Interaction with Guests
I live in the house, but I usually keep to myself.
While this is not a luxury estate, it is the perfect home for those who are simply looking for a nice, cozy place to stay for an affordable price.
The house is located in University City, one block north of Powelton Village. Drexel and Penn University Security Guards monitor the neighborhood at all times. For security reasons and by Airbnb regulations, I am not able to give you the exact address before you book your stay.
There is a 'Check-Point' In front of the house, on the side where cars are park that is monitored by campus police. They must check in every 30 minutes on rotating times to confirm safe activity in the neighborhood. There is a Fire Department across the street, and a Police station three blocks away. I have never had a problem in this area, nor have my previous guests.
Transportation to and from the house is very simple and manageable. The house is located near University City, west of the Schuylkill River.
- It is a 20-minute car ride from the Philadelphia International Air Port (a $32 taxi ride), 6-minutes from 30th St Station for Amtrak, Mega/Bolt Bus, Trains ($8 Taxi Ride from Amtrak Station) and 15-minutes from Center City ($14 Taxi Ride.) The area is surrounded by public transportation (SEPTA) and plenty of free parking in front of the house. SEPTA rides are $2.25 each way.

Alicia's directions for getting to and into the house were complete and accurate. The neighbourhood may not be a fancy one, but it felt safe and quiet. The room is as advertised and clean. The kitchen and living room were a little different from the photographs, and a bit cluttered (but to be fair, this is mentioned in the photo's captions). It wasn't an issue for me as I didn't spend a lot of time there. Getting to and from the city was convenient by bus. Most of all I think this place offers great value for money, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to sleep while in Philadelpha.
Alicia was a friendly host, the room clean and the house had everything for a pleasant stay stay. The neighbourhood may seem a little intimidating for someone who's not used to Philadelphia but I felt safe during the time I stayed.
The listing was accurate as described online. The apartment was easy to locate despite arriving at sunset. If you are walking here, take note that walking up 34th is preferable than through say 36th.
Upon arriving it became clear through signs left by the host where the room was and what was directed to guests.
I appreciated the wooden hangars left in the closet and the toiletries left for use.
I wouldve liked to have met the host but she did leave a note stating she keeps to herself.
I would stay here again.
Alicia was a wonderful host with a comfortable, organized space and answers for my questions. The directions to and from were easy to follow and the little things a traveler might want were all in place. She has a real future in hospitality :).
It must be said that the location was a bit far. I did hear an interesting story from a man who walked alongside me for three blocks and told me a story about his mother, but I enjoyed it :).
All in all, though, a tremendous value for the price.
