The Chalet is the old stable, it has been renovated with care using hemp plaster and sheeps wool insulation in the attic. It is open plan and completely self contained accommodation, it has a small yet fully equipped kitchen. The chalet is perfect for two people, although it does have a double futon in the living area which will sleep children or another couple.
There are very steep Swiss style chalet stairs to the mezzanine open plan bedroom.
the chalet is available on a weekly basis, In winter on a two day basis.
There is free wifi in the restaurant which can be used daily and is just next door.
All bedding/towels are provided and breakfast is available on request.
It is situated in the grounds of our restaurant and B&B. It has a pretty patio with outdoor seating and guests have the opportunity to wander in the spacious gardens and avail of the lovely food from the award winning Restaurant nearby.
The gardens are full of indigenous shrubs, exotic plants, herbs and vegetables. The Seasonal Restaurant is open all day for delicious home grown, local & organic produce & serves award winning vegetarian food and sea food. Please note during high season we accept weekly Saturday to Saturday bookings only
Lorna is a teacher of Egyptian belly dance & a food and short story writer; she, her family and staff are always ready to spend time with guests on any thing from exciting activities in the area, to identifying the rare herbs and plants in the gardens, discussing specialized meals for people with dietary needs. Lorna could give an impromptu dance performance at the end of the evening. The place has a large selection of books, art work.
The views from the windows are of The Slieve Mish Mountains [1000 feet] to the north; Castlemaine Harbour & the Magillacuddy Reeks to the south. Just follow the mountain stream along the garden for great hill walking. Castlemaine harbour, the old pier with its exceptional wild life and fishing is a brisk 30 minute walk from the house. Six miles away, Inch beach is an exceptional focal point for walking plus it is a green flag beach with professionally taught water sports.

Distances are greater than you think here and roads are narrow..the smaller car works best!
we prefer arrivals to be before 9pm and we are happy to serve a later dinner if we are informed in advance.
in summer there is long light and in winter the country roads can be very dark already at 5pm so allow time to arrive safely. We are a destination well worth lingering at and enjoying the food, books and (URL HIDDEN) relax this is your holiday!

Lorna is a teacher of Egyptian dance, a vegetarian and wholefood cook a short story writer[ author of The Phoenix Cookbook "A Culinary Adventure" and a youth and community worker. The Phoenix was established twenty years ago by her and her husband Billy who is a collector of jazz music. The house is a renovated farmhouse full of books and musical intruments, an open fire, solar panels, natural stone walls, hemp plaster and unusual decorations and antiques from Lornas world travels. The garden is a mixture of wild and cultivated plants and secret places to sit and contemplate as well as a glass house and a fantastic vegetable patch. Lorna and her staff are always ready to spend time with guests on any thing from exciting activities in the area, to identifying the rare herbs and plants in the gardens or discussing food, world travels, films, books and art. Lorna lived in Switzerland for many years and speaks Swiss german and could even give an impromptu dance performance at the end of the evening.
