The riad was beautifully renovated and tastefully furnished. Each bedroom was large and provided with its own private bath. The baths were to modern standards and were spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the beautiful combination of colors in the house and furnishings and also enjoyed the berber carpets in the rooms. The WiFi worked well in the common area, but could not be accessed from the room. The host was very responsive and accommodating during our stay. He provided us with a map, and explained how to get to some of the main attractions within the medina. On the day of arrival, we took advantage of the evening meal offer in the riad. We had a lamb and peas Tajine, which was well prepared and delicious. We had a rental car, so it was nice to find a guarded parking area just outside the Bab Aylen gate. From there, it was only about 250m to the Riad Zara.
I had such a great time at Riad Zara!! Monique organised my transport from the airport to the riad and the driver was very nice and professional. Complimentary Mint tea on arrival was so welcoming! Followed by a whole heap of practical information for my time in Marrakech/Morocco. Riad Zara is so pretty, well decorated by Monique! It felt like an Oasis in Medina! Nice breakfasts served every morning. Also Monique's cooking is amazing for any other meals of the day (3 course dinner!). My room was the one with loft bed, clean, cute and well furnished with ensuite. Nice rooftop area for quiet timeout. I have particular interest in pottery and was lucky and Monique had time to take me to the area of potters/factory. Also, Monique very kindly dropped me off at the airport for my departure. I could not have made a better choice! Riad Zara is definitely recommended! Thanks Monique!
Me and My Girlfriend arrived at the airport to a taxi organised by Monique and waiting for us, very easy 15 minute drive from the airport to the edge of the medina and then a short 2 minute walk to Riad Zara. We arrived before our check in time but we where very happily accommodated. Monique and Hassam where wonderful, very helpful and very friendly, made us feel completely at Home straight away. They where very accommodating to our occasional long sleep in and would always have a wonderful breakfast waiting as soon as we had woken up, whatever time that happened to be, Breakfast was different most days with fresh fruit and yogurt and different Moroccan pastries and breads and home made Berber Peanut Butter and many other spreads, always with a pot of mint tea and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Monique was full of fantastic tips and ideas for how to spend our time and how to get the greatest deals, she was truly our Marrakech guardian angel, we grew to love her very quickly, she speaks english and french very well and has a good tip no matter what you want to go do, be it a couples Hammam or just general Haggling advice. She gave us many Options for day trips also and another family there went to Imlil in the mountains on one of these trips and said it was absolutely fantastic. She has a lovely selection of treats and drinks and wines if you want to stay in and chill at the Riad and can make you dinner if you are feeling very lazy.
The Riad itself was incredible, we loved it so much, just like the pictures, amazing Tiles and patterns everywhere, very traditional and all the original fixtures just refurbished, it all very nicely looked after definitely the most soulful place we had looked at or saw whilst there, the Roof is wonderful, beautiful shady boxes, wonderful place to read, very hot in the sun even at the beginning of january (and when it gets cold Monique bust's out all the heaters makes it very cosy in the friendly common space)
This Riad was the perfect place for us, it is a good 15 minute walk for Jemma Al Fna, the main square, but that was fine for us, we enjoyed being able to get away from the madness in the souks and around, but for some it may be too long. And come back to our wonderfully peaceful Riad where we felt completely at home. We were able to come back whenever we wanted also as Monique gave us our own key so we didn't have to disturb anyone.
We will always look back on this trip with huge amounts of affection and love, it was total magic and a lot of that is due to Monique and the community feeling she has created at Riad Zara. We will definitely be back!
I had a wonderful stay at Riad Zara. Everything looks just as the pictures suggest and Monique is a fantastic host - great with communication and someone who goes out of her way to provide you with whatever tips you need to make your holiday memorable. She recommended the best hammam (very economical and non-touristy) and she even arranged a car and English-speaking driver to take my friends and me to Essaouria for a couple of days at a very reasonable price. The riad itself is lovely. It's located in a quiet part of the medina. Dinner there the first night is a must and breakfast on the rooftop is delightful. I highly recommend staying at Riad Zara.
Our stay at Riad Zara was one of the best aspects of our time in Marrakech. Monique welcomed us warmly and, along with Hassan, went out of her way to make us feel at home. Monique has a stupendous sense of color and design, so that every corner of the riad is alluring and enchanting. We stayed a total of 9 nights, with an intervening desert excursion, and so we got to experience two splendid rooms, both of which offered ample space for our family of 4 and more beauty and comfort than we could have hoped for, not to mention a sequence of dazzling breakfasts, hand prepared by Monique and Hassan and always with a warm smile. Don't hesitate to take Monique up on her offer of dinner at the riad -- we had some of our very best evening meals there! We also loved the neighborhood in which Riad Zara is situated and treasured our walks both to and fro. My family's advice: don't think twice about booking at Riad Zara. Monique will take great care to get you on the right track, help you understand the city and its surroundings, and make you feel at home. We miss her already!
