Casa Lenita is perfect for art and culture lovers. Comfortable bed, private bath, internet, studio use, terrace kitchen, Parroquia views. Easy walking to centro and everywhere else, close to restaurants and organic market.
Conde Nast named it the Best City in the World. Beautiful San Miguel de Allende, colonial gem in the heart of Mexico. Your guestroom awaits you at Casa Lenita, with your own private bath, terrace with trees and plants, comfy furniture, privacy and tranquility, plus a new outdoor kitchen. We share the street entrance, but your space is upstairs and separate. (sorry, no handicap access) Stairs to the azotea provide 360 views of the Parroquia and surrounding hills, church domes and gorgeous star-filled night skies. Azotea is spanish for rooftop, where you'll find furniture and plants, a sweet spot for the first morning coffee, yoga, reading, cocktails and fireworks watching.
Your room features a kingsize bed that can also be made up as twins, lockable closet for your valuables, Guatemalan and Mexican textiles and art by your host. Your private in-suite bathroom includes shower, toilet, sink, decorated with Talavera tiles. Included are a lovely collection of Virgin of Guadalupes and a library of books by regional artists and more. Coffee, tea, fruit available, and coffee maker is in your room. Always plenty of filtered water for your use.
Glass doors on two sides let in lots of light, views to luscious trees and plants on the terrace. The only downside is that you just might never want to leave. But leave you must, if you want to enjoy San Miguel and it's shops, galleries, museums, concerts, restaurants, jardines, parades, dancers, musicians, all the things that make this the best destination in colonial Mexico.
This safe and lively neighborhood is Colonia Guadalupe, where kids play in the street and everyone greets you with a smile. Recently we were officially designated as The Guadalupe Arts District, and you will find beautiful colorful murals on the walls as you stroll around the streets. If you would like, I can book you a full or half day tour of the studios of our artists in this Arts District. I will also find you a workshop or class to fit your needs, be they art, yoga, meditation, spanish or something else. Need a good masseuse, acupuncture, haircut? Just let me know and I'll get you the info. Want to create your own art, write your novel, present a workshop? My studio is sometimes available to you for whatever you wish to work on.
We're a flat walk to both Centro and Fabrica Aurora, 2 min. and just around the corner to Via Organica market, restaurant, and El Pato art store. The tienda on our corner has produce, and just about anything you need in a pinch.
Two blocks away you can catch a bus or a taxi if you wish to venture further.
My home is smoke-free, pet-free, scent-free and vegetarian; if you have allergies, this is a healthy and perfect environment for you.
In addition to your room: The terrace offers a kitchen for making some of your own meals, plus comfy furniture for dining and lounging. And above all that, the rooftop offers views of the city, super sofa and chairs, a dining table, covered from the sun and surrounded by plants.
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes I'm here, sometimes not. House manager is on duty if I'm not. When I am here, nteraction with guests only as they wish. Guests have entire second floor, with as much privacy as they desire. As for me personally, I'm usually in the studio working, so have less time to hang out than those who are on vacation.
Our neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, has been officially designated as The Arts District. This means there is a large number of artists living and working here, there are street murals and street festivals happening and changing the face and feeling of the community. And last but not least, there is an art store, an organic market and restaurant, and other necessities like hardware stores, tiendas for any kinds of groceries, and we're close to the galleries and stores in the Fabrica Aurora.
Urban bus stops 2 blocks from my house, taxis easy to find. First class bus terminal for other cities in Mexico is about a mile away. From airports, you can come to San Miguel via this terminal, on either ETN or Primera Plus, both luxury buses. Or, you can schedule an airport shuttle with BajioGo, whether you fly into Mexico City, Leon, or Queretaro.
Other Things to Note
Please try to check-in is before 6 pm. If your flight doesn't allow for that, please let me know in advance and I'll try to make arrangements or recommend a hotel for your first overnight.
No smoking, no pets, no children. There might not be a lot of places in San Miguel where you can stop worrying about your allergies to pet dander and cigarette smoke. Your consideration of perfume-free is greatly appreciated. Your little corner of the world here does not include a party house, i.e. bringing home "new friends" to spend the night is not permitted. If they have not rented on airbnb, they are "strangers" and not allowed in my home. You are expected to keep noise levels to a minimum, especially after 11 pm. for the sake of my sanity, other guests and my neighbors. I prefer quiet tenants; artists, writers, filmmakers love it here. Kitchen privileges can be discussed, prior to your arrival.
From the beginning, Lena was gracious and very helpful to me as I attempted to learn about transportation into San Miguel de Allende; she encouraged me to ask questions and that helped me to feel confident in traveling alone to a place where I'd never been! Lena provided lots of valuable information after I arrived so that I could find my way around the town, get a taxi, do my laundry, enjoy great food in cool restaurants. She has a wonderful, relaxed lightness and yet is very attentive to detail. The neighborhood is full of beautiful and interesting murals; there is an organic market and restaurant/cafe two short blocks away and a couple of great little grocery stores. The center of town is only four blocks away.
I had a wonderful stay at Lena's. The house is beautiful, full of art, and has a good location near the historical district. Lena is gracious and very helpful.
Lena made us feel very welcome and provided us with a wealth of useful local information. The room was clean, quiet and quirky. loved it. Would definately recommend staying at Lena's.
Lena answered all my emails very promptly, months before my arrival in Mexico.
Like, what is to best way to get there. Etc.
She made me feel welcome when I arrived.
Her home is exactly as pictured and full of her art work. Her colors are harmonious
and calming as well. She has worked very hard at creating a beautiful casita.
I would certainly recommend Lena's lovely home.
Lena's home is absolutely beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful. The gallery of her fine art is exquisite and inspirational! She is a most welcoming, gracious, and helpful host. I also loved her neighborhood which is considered the art district of San Miguel de Allende. Nearby are delicious restaurants, a market at the end of the block, an organic market and restaurant a few blocks away, an art supply store, and much more. Her azotea is a delightful place to relax and enjoy the views, and the Jardin is an easy, fun walk a few blocks away. Arriving back at Lena's periwinkle blue home draped in fuscia bougainvillea was continuous eye candy. The only difficult time I had at Lena's was getting out of the comfortable bed! I can hardly wait to return.
I had a great time! The house is awesome and super clean. 10 minutes walking from down town!
I highly recommend it :)
We had a delightful and restful time during our stay at Lena's home. Lena is a truely kind, generous and thoughtful host. The house felt warm, inviting and esthetically enchanting from the moment we pulled up to the front door. The Guadalupe neighborhood is quite yet alive with multi generational families, vibrant murals and daily San Miguel life. Days are active but nights are tranquil.
A gorgeous carved wood door and bogenvillia plant grace the entrance of the home. Since Lena was doing errands when we arrived, her housekeeper greeted us with kindness.
We stayed in the "Green Room" which was well appointed and combined the best of San Miguel's colonial Spanish architecture with a wonderful burst of folk art flare.
Each detail of Lena's hospitality made us feel special and welcome; a basket of fruit and snacks in our room to munch on, umbrellas waiting at the bottom of the stairs during a rainy day, Lena's special recommendations and easy way of being.
We now consider this the only place we would stay when we return to San Miguel. We whole heartedly recommend Lena and her home. Thank you Lena for allowing us to visit.

Artist for many years, expat from Santa Fe, N.M. living full time in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I'm an easy guest and some people say a great host. I love meeting new people from all over the world. I don't love big groups, don't party, non-smoker, no drugs, nice radical grandmotherly cosmic space-explorer artist type. I'm happy to show you my San Miguel if you are new to the scene.
Sagittarian, feminist, flexitarian, borderline Buddhist / spiritual being just being here now, I love galleries, museums, cultural experiences of any kind. I know the art scene in San Miguel and will happily give you a tour of our neighborhood, the newly designated Arts District of Colonia Guadalupe. My rooms are like your own private artist residencies, so come and explore, create, let San Miguel inspire you. "All art, all the time!"
