This colorful terrace room features a traditional Mexican fireplace for winter, ceiling fan for summer, twin beds that can be a king, computer desk, private bath w/shower, closet& shelves for your stuff. Terrace kitchen with coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, electric tea kettle & hotplate. Above it, an outdoor rooftop living room with 360 deg. views. All in beautiful Colonia Guadalupe, the Arts District of SMA. 6 block easy walk to the Jardin. Come fall in love with our spectacular town!

The space

Heavenly Hideaway includes your own private bath, a community terrace with outdoor kitchen, surrounded by trees and plants, comfy furniture, privacy and tranquility. We share the street entrance, but your space is upstairs and separate. (sorry, no handicap access) Stairs to the azotea provide 360 views of the Parroquia and surrounding hills, church domes and gorgeous star-filled night skies. Azotea is spanish for rooftop, where you'll find a comfortable sofa, dining table, shade – it’s a sweet spot for the first morning coffee, yoga, reading, cocktails and fireworks watching.

Your room includes a king size bed that can be made up as two twins. (let us know which you prefer at least a week before arrival) Tastefully decorated with Guatemalan and Mexican textiles and art by your host, it also features a large and lively collection of Virgen de Guadalupe images. Traditional hand-built Mexican fireplace, computer desk, closet, bed-side lamps and plenty of books to read.

Heavenly hideaway has glass doors on two sides, for fresh air and sunlight...you just might never want to leave. But leave you must, if you want to see San Miguel and it's shops, galleries, museums, jardines, cobblestone streets, parades, dancers, musicians, all the things that make this the best destination in colonial Mexico.

Conde Nast named it the Best City in the World. Beautiful San Miguel de Allende, colonial gem in the heart of Mexico. My home is in a safe and lively neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, where kids play in the street and everyone greets you with a smile. We have been officially designated The Arts District, and you will find beautiful colorful murals on the walls as you stroll around the streets. If you like, I can book you a full or half day tour of the studios of our artists in this Arts District. I can find you a workshop or class to fit your needs, be they art, yoga, or meditation. Need a massage, acupuncture, dentist, or something else? Just let me know and I'll get you the info.

We're a flat walk to both Centro and Fabrica Aurora, 2 min. and just around the corner is Mi Bistrock, Via Organica market, restaurant, and El Pato art store. The tienda on our corner has produce, and just about anything you need in a pinch. Two blocks away you can catch a bus or a taxi if you wish to venture further. You also have use of my telephone for calling taxis, making reservations or for emergencies.

My home is smoke-free, pet-free and scent-free; if you have allergies, this is a healthy and perfect environment for you.

Guest access

In addition to your room: The terrace offers a mini- kitchen with coffee pot, microwave, and toaster oven, plus comfy furniture for dining and lounging. And above all that, the rooftop offers views of the city, super sofa and chairs, a dining table, covered from the sun and surrounded by plants.

Interaction with guests

Sometimes I'm here, sometimes not. House manager is on duty if I'm not. When I am here, nteraction with guests only as they wish. Guests have entire second floor, with as much privacy as they desire. As for me personally, I'm usually in the studio working, so have less time to hang out than those who are on vacation.

Other things to note

Please try to check-in before 6 pm. If your flight doesn't allow for that, please let me know in advance and I'll try to make arrangements or recommend a hotel for your first overnight.

No smoking, no pets, no children. There might not be a lot of places in San Miguel where you can stop worrying about your allergies to pet dander and cigarette smoke. Your consideration of perfume-free is greatly appreciated. Your little corner of the world here does not include a party house, i.e. hosting friends here is not permitted. Please keep noise levels to a minimum, early mornings and at night after 10, for the sake of my sanity and the other guests. I prefer quiet tenants; artists, writers, filmmakers love it here.
No late arrivals unless cleared with host.

Lena's place is incredible! Beautifully decorated and colorful and comfortable. Lena is so helpful and was a delight to spend time with in San Miguel de Allende. The neighborhood is filled with colorful murals and is beautiful to walk around in the morning or evening. It is about a 15 minute walk from El Centro, but was quiet and safe at night. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend to all my friends!

Very safe, clean, nicely designed with beautiful colored tile work, lovely rooftop patio, shared kitchenette. Really nice host ! Walking distance from historical district. Lots of murals throughout the neighborhood and a nice organic cafe and market close by. Wonderful, affordable alternative to staying in a hotel!

Lena's casita is like a condense foretaste of Mexicana before heading out exploring the cultural riches of San Miguel. Then, in turn, a safe haven at the end of the day. The accommodation and facilities are perfect, stylish and practical, the kitchenette is suitably equipped, Wi-Fi excellent if not out of order, but promptly fixed in case of break down which happened during my week-long stay. The breezy upper terrace is a gift from heaven after long days of walking in the din from where you can watch the town slowly light up including a fair view of San Miguel Parroquia in its nightly glory.

Wow! Lena's place is like a colorful mosaic fantasy in Mexican Talavera design. She took an old building and renovated it with a charming rooftop palapa and a 2nd floor courtyard and open-air kitchen. The rental rooms open out to the courtyard which shelters the place from the noise of the street. So the room itself is wonderfully quiet. FYI - the dogs and bells and screaming kids in the streets of San Miguel take some getting used to. A little white noise in the room covers it all up except for the round of fireworks that started at 6 am one Sunday. Nothing would drown that out. One must just have patience in Mexico as dogs are just allowed to bark as long as they want. BUT, overall, Lena's place is so charming that it brings a smile to your face to open the door. It's cool when it's hot out and warm enough on cool nights. Her attention to detail and hospitality covers every possible need or want in the place. Surely she must have lived in the room she rented us at one point bc nothing has been forgotten to make it a livable space for guests. She even provided breakfast food for us and a yoga mat. Her wifi is fast and reliable. There are some great food stores and restaurants just a block or 2 away. The pizza at Querencia is excellent and the produce at Tienda Gils and Via Organica are great. Just avoid the overdressed guy who plays Spanish guitar at Via Organica...he's a grumpy old fart. (Fruncido is the word in Spanish!) Thanks so much to Lena - though we never met her as she was out of town - for everything. We will definitely return!

Lena was a fabulous host, very thoughtful and attentive. The location was in a nice neighborhood close enough to walk to almost anything you would want to do but enough outside the center to feel like you were going home at the end of the day. I would definitely recommend!

Lena User ProfileLena is a superhost.

Artist for many years, expat from Santa Fe, N.M. living full time in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I'm an easy guest and some people say a great host. I love meeting new people from all over the world. I don't love big groups, don't party, non-smoker, no drugs, nice radical grandmotherly cosmic space-explorer artist type. I'm happy to show you my San Miguel if you are new to the scene.
Sagittarian, feminist, flexitarian, borderline Buddhist / spiritual being just being here now, I love galleries, museums, cultural experiences of any kind. I know the art scene in San Miguel and will happily give you a tour of our neighborhood, the newly designated Arts District of Colonia Guadalupe. My rooms are like your own private artist residencies, so come and explore, create, let San Miguel inspire you. "All art, all the time!"
