Rumah Jepun, Ubud - Lotus View Room

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Jalan Monkey Forest (Monkey Forest Road, Ubud, Bali 80571, Indonesia

The Space

A calm oasis, yet right in the middle of town...

A choice of two lovely double bedrooms, both with private balconies overlooking a delightfully lush tropical garden.

The Lotus View and River View offer a blend of modern facilities merged with traditional touches.

Beautiful hand-carved Balinese doors, brightly coloured furnishings, a wardrobe with plenty of coat hangers and western style en-suite bathrooms.

The rooms are non-smoking with daily housekeeping.

The garden is on three levels as it goes down to the river and its small waterfall. There are papaya and banana trees, jepun and hibiscus flowers, chili and aloe vera plants.

You walk down steps of the leaf-imprinted pathway, embedded with words such as 'harmony' and 'gratitude' to your room on the ground floor.

You can sit on the bale (gazebo) with a cup of coffee and a book, or your laptop. It's a great place to meditate and we can even arrange an outdoor massage there for you, or provide you a mat for yoga under warm Balinese skies.

Although Rumah Jepun is set in a quiet and tranquil garden it's only 2 mins walk to the many shops, cafes, bars and spas along the busy Monkey Forest Road.

If this room isn't available try its sister room, River View Room: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/757039.

Note: the two rooms at Rumah Jepun are ideal for singles, couples or two friends who are happy to share a double room.

Guest Access

Your en-suite room comes with wifi, aircon and a private balcony which overlooks the garden.

Sun-loungers are available or you can chill out in the bale (a thatched gazebo) next to the river.

Drinking water is freely available and our housekeeper will also make you a choice of breakfasts, plus tea and coffee during the day.

Interaction with Guests

Our friendly, live-in staff will greet you and offer a welcome drink. If we know your arrival time they can also help to bring your bags from the street to your room.

I'm usually here to welcome you too and can answer any queries and have a chat about Bali and its unique culture.

Some guests have even joined me for a meal, drink or a night-out dancing at Yaniq's gig (my Balinese partner).

We are looking forward to welcoming you in the Lotus View Room at Rumah Jepun - the home of a poet (published in 'A Taste of Bali' and 'Life's Journeys').

The Neighborhood

Ubud oozes culture, scenery, temples, spas, art museums, meditation, alternative therapies, adventure, great shopping for handicrafts and even the yoga barn is less than 20 mins walk away.

This is topped off with a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars, traditional performances and great live music.

The folder in your room gives lots of ideas and you can ask me for more details.

Getting around

We're right in the middle of Ubud.

The monkey forest, with hundreds of monkeys, is less than 10 mins walk away. The market and palace are easy walking distance at the other end of the Monkey Forest Road.

A map of Ubud is in the folder in your room and we can help you book a taxi to take you further afield to visit temples, rice terraces, the volcano or the beach.

We can also arrange an airport pick-up, just give us your flight details.

Other Things to Note

Bali is a tropical island so the weather tends to be warm, to hot, all year round, frequently reaching 30 deg c.

So you might want to cool off in our neighbouring hotel's swimming pool for a small fee, alternatively the nearest beach is only about an hour away.

The volcano is approximately an hour away too - in the opposite direction! Maybe you want to go to the hot springs there?

  • Julie was very responsive when booking and there was even somebody on the street to show us the way as the rooms are located behind hotel. This is a good thing as the place is really quiet. Julie was a great host and helped us when needed. We can recommend Julies place which also is close to everything (yoga, shops and restaurants).

  • Wonderful, cozy garden home tucked within the heart of Ubud. Julie is a warm, graceful, generous hostess who attended very well to my last-minute check in. We enjoyed conversations in the lush ambiance of her manicured tropical garden. Gede even had a breakfast cooked up for me, two hours past the time breakfast was served. He's awesome.

Room was sparkling and well appointed, the towels were creatively folded into stuffed animal shapes.

If you're looking to discover a private little retreat that's close to shopping, dining and activity, with a beaming warm hostess. This is the place for you.

  • Came for 7 stayed for 10, and I would have stayed longer if I could. Julie was the perfect hostess and I settled in seamlessly. She and Gede were always available to help with anything I needed or simply offer some local recommendations. The location is ideal. You are definitely in the heart of things but removed at the same time so it's retains its quiet, peaceful charm. The premises are beautiful and the rooms are kept really clean. I also really enjoyed the filling breakfasts while sitting on the terrace chatting with my neighbor. I hope to one day return to Ubud and Rumah Jepun. It's the kind of place that stays with you.

  • Thanks Julie!

Sarah and I had a wonderful stay at your place! It's a great location because it's right in the heart of Ubud (Monkey Forest) but is still tucked away from the motorcycle filled streets. Within a walking distance (literally a minute) from restaurants, bars and shopping!

The place was kept so well and felt cozy, authentic AND modern at the same time. There was staff always at hand and they were helpful.

Thanks so much, Julie! I would def come back to stay here next time I come to Ubud!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Julie's place! The room was clean, the breakfast was delicious and Julie and her staff were nice and helpful all the time. The folder containing informations about the area of Ubud which was provided in the room also was really helpful for me! I was really sorry that I didn't see Julie the day I left to tell her good bye and how much I liked it, but if come to Ubud again, I'll definetly book the Lotus View Room again :)

  • I stayed at Rumah Jepun for 4 days. It was real comfortable. Their driver Made Mangku picked me up at the airport, an amazing man. He was mmy driver for the rest of my stay in Bali. I would recommend him to everybody. Breakfast was simple and good, relaxed in this beautiful and silent garden. Unfortunately i didn't meet Julie, cause she was not abroad. Had a wonderful stay. Thank you!

  • Lovely and tranquil spot! Beautiful grounds and friendly atmosphere. Fresh fruit and tropical flowers abound.

  • I stayed at Julie's house for almost one week and had such a great experience! My room was very clean and spacious. Location of the house is great as you right in the center of Ubud, but its still very quite and away from the main road. Julie is very knowledgeable and gave me a lot of advice and tips what to do in Ubud. Staff is great and they would make a delicious breakfast. I would definitely stay at Julie's house again when I am back to Ubud!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed a week at Rumah Jepun. Perfect location in Ubud and an oasis away from the main street. The room was very clean and spacious and the internet connection was good. Julie and her staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. I felt very relaxed and at home here, enjoying many wonderful recommendations by Julie (be sure to visit Sedona spa), great chats, live music and a random game of Uno ; ) I will definitely be back and look forward to it.

  • Julie was the perfect host! Even before I arrived, she provided me with useful information and arranged for transportation from the airport. She made thoughtful recommendations about local food, performances, activities, and my (now) favorite spa, Sedona...but above all, it was her warm personality and genuine interest in making my stay comfortable and interesting that won me over!
The villa is nicely situated in the heart of Ubud, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Monkey Forest Road and engulfed in a beautiful garden. The staff was friendly and helpful, and cooked delicious breakfast with a strong Balinese coffee in the morning. I would highly recommend staying with Julie in Rumah Jepun.

About
The man in the photo is Pasek, he built the house on Ketut Astana's land and you are likely to meet him here... along with the friendly and helpful staff, Gede, Tedy and Ketut (who can all make great pancakes!). Bali's people, culture, landscape and architecture fascinate and inspire me. The inspiration results in poetry - some poems have been published while others have been turned into lyrics for a Balinese songwriter. Come and visit Ubud and experience the beauty and inspiration for yourself. Bali - a place like no other.
