The space

Welcome to our charming home in the Umbrian countryside. The property rests on the side of Todi hill surrounded by 10 hectares of fields, fruit trees and olive trees.
We provide guest accommodation in our spacious guest bedroom, with a kingsize bed, antique furniture and fresh clean towels and bedsheets. There is a small wardrobe and chest of drawers for those who want to unpack.
While the bathroom is shared, we’ll mostly use the other bathroom during your stay, so no waiting to brush your teeth at night!
Breakfast is self-service, with a push-button Nespresso coffee machine, plenty of milk, cereal, yogurt and fresh fruit. And no need to worry about doing the dishes, we have a dishwasher! Our well-equipped kitchen is there for your use if you want to make any other meals.
We have a living room with a comfy sofa, Sky TV and a cosy glass-fronted fire. There is a table in the dining area, another in the kitchen and one in an outside pergola area if you want to eat at home. We also have broadband WiFi internet. The property’s thick stone walls keep it cool during summer and keep the heat in during winter, so you should always be comfortable inside.
Todi has a good range of restaurants serving traditional local dishes and there is a well stocked supermarket near the house. The house is 1.6km from the historic centre of Todi, about 20 minutes walk for those willing to brave the steep hill up to the town. There are no sidewalks and few streetlights so it isn’t ideal for walking from one part to another, but there are beautiful countryside footpaths which lead from our house to other places, you can walk to an old monastery or alongside the Tiber River.
If you want to visit Rome, our house is 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from the Villa Borghese. Other towns and cities are also in driving distance: Assisi 45 minutes; Perugia 40 minutes; Deruta (famous for ceramics) 20 minutes; Montefalco 40 minutes; Orvieto 45 minutes; Spoleto 50 minutes; Civitavecchia di Bagnoregio 1 hour; Arezzo 1.5 hours and Florence 2 hours.
Guido and I are good fun, chilled and enjoy a peaceful life. You can be sure of a warm welcome from us, our 6 cats and especially from our 2 dogs! We throughly enjoy meeting new people and hearing their amazing stories about their travels!
If you would like to know anything else, don't hesitate to ask.

Guest access

Guests have a spacious private bedroom with plenty of closet and drawer space. Our newly refurbished bathrooms are shared with Guests and the household. The household will use the shower on the ground floor to allow the guests frequent access to the shower next to their bedroom. The kitchen and dining area are shared. All outside seating areas can be used by guests.

Interaction with guests

We work during the day, but we are around most evenings when we enjoy chatting to guests. We also enjoying cooking and eating with guests from time to time. Occasionally we stay away a night or two in Rome, in which case we make sure the guests have everything they need and know everything they need to.

The neighborhood

Our property nestles on the side of the hill below the historic town of Todi. Set in green rolling hills of the Tiber valley, close to the village of Ponte Rio.

Getting around

The area is best explored by car, though some guests have managed on foot and with the very limited public transport. Those who have managed on foot have been young, fit and fearless, since there are no footpaths or street lights and we are at the bottom of an extremely steep hill.

Other things to note

We have pets, 2 dogs and six cats. They are always happy to socialise with people. If you don't like animals or this seems too many ours is not the place for you.

You really need a car to fully enjoy the area.

Vocabolo Il Casino is a charming house with very cheerful and careful hosts Jon-Scot and Guido. The room is big and clean, furnished in country style, cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom "shared" but always at your disposal. The dogs and cats, friendliest of the world, create a family atmosphere, but never worry you if you don't want it. My special thanks to Jon-Scot and Guido for carrying me every day to Todi and back at home, it was really very hospitably. I would definitely recommend Vocabolo Il Casino for quiet and comfortable vacation in marvellous Umbria.

We were welcomed by Jon-Scot and his partner in their big and comfortable house. We love animals but were taken aback by the fact that we had to share the house with 2 dogs and 7 cats. Most of the cats were kept inside so there were several cat-litter trays throughout the house and they were not cleaned regularly which created a bit of a smell. Furthermore cleaning was not done in most parts of the house specially the kitchen. The area is quiet but nothing is in walking distance. The road next to the house to Todi is too busy and narrow for a walk so one always has to take the car.

We stayed at Vocabolo il Casino in Todi (Umbria) with Jon-Scot and Guido and used their home as a base for one week as we explored different areas of Umbria each day by car. We had a spacious, clean, attractive, comfortable room (with plenty of closet and drawer space) in a lovely old house situated above a field of sunflowers, with shared bathroom facilities. The hosts were very accommodating about making sure that we had access to showers at times convenient to us, and there was handy parking. We had full use of the kitchen facilities and were shown how to find and use everything necessary, including use of refrigerator and pantry space for our breakfast and lunch supplies and generous sharing of their own food supplies at times. We had use of the washer and clothesline at one point, which was appreciated. We had very interesting conversations with Jon-Scot about a wide range of topics, and Guido was also very helpful with suggestions of places to see and how to get to them. They were warm, friendly, and kind and really made us feel at home and welcome, even when they had family members visiting, and their dogs and cats added even more enjoyment to our experience there. If we returned to Umbria, we would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend this B&B to others. Sean & Cindy

Incredible stay here. Jon-Scot and Guido were both so welcoming. I loved learning about their story as we all had dinner together. They were super helpful and super accommodating. Thank you! Their home is very close to town when I wanted to drive in and explore a little bit, but it is also very nice and quietly nestled into the country side.

Outstanding hosts, both 2 legged and four!! Loved the villa and 4 cats and 2 dogs...if you miss home this is a great home away from home. Even invited to share a home made pizza with their friends AND let me use their washing machine and hang clothes outside a special treat!! ..lovely warm and friendly experience. Todi is at top of a steep hill. Best to have a car. When I come back will plan on staying here again. Ciao, signe

We were privileged to stay at Jon-Scot and Guido's house ( unfortunately only for 1 night) This is one of the highlights of our trip. They were more than hospitable and we were lucky enough to feel like a member of their family for the too short duration of our stay. If anything, I wish that we stayed here a bit longer as the area has endless attractions and the landscape is picture postcard perfect. We enjoyed a meal at a highly recommended restaurant and were joined by our hosts in a neighbouring village. The company, food and fabulous wine made for an unforgettable evening and a night we shall always treasure. Thanks guys for making it special. Lionel & Dewald

We are a friendly Italo-Scots couple with a love for animals and the great outdoors. Jon-Scot grew up in a small town near Edinburgh and Guido in Modena. We left our busy jobs in Edinburgh for a new life in the Italian countryside in 2009, why don't you come and see how it's working out!
