I may not be home during your arrival, or able to answer your calls. This listing plus the message you will receive will explain everything you will need to know.
The house is located a couple blocks north of 35th and Spring Garden Street. 1.6 Miles to The University Of Pennsylvania (a 15-20 minute walk.)
While this is not a luxury estate, it is the perfect home for those who are simply looking for a nice, cozy place to stay for an affordable price.
The house is a row home with a full size kitchen, living room, bathroom and guest room available for you to use.
I live in this house year round and host each night. Adrian and I have been together for over 3 years, and while he does not live here, he is a host as well.
Airbnb is a high priority to us, so we take this very seriously. Our house is set up to accommodate each guest, while providing each reservation the privacy that they need.
The guest room has a full size memory foam bed, with clean bedding, a closet, a dresser. There is a door lock with key access, and a seasonal fan. This room fits two guests, while the living room can fit four.
The bathroom holds all basic amenities, including fresh towels, filtered shower water, shampoo, soap, and travel needs. You will need to squeegee the bath tub walls after showering, and leave the bathroom door open after using this room to help with air circulation.
The kitchen is available for your use. This tends to be my storage space, but you are free to move anything around that you need to. I just ask that you put all food and plates away (in cabinets or refrigerator) after use.
The living room is not only used for leisure, but it provides space for additional guests. The couch is an Ikea Beddinge Futon that fits two guests. There is also a full size airbed for reservations over four (4). Bedding is provided for each guest, but feel free to bring any items you may need.
Interaction with Guests
I host every night of the year so I are very use to and comfortable with having guests. I will do my best to make sure you have everything you need for a cozy environment.
There is a chance I will not be there for your arrival. You must read and respond to the message I will send you when your reservation dates are near. Check in is an independent process, and this house requires a little bit more fenis (removing shoes at door, wiping shower walls, turning off lights.) This message will explain everything you will need to know without needed to ask.
Free parking in front of the house.
The house is located in University City, one block north of Powelton Village. Drexel and Penn University Security Guards monitor the neighborhood at all times. For security reasons and by Airbnb regulations, I am not able to give you the exact address before you book your stay.
There is a 'Check-Point' In front of the house, on the side where cars are park that is monitored by campus police. They must check in every 30 minutes on rotating times to confirm safe activity in the neighborhood. There is a Fire Department across the street, and a Police station three blocks away. I have never had a problem in this area, nor have my previous guests.
Campus security ends one block north of mount vernon street and west of past 35th and mount vernon street. I suggest staying south of Mount Vernon and off of 35th to 40th and mount vernon street.
Transportation to and from the house is very simple and manageable. The house is located near University City, west of the Schuylkill River.
- It is a 20-minute car ride from the Philadelphia International Air Port (a $32 taxi ride), 6-minutes from 30th St Station for Amtrak, Mega/Bolt Bus, Trains ($8 Taxi Ride from Amtrak Station) and 15-minutes from Center City ($14 Taxi Ride.) The area is surrounded by public transportation (SEPTA) and plenty of free parking in front of the house. SEPTA rides are $2.25 each way.

The apartment was conveniently positioned close to the CS testing center for a very reasonable price. Alicia was a very welcoming host, and all the amenities being clearly labeled made things very easy. Would stay here again.
Though I never met Alicia in person my stay went very smoothly. Check in wad easy and everything was well signed. The room was very nice and clean and the bed was comfortable. My stay was very short but was good and comfortable and would stay there again.
I highly recommend this place for stay in Philadelphia. Owner is very friendly and helpful. Everything was well organized. Apartment is close to market street, area is safe.
I stayed here for a 4-day trip, and the accommodations were comfortable and as described - it's a cozy private bedroom with a comfortable bed, ample closet storage space, and a good a/c unit in the room. There are plenty of guest amenities and access to the kitchen for cooking meals. And if you're not into making the walk to/from the colleges, museums, etc., Uber is a good option here - inexpensive, quick, and readily available in this part of town.
Overall, I found it to be a good value for the price.
The host was not even there in the house when we arrived.
The listing description was far from accurate - for one, the room was way smaller than the one shown, the rules and regulations were a mile long (proven by the mail she sent when i signed up with her). I have pictures of the super small room, and the chairs on the dining table had a cloth, wire cutter and scotch tape on it. The plug point in the room she gave us (not the one shown in the pics) was loose and the A.C made a godawful noise all night. The backyard was scary and was bonded by broken fences and wire. I have pictures and recordings to prove everything. For a person who expects one hundred do's and don't's from the guests, these are quite a few lapses already.
And then there was the most bizarre and puzzling rule of having to leave the bathroom door open while using it!!
But none of these are the real issue. The real issue is the location. It is NOT close (not walking distance - nearly 2 miles) to University of Pennsylvania as she claims. A misleading and deliberate, factual error. The part of town her house is in, is a crime prone area of Philadelphia (as evidenced by crime maps of Philly searched on google) and looked the part - shady, trash on the streets, stray cats and dogs roaming, along with low lives hanging out, most probably up to shady business (eg - selling drugs, pimping).
This is no place to stay a night with one's parents. Take our advice and stay away from here, unless you fancy getting mugged or raped. We never even left the house once we got in and left first thing next morning. Save your money and go to a motel - lesser cost and better facilities. This is not even worth half the price asked, is half as comfortable and twice as shady as they make it out to be.
For my prospective guests, I would like for you to take a moment to look over the reviews beneath this. You will see that they all say the complete opposite of what ‘S’ is saying.
As requested by Airbnb, this is my response to the comment.
My Dearest Subho Chakraborty, You contacted me a total of 72 times before your reservation date. I answered each time. Prior to arrival you were sent a message with full directions on how to enter the house because I would not be there. I had to come home early to help you in. Then later that night, when we were talking to each other in the living room, you never mentioned any problems to me. Even as I showered you where the pots & pans were to cook. After leaving my house, you sent me a text thanking me for the stay, saying that everything was fine.
I think you need to ask yourself, ‘Why am I the only comment out of 200+ positive reviews that mentions these things?’
Was my home the problem? Or perhaps, was it you?
As for broken fences, drugs, pimping, & low lives? I’m not even going to get into that. It just seems like you were buttering up your case to get a refund. And showering with the bathroom door open? Really? That’s just bizarre.
Good luck at CUNY and New Castle. May you, Subas Chakraborty and Gita Chakraborty be well.
I am very glad to have a chance stay here. On Friday night, I arrived very late (around 2am) but Alicia was still there waiting for me and gave me a warm welcome.
The place is good and comfort, will definitely visit again. Recommend for everyone!
My experience was a great one! Even though I didn't bump into Alicia once, I did feel welcome. There was a lot of privacy and things were set aside for guests (towels, toiletries, etc.) exactly as Alicia mentioned. The independent check in & out was really convenient, especially because I had to travel out of state. The neighborhood was very close to the college campus (so there are a lot of close food & stores nearby) and the neighbors seemed nice. Definitely worth the overall price!

About the Host, Alicia

Adrian and I are honored to be apart of this truly fantastic company.
