The space

Heavenly Hideaway includes your own private bath, a community terrace with outdoor kitchen, surrounded by trees and plants, comfy furniture, privacy and tranquility. We share the street entrance, but your space is upstairs and separate. (sorry, no handicap access) Stairs to the azotea provide 360 views of the Parroquia and surrounding hills, church domes and gorgeous star-filled night skies. Azotea is spanish for rooftop, where you'll find a comfortable sofa, dining table, shade – it’s a sweet spot for the first morning coffee, yoga, reading, cocktails and fireworks watching.

Your room includes a king size bed that can be made up as two twins. (let us know which you prefer at least a week before arrival) Tastefully decorated with Guatemalan and Mexican textiles and art by your host, it also features a large and lively collection of Virgen de Guadalupe images. Traditional hand-built Mexican fireplace, computer desk, closet, bed-side lamps and plenty of books to read.

Heavenly hideaway has glass doors on two sides, for fresh air and just might never want to leave. But leave you must, if you want to see San Miguel and it's shops, galleries, museums, jardines, cobblestone streets, parades, dancers, musicians, all the things that make this the best destination in colonial Mexico.

Conde Nast named it the Best City in the World. Beautiful San Miguel de Allende, colonial gem in the heart of Mexico. My home is in a safe and lively neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, where kids play in the street and everyone greets you with a smile. We have been officially designated The Arts District, and you will find beautiful colorful murals on the walls as you stroll around the streets. If you like, I can book you a full or half day tour of the studios of our artists in this Arts District. I can find you a workshop or class to fit your needs, be they art, yoga, or meditation. Need a massage, acupuncture, dentist, or something else? Just let me know and I'll get you the info.

We're a flat walk to both Centro and Fabrica Aurora, 2 min. and just around the corner is Mi Bistrock, Via Organica market, restaurant, and El Pato art store. The tienda on our corner has produce, and just about anything you need in a pinch. Two blocks away you can catch a bus or a taxi if you wish to venture further. You also have use of my telephone for calling taxis, making reservations or for emergencies.

My home is smoke-free, pet-free and scent-free; if you have allergies, this is a healthy and perfect environment for you.

Guest access

In addition to your room: The terrace offers a mini- kitchen with coffee pot, microwave, and toaster oven, plus comfy furniture for dining and lounging. And above all that, the rooftop offers views of the city, super sofa and chairs, a dining table, covered from the sun and surrounded by plants.

Interaction with guests

Sometimes I'm here, sometimes not. House manager is on duty if I'm not. When I am here, nteraction with guests only as they wish. Guests have entire second floor, with as much privacy as they desire. As for me personally, I'm usually in the studio working, so have less time to hang out than those who are on vacation.

The neighborhood

Our neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, has been officially designated The Arts District. This means there is a large number of artists living and working here, there are street murals and street festivals happening and changing the face and feeling of the community. And last but not least, there is an art store, an organic market and restaurant, and other necessities like hardware stores, tiendas for any kinds of groceries, and we're close to the galleries and stores in the Fabrica Aurora.

Getting around

Urban bus stops 2 blocks from my house, taxis easy to find. First class bus terminal for other cities in Mexico is about a mile away. From airports, you can come to San Miguel via this terminal, on either ETN or Primera Plus, both luxury buses. Or, you can schedule an airport shuttle with BajioGo, whether you fly into Mexico City, Leon, or Queretaro.
Sorry, there's no parking except on the street.

Other things to note

Please try to check-in before 6 pm. If your flight doesn't allow for that, please let me know in advance and I'll try to make arrangements or recommend a hotel for your first overnight.

No smoking, no pets, no children. There might not be a lot of places in San Miguel where you can stop worrying about your allergies to pet dander and cigarette smoke. Your consideration of perfume-free is greatly appreciated. Your little corner of the world here does not include a party house, i.e. hosting friends here is not permitted. Please keep noise levels to a minimum, early mornings and at night after 10, for the sake of my sanity and the other guests. I prefer quiet tenants; artists, writers, filmmakers love it here.

Lena's place is just the best in every way - beautiful, artful, close to the Centro, close to organic food shopping, friendly, great assistance from Lena as to where to do/see/find everything. She is a wonderful host and makes your stay better than being at home!!! Both rooms have Mexican-style, colorful furnishings, the terrace kitchen is perfect for breakfast (or other meals), and the third floor overlooking San Miguel is the perfect spot for a late afternoon vino/cocktail/beer (or for early morning meditation). I wouldn't stay anywhere else in San Miguel de Allende!!!

Lena's home is in a great location-- close to the center by a 10 minute walk and yet very private and restful behind the walls. You know you're in an artist's home by the design, colors, and details; the indoor/outdoor kitchen was wonderful and thoughtfully stocked with everything I needed for breakfast. Lena also provided a guidebook of suggestions and maps-- I think I went everywhere on her list! All in all, a wonderful two weeks-- I am so looking forward to coming back next time and staying longer.

Casa Lenita is in the "arts district" of the Guadalupe district of SMA. It is a short walk down interesting streets to the Jardin, the centre of town. The Bibliotecka is on the way and a great place to see what's happening around town. Close by to Lena's is a resto that initially was a food truck prior to moving off the street to a secluded courtyard where neighbours and new comers alike meet for great food in a friendly atmosphere at attractive prices. There are many places to visit dependinng on one's interest. We enjoyed browsing the art galleries, catching a country blues concert and the many restos serving up a variety of fare. Coing back to Casa Lenita was a delight. This was our second visit. Lena has decorated her home beautifully and is ready to give guests a helping hand in plannning their stay. You can't beat Casa Lenita!

Our stay at Casa Lenita was perfect in every way! Lena was a most gracious host. As former Airbnb hosts ourselves, we understand the preparation and conscientious application that it takes. In the true spirit of the Mexican culture, Lena was warm, inviting, helpful, while also respecting our privacy, and hers as well. She personally drove us to places we'd have difficulty finding, shared several meals with us, and even arranged social gatherings with mutual friends of ours. The accommodations were everything and more that were advertised on the site. Comfortable bed, more than adequate hot water, clean, well stocked kitchen, great views from the rooftop terrace, and privacy. Her home is perfectly situated within walking distance to everything in town. Just two blocks away is a terrific organic grocer and restaurant featuring all locally produced food products. With a warm and helpful staff, a rooftop terrace, we ate there almost every morning. Overall, I cannot recommend Casa Lenita highly enough.

This home is unique, beautiful, comfortable with lots of private space to relax in and the terrace adds to the beauty of the space with warm sunshine in the cool morning. I loved staying here surrounded by the host's creative art and vibrant colors of Mexico. A special find!

This is the second time I have stayed at Lena's and it is a beautiful home. She has updated the kitchen since my last stay - the mosaic work is so colorful and the larger refrigerator is very handy. The neighborhood has a grocery store, shops, and restaurants which are close by. There are so many things to do and see in San Miguel you will not be bored. But if you want to relax in your room, on the terrace or up on the rooftop you can do that too. Having a fireplace in the room was wonderful on the cool evenings and chilly mornings. Lena is a wonderful and caring host and is happy to answer your questions and make recommendations. She is an accomplished artist and it is a treat to be surrounded by her art. I'm sure I'll be back for another visit soon.

Artist for many years, expat from Santa Fe, N.M. living full time in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I'm an easy guest and some people say a great host. I love meeting new people from all over the world. I don't love big groups, don't party, non-smoker, no drugs, nice radical grandmotherly cosmic space-explorer artist type. I'm happy to show you my San Miguel if you are new to the scene.
Sagittarian, feminist, flexitarian, borderline Buddhist / spiritual being just being here now, I love galleries, museums, cultural experiences of any kind. I know the art scene in San Miguel and will happily give you a tour of our neighborhood, the newly designated Arts District of Colonia Guadalupe. My rooms are like your own private artist residencies, so come and explore, create, let San Miguel inspire you. "All art, all the time!"
