.
Drinking water is freely available and our housekeeper will also make you a choice of breakfasts, plus tea and coffee during the day.
In your wardrobe is a box of 9 items that might come in handy:
A torch (sometimes there are power cuts in Bali)
A book to read (“A Taste of Bali” or “Life’s Journeys” - both feature my poems)
A Lonely Planet guide to Indonesia
A pack of cards
A fan (it gets hot in Bali)
A mosquito repellant
A stip – otherwise known as a catapult. You see, occasionally we get monkeys visiting Rumah Jepun. To scare them off, harmlessly, simply ‘ping’ the empty catapult at them!
Oh and there's a yoga mat in your wardrobe too!
An iron and ironing board, an electric fan, an extra pillow or weighing scales are also available - just ask!
Interaction with guests
Our friendly, live-in staff, Gede, Ketut and Ketut (who you can see in the photos) will greet you and offer a welcome drink.
If we know your arrival time they can also help to bring your bags from the street to your room.
Long term resident, Julie, is usually here to say 'hello' too and can answer queries and have a chat about Bali and its unique culture. Maybe join her on an insightful garden tour, highlighting many cultural aspects of Bali.
Some guests have even joined her for a meal, a game of cards or a night-out dancing.
Of course, some guests just want time and space to themselves and we respect that.
We are looking forward to welcoming you at Rumah Jepun - the home of a poet/lyricist (published in 'A Taste of Bali' and 'Life's Journeys').
Ubud oozes with culture, scenery, temples, spas, art museums, adventure, great shopping, alternative therapies and many yoga / meditation studios - even the famous yoga barn is only 15 mins walk away.
You can go to rice fields, mountains, volcanoes and hot springs. Or swimming, cycling, trekking, rafting and dancing. Or to the Zoo, Bird Park, Reptile Park, Elephant Park or Safari.
This is topped off with a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars, traditional performances and great live music.
And, if you're vegetarian, vegan or a raw food lover then you'll be spoilt for choice in Ubud.
The folder in your room gives lots of ideas and you can ask us for more details.
We're right in the middle of Ubud.
The monkey forest, with hundreds of monkeys, is less than 8 mins walk away. The market and palace are easy walking distance at the other end of the Monkey Forest Road.
A map of Ubud is in the folder in your room and we can help you book transport to take you further afield to visit temples, rice terraces, the volcano or the beach.
We can also arrange a driver to pick you up from the airport... or from your accommodation, if you're already in Bali. Just ask for a quote.
Other things to note
Bali is a tropical island so the weather tends to be warm, to hot, all year round, frequently reaching 30 deg c.
Some swimming pools are available to the public for a small fee, alternatively the nearest beach is just over an hour away.
The volcano is approximately an hour away too - in the opposite direction! Maybe you want to go to the hot springs there?
Hey, why not get your phone unlocked before you come to Bali - that way you can get a cheap sim card here and be able to contact us, or your driver, should you need help/advice while out and about.
We're in a natural environment with a jungle backdrop.
Please be aware that our traditional Balinese doors could be challenging for really tall guests.
For singles, couples or two friends who are happy to share a double room.
Not suitable for those who have difficulty walking down steps.
Check in time is from 2pm.
Check out time is by 12 noon but if you need us to store your bags for a while that is fine.
We need a copy of your passport to register you - the copier is here in Rumah Jepun and the registration fee is included in your room rental.
We're difficult to find so we recommend letting us arrange a driver to pick you up.
Alternatively please advise your arrival time here so our staff can wait for you on the street (note: guests often say they'll arrive at 2pm but in reality arrive much later - if this is the case PLEASE inform us, to prevent our staff waiting on the street for ages in the hot sun when they have work to do at the house, thank you).
Please also use our detailed written directions in the itinerary - do NOT trust goo..gle maps!
Breakfast orders are taken between 8am and 10.30am (please do not ask for breakfast earlier than 8am, as this is the time our staff start work).
Rooms are non-smoking (nor candles, incense, mosquito coils or strong smelling products), but you are welcome to smoke on your private balcony.
Please read our house rules about using the jacuzzi (they are in the folder in your room and on the wall by the jacuzzi).
No illegal activities.
Please be respectful of staff and facilities and ENJOY your time at Rumah Jepun!
Pasek and the Rumah Jepun team are looking forward to welcoming you.
We hope you'll experience Balinese culture, enjoy delicious food and marvel at nature's tropical beauty, unique architecture and the thought-provoking temples on this enchanting island.
It's inspiration like this that's turned people into poets, authors, singer/songwriters, artists and yoga & meditation practitioners.
While here you'll meet our friendly, helpful staff Gede, Ketut and Nengah (who make great pancakes for breakfast!) and long term resident Julie.
Come and visit Ubud and experience the beauty and inspiration for yourself.
Bali - a place like no other.
