Unique 2BR, 2BA apartment in an old tobacco factory building. Perfect setup for two couples or a family. Across the street from the performing arts center (DPAC) and the Durham Bulls ballpark. Easy access to restaurants, bars, the art scene & Duke.

The Space

MASTER BEDROOM: queen bed, attached full bath with tub/shower combo
SECOND BEDROOM: can be extra lounge space with couch and desk, or made up with queen bed. Full bath with tub/shower combo across hall.
KITCHEN: fully equipped, modern appliances including dishwasher & microwave, good selection of cookware and dining ware, coffee and tea
DINING AREA: seats six
LIVING ROOM: Couch, two loveseats, comfy chair. TV with basic cable, Netflix, Hulu+, iPod dock, stereo, Xbox.

The common areas of the apartment have 15-foot ceilings, huge windows, two-foot-deep window seats set into the thick exterior walls, and exposed brick and ductwork. It's not a cookie-cutter place, and hopefully you'll enjoy Rhody's work (he's an artist) hanging on the walls too.

Guest Access

The apartment is set up with everything you need - from fresh linens to maps and local recommendations. You're free to use our washer/dryer, basic pantry staples, coffee/tea stash, and wifi network too.

Interaction with Guests

If the calendar shows the apartment is available, we're staying elsewhere. It's all yours! We're almost always reachable by text or email if needed.

The Neighborhood

This is a dynamic, popular area in rapidly-changing Durham. It's unusual in Southern cities to find such a walkable neighborhood.

Our favorites within a half mile include Toast paninoteca, Mateo tapas, Whiskey bar, Alley 26 cocktails, Beyu Caffe, the Pinhook lounge, Bull City Burgers, Loaf Bakery, Pizzeria Toro, Manbites Dog Theater, the Carolina Theater, Fullsteam Brewery, the Pit Barbeque, Cave Taureau, Geer Street Garden, Dame's Chicken and Waffles, the Durham Farmer's Market, Dos Perros, Cocoa (email hidden), and Parker and Otis.

The American Tobacco Trail, two pharmacies, the YMCA, and a CrossFit gym are also within a few blocks, in case you need help to process all that delicious food and liquor :)

Getting around

CAR: A parking garage is about a block away, and we can provide one free pass upon request. The entrance to NC 147 (Durham Freeway) is nearby.

BUS: We are less than two blocks from Durham station. There you can catch city buses or the free Bull City Connector (stops around downtown and at both Duke campuses)- it runs every 15-20 minutes.

TRAIN: The Amtrak station is about a half mile from the apartment.

Other Things to Note

ACCESSIBILITY: This apartment was the ADA unit originally, so there are some wheelchair-friendly features. The building and our parking garage have accessible elevators. Get in touch if you need details about fixtures, clearance, etc.

ALLERGIES: we have a small dog; the apartment is scrupulously clean, but not right for you if you have severe allergies.

NOISE: Like most of downtown Durham, we're right next to frequently used train tracks - trains regularly pass by blowing their horns, and man they are loud! As in any urban place, there is also noise from buses, people talking outside, music during performances, etc. The old windows rattle in the wind, and the exposed pipes make weird swishy water noises. We're used to it, but noise-sensitive people might prefer a different place.

PETS: in some situations we might consider allowing a dog (sorry we can't accommodate cats, Jen's allergic) - get in touch for details.

  • This was our first extended visit to the Raleigh Durham area. We really enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment. The hosts provided many amenities that made our time in Durham so comfortable. My family (husband and 2 college aged kids) and I highly recommend Jen and Rhody's loft.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Jen and Rhody's beautiful apartment. The apartment itself was spacious, clean, and welcoming -- complete with thoughtful details like coffee, emergency toiletries for guests, and a guide to their favorite spots in Durham. Add to that its perfect location and Jen and Rhody's friendly welcome... it was a truly first-rate experience.

  • My first Air B&B experience was a great one thanks to Jen and Rhody. Not only was their apartment spacious, clean, and comfortable, as hosts they are very well organized and helpful. You can't beat the location of their apartment for all things Durham and I can't imagine finding more considerate hosts. When in Durham, stay here.

  • This is a great modern apartment in a newly refurbished tobacco warehouse right in the heart of downtown Durham. The apartment was spacious, very clean, and very sophisticated. Jen was really easy to work with and very friendly as well. The location was perfect and we could walk or take a short drive to everything that Durham has to offer. I would definitely stay there again, and strongly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Durham. I hope to visit Durham again in the summer and would love to stay here again. What a terrific host you are Jen! Thanks again, Chad.

  • Amazing location near restaurants, cafes, and freeways, very friendly hosts, and extremely comfortable and well-appointed home. Our family of 4 had a wonderful time in the apartment, plenty of space to spread out, and were sad to leave. The latest I heard the train was around 10pm or 11pm, but I don't remember hearing anything else after that. Would highly recommend for couples or families who is staying in Durham.

About
We love traveling and hosting travelers, and we've met great people through both Airbnb and c.o.u.c.hsurfing. We started hosting in Austin TX, where we previously lived. Jen is a nurse who likes distance running, cooking and reading depressing biographies. Rhody works as an artist and also plays the banjo, studies ninjitsu, and mixes a mean cocktail. We have a very sweet, slightly neurotic little terrier, who started out as a foster dog in our animal-rescue days. We'll make sure you have everything you need as a guest. Hope to see in Durham soon :)
