Very Walkable Gentrified neighborhood. There's a great take out seafood spot (Cajuns) and bakery/coffee shop 3 blocks away. There's a library as well as a grocery store blocks away from the house.
Public bus transportation is within 3 blocks on the 16 bus ($1.25 or $3.00 for day pass). For faster travel, a car or bicycle is highly recommended. Driveway and street parking are plentiful. Several cafes, restaurants, drug stores, social venues and small parks are located within a 2-mile radius. My home is a short five-minute drive from bustling Magazine and Freret Streets—must-visit locales for unique New Orleans shops and fare. I'm a 7-10min drive from the French Quarter and Bourbon St ($10 cab ride +tip). The streetcar located on St. Charles is(1.3 miles away). Was amazing jay was really helpful and the place was huge great air con which is needed in nola gave us the run down of all the places to go and eat and drink ect....
The Monte Cristo is a terrific apartment that's close to the Quarter and Oak Street. Jay is friendly and helpful as well. I'd definitely stay here again!
Wonderful experience, spacious apt. Close to everything. Jay is a great host, very friendly, easy to contact & very informative.
We didn't meet Jay but he was responsive and welcoming on text. The apartment was spacious and as described. The bathroom was tiny and dated but functioned well with plenty of hot water. Overall it was a bit shabby and needs some TLC but essentially it all works so nothing major to complain about!
Jay is a great guy and very accommodating! Kitchen is passable but who wants to cook when in NOLA! Coffee pot worked and fridge was cold. For us, that's all we needed. :) The place was clean and I agree with other reviewers: "Run the A/C when you get there and you get a fresher scent throughout the place. Bathroom is VERY small. We would stay again if in town for a one or two night jaunt.
The home was a nicely period dated, exposed brick walls. Tip: you have to turn on the a/c to get fresh air flowing, that does the trick, plus drowns out noise for a good sleep. The apartment is very roomy for 3 people. There is tons of quality TV, although we didnt get to watch too much of it. I had no issue with the lock on main metal door, its actually more secure than a regular door. When security means alot you notice these things.
We asked Jay for close by local food. He recommended Cajun Seafood. Since it was so close we walked to it. The locals were lined up so we knew it was going to be good crawfish and it didn't disappoint. Its to-go only so we brought it back and watched some HBO tv.
Next day we were walking to a close by nightclub Jay was on his way out so he offered us a ride.
Considering when we 1st arrived we got there over an hour late (maybe 2hrs) Jay was still there to greet us. So he was a wonderful, attentive host. Overall the entire NOLA experience was awesome!
(Chateau d'if) Jay was a good host; he gave us the number of a very reliable cabby (a rare commodity we would later discover) and had the place ready for us when we arrived: complete with towels and clean sheets. This was heavenly after driving through the night to arrive! Except for the initial introduction, Jay left us alone, which was fine for us, as NOLA had too much going on for us to spend much time at the house anyways.
The unit was comfortable, though a little worn and could use some touch-ups. We were surprised that there was no second bedroom (just a bed behind the couch in the picture). The tv has been upgraded to a flatscreen and there is a roku with access to anything you might want to watch, which was a fantastic break from all the running around and saved us the trouble of renting a movie.
The furniture has been updated since the photos were taken. He has two couches now, both are very comfortable.
I feel we got what we paid for; the accommodation is a great value for the price! Not a unit I'd necessarily want to spend a lot of time in, but a great little place to put up sore feet! It could have been a little cleaner, but since we didn't have to pay a cleaning fee, its kind of hard to complain.

Ok, about me I'm a proud born & raised New Orleanian who loves meeting new people, exchanging interesting stories, cheering on the Saints (Who Dat?), and simply having a good time. I believe there is humor in nearly all we do. I'm well traveled, outgoing and friendly really look at my pics lol!I have walked the stairs of the Acropolis in Athens; tasted a grain of sand at the base of the Pyramids on the Gaza Strip; tossed a U.S penny off the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris; and partied all night in Bangkok like a hip-hop mogul with $80. I have gotten lost in Rome; hitchhiked a ride to Vatican City; eaten coca leaves and enjoyed the beer in Bogota; and had jerk chicken and Red Stripe in Montego Bay. I have sailed the canals of Amsterdam; partied in Cancun and rode scooters & snorkled in Cozumel and almost got hustled by a cabbie in San Jose, CR. Lastly, I survived Mardi Gras in Nawlins w/ no hangover...Amazing! As a Airbnb host, I look forward to extending "The Big Easy" experience to my guests. Stay at The Monte Cristo or The Casa Blanca (Located directly next door). Check them out I might just have the space for you.
