About this listing
Formerly called Dreaming in Green, this room features a traditional Mexican fireplace, twin beds that can be a king, computer desk, private bath with shower, all in beautiful Colonia Guadalupe, the arts district of San Miguel. 6 blocks to the jardin.
Formerly called Dreaming in Green, La Chimenea includes your own private bath, a community terrace with outdoor kitchen, surrounded by trees and plants, comfy furniture, privacy and tranquility. We share the street entrance, but your space is upstairs and separate. (sorry, no handicap access) Stairs to the azotea provide 360 views of the Parroquia and surrounding hills, church domes and gorgeous star-filled night skies. Azotea is spanish for rooftop, where you'll find a comfortable sofa, dining table, shade – it’s a sweet spot for the first morning coffee, yoga, reading, cocktails and fireworks watching.
Your room includes a king size bed that can be made up as two twins. (let us know which you prefer at least a week before arrival) Tastefully decorated with Guatemalan and Mexican textiles and art by your host, it also features a large and lively collection of Virgen de Guadalupe images. Traditional hand-built Mexican fireplace, (called a Chimenea), computer desk, bed-side lamps and plenty of books to read.
La Chimenea has glass doors on two sides, for fresh air and sunlight...you just might never want to leave. But leave you must, if you want to see San Miguel and it's shops, galleries, museums, jardines, cobblestone streets, parades, dancers, musicians, all the things that make this the best destination in colonial Mexico.
Conde Nast named it the Best City in the World. Beautiful San Miguel de Allende, colonial gem in the heart of Mexico. My home is in a safe and lively neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, where kids play in the street and everyone greets you with a smile. We have been officially designated The Arts District, and you will find beautiful colorful murals on the walls as you stroll around the streets. If you like, I can book you a full or half day tour of the studios of our artists in this Arts District. I can find you a workshop or class to fit your needs, be they art, yoga, or meditation. Need a good masseuse, acupuncture, dentist, or something else? Just let me know and I'll get you the info.
We're a flat walk to both Centro and Fabrica Aurora, 2 min. and just around the corner to Via Organica market, restaurant, and El Pato art store. The tienda on our corner has produce, and just about anything you need in a pinch. Two blocks away you can catch a bus or a taxi if you wish to venture further. You also have use of my telephone for calling taxis, making reservations or for emergencies.
My home is smoke-free, pet-free and scent-free; if you have allergies, this is a healthy and perfect environment for you.
In addition to your room: The terrace offers a mini- kitchen with coffee pot and toaster oven, plus comfy furniture for dining and lounging. And above all that, the rooftop offers views of the city, super sofa and chairs, a dining table, covered from the sun and surrounded by plants.
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes I'm here, sometimes not. House manager is on duty if I'm not. When I am here, nteraction with guests only as they wish. Guests have entire second floor, with as much privacy as they desire. As for me personally, I'm usually in the studio working, so have less time to hang out than those who are on vacation.
Our neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, has been officially designated The Arts District. This means there is a large number of artists living and working here, there are street murals and street festivals happening and changing the face and feeling of the community. And last but not least, there is an art store, an organic market and restaurant, and other necessities like hardware stores, tiendas for any kinds of groceries, and we're close to the galleries and stores in the Fabrica Aurora.
Urban bus stops 2 blocks from my house, taxis easy to find. First class bus terminal for other cities in Mexico is about a mile away. From airports, you can come to San Miguel via this terminal, on either ETN or Primera Plus, both luxury buses. Or, you can schedule an airport shuttle with BajioGo, whether you fly into Mexico City, Leon, or Queretaro.
Sorry, there's no parking except on the street.
Other Things to Note
Please try to check-in is before 6 pm. If your flight doesn't allow for that, please let me know in advance and I'll try to make arrangements or recommend a hotel for your first overnight.
No smoking, no pets, no children. There might not be a lot of places in San Miguel where you can stop worrying about your allergies to pet dander and cigarette smoke. Your consideration of perfume-free is greatly appreciated. Your little corner of the world here does not include a party house, i.e. hosting friends here is not permitted. Please keep noise levels to a minimum, early mornings and at night after 10, for the sake of my sanity and the other guests. I prefer quiet tenants; artists, writers, filmmakers love it here.
Lena's home is delightful, reflecting much thought and care. Our space had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Lena really has thought through all the little details that help the traveler navigate through San Miguel. The home is in a great location with a great organic food store and restaurant nearby.
Lena's place is fabulous! Everything was wonderful and she was the perfect host. I didn't think it could get any better until I spent time with her. She is a wonderful person!!!
From the beginning, Lena was gracious and very helpful to me as I attempted to learn about transportation into San Miguel de Allende; she encouraged me to ask questions and that helped me to feel confident in traveling alone to a place where I'd never been! Lena provided lots of valuable information after I arrived so that I could find my way around the town, get a taxi, do my laundry, enjoy great food in cool restaurants. She has a wonderful, relaxed lightness and yet is very attentive to detail. The neighborhood is full of beautiful and interesting murals; there is an organic market and restaurant/cafe two short blocks away and a couple of great little grocery stores. The center of town is only four blocks away.
I had a wonderful stay at Lena's. The house is beautiful, full of art, and has a good location near the historical district. Lena is gracious and very helpful.
Lena made us feel very welcome and provided us with a wealth of useful local information. The room was clean, quiet and quirky. loved it. Would definately recommend staying at Lena's.
Lena answered all my emails very promptly, months before my arrival in Mexico.
Like, what is to best way to get there. Etc.
She made me feel welcome when I arrived.
Her home is exactly as pictured and full of her art work. Her colors are harmonious
and calming as well. She has worked very hard at creating a beautiful casita.
I would certainly recommend Lena's lovely home.

About the Host, Lena
Artist for many years, expat from Santa Fe, N.M. living full time in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I'm an easy guest and some people say a great host. I love meeting new people from all over the world. I don't love big groups, don't party, non-smoker, no drugs, nice radical grandmotherly cosmic space-explorer artist type. I'm happy to show you my San Miguel if you are new to the scene.
Sagittarian, feminist, flexitarian, borderline Buddhist / spiritual being just being here now, I love galleries, museums, cultural experiences of any kind. I know the art scene in San Miguel and will happily give you a tour of our neighborhood, the newly designated Arts District of Colonia Guadalupe. My rooms are like your own private artist residencies, so come and explore, create, let San Miguel inspire you. "All art, all the time!"
