  • Good Points.
    cheap accommodation
    good location
    Poor points.
No room in the freezer for a guest cold brick.
    Very basic accommodation.
lots of scrap paper stuck to walls etc telling guests what they cannot do.
Harsh bedroom light and no bedside lamp made reading in bed difficult.

    Response from Penny:

Lots of people have told me the house is beautiful and the room is nice (I did not prompt them to say this either). Some people have said the house is pretty big. Robyn is extremely critical. I have noticed she lives in a massive, fancy mansion from her house photos. Robyn and her husband look like they are in their sixties. Due to their age they would have got a fancy house which in the old days would have not cost that much. Australia had pretty cheap houses in the old days, but now houses cost a lot. Australia now has among the highest house prices in the world (some years ago they said Australia had the most overvalued houses in the world, overvalued by 52%), and many younger people cannot afford their own house. Even the Australian demographer Bernard Salt said people of Robyn's generation were the richest in the history of humankind. Robyn is making unfair comparisons expecting everyone to live in a rich, fancy mansion like her. We have two freezers here, Robyn was welcome to use both but she did not. They are signs, not scrap paper. A lot of guests have said the few signs helped them know where things are and helps the house run well eg. "Please do not smoke inside." The bedroom light is not harsh. I have had over a hundred guests in the room and not one of them has complained about the bedroom light. There is sufficient light in the room to read, I have read in the bedroom without any problems, it is fine. Maybe Robyn has eyesight problems. I would have happily provided Robyn with a bedside lamp, but she did not ask me. Robyn does not communicate much with people, even when you make an effort to communicate with her. Her husband is much nicer and willing to communicate with people.

  • Penny is the friendliest host we have ever met. Although I haven't met her in person yet, she was willing to provide me with many information of Gold Coast and her house. Upon our arrival, I didn't have the chance to meet her but my boyfriend did and he was very impressed by Penny's attitude and hospitality. The house is spacious and cosy to stay in. We love Penny's cats, they are very cute and friendly! If you love to live in quiet and residential area while having your own car, Penny's house is a very good option. Or else you have to walk 8-10 mins to the bus stop, which is not a very long walk. All in all, we will recommend Penny's house to our friends who travel to Gold Coast!

  • Penny has a beautiful and very clean house! She is really nice and she has made me feel welcome since the first moment I arrived! It is more than worth to stay there!

  • Penny ist an easygoing person. We could share the kitchen and the bathroom.

  • location is very good. Many different parrots. Within doors only not very clean crockery. Penny and Zoe with her mother were friendly and welcoming. Thank you.

    Response from Penny:

The crockery is clean. This is the first complaint I have had about this. There are no marks on the crockery and it is in good condition. People have complimented me on how clean the house is so I find this a petty complaint that only a clean freak would make. Polina and her 6 year old son kept matches and candles and lit them while I was away on holiday (I saw evidence of candles being lit when I returned home. Polina arrived while I was on my annual holiday. I told her I would be on holiday for a few days before she arrived, but she still booked) this could have been a fire hazard. You cannot trust a 6 year old to be careful with matches and candles all the time. They also had sparklers in the house. They should have been aware of the fire danger.

  • It's a nice place and worth the price asked, havent meet penny yet maybe on our next visit we will. thanks anyway for letting us stay there for 2 nights.

  • Lovely house and well worth the price! As described and pictures true to the place

unfortunately we did not get to meet Penny as she was away on vacation while we were there, but she provided great communication and gave us clear instructions prior to arrival. She even liaised with the other guests to look out for us and make sure everything was as easy as possible.

If you have a car while visiting the Gold Coast, i would greatly recommend staying at Penny's rather than to pay for hostels where you will have to share a room with others

Thanks again Penny for letting us stay at your house
