Overall, the check-in went nicely. Even though we were initially checked into the wrong room, we were sent to a correct room with an extra bed provided. Location is ok, with 20 bus rides to Manhattan. Great price for the value. The host provided us with a cake on new year day so that's a plus. Facilities can be improved though, with the ceiling light going dark on our second last day. The room can also be a bit cold at night.
Mari's house was good for the easy-going travellers who is looking for the place based on their budget. Although I couldn't met Mari that much during 10 days, but she generously tried to fix the problems whenever I asked. And some tips for next guests : 1) please aware that NJ transit, especially bus no.125 will not always satisfy your expectation. Add extra time for transportation on your travel plans. 2) There is one great bakery, you definitely want to check, on Palisade Avenue & 7th street. It is walkable from Mari's house.
The directions are incomplete and vague but eventually we found our way there. Not a good start for tired travellers. The location is fine but it's a 3 block walk to a 25 minute bus ride - NOT 'near Times Square' as claimed. There was a mix up so we took a room different to what we expected but then had to change again late the next night when the people who had booked that room arrived. The claims about cleanliness are exaggerated: black mould on the shower curtain, hair in the shower, my socks covered in long hairs from the floor, etc. We were disappointed that the described hosts don't actually live there. It could be good value if it was more honestly represented and cleaner. The entryway - down steep stairs loaded with electrical cables between the houses - has no light or handrail and should be addressed immediately for public safety.
Mari and her family were very accommodating! We had several delays that pushed our arrival time back to 1am, but someone had stayed awake at the house to greet us before we even knocked on the door. Thanks, Mari!
I recommend it to anyone who will visit New York and surrounding area, it is known for being easy to get and very tidy house thank you very much Mari
I have just returned from New York where I spend some days with my younger brother. As many others we did not meet Mari but she (or her husband) always answered my massages and phonecalls. The accomodation had everything we needed and fitted us perfectly. As there were 4 bedrooms (place for 8 people to sleep) we met guests from different countries and cultures. The Living room was really large and there were two dinig tables, a bigger one in the dinig room and a smaller one in the kitchen so that there was enough place for everyone wanting to sit and eat. We also appreciated there were two bathrooms. The neighboorhood was pretty quiet and it was not noisy at all, neither during the day nor in the night. The busstop is about 8 minutes away (if you walk without hurrying) and it takes about 20 minutes to get to New York City. Honestly it can take a little longer depending on traffic but we always enjoyed that little trip as we could see some of the space around the city´s center.
The room was older, but okay. The whole apartment is clean and beautiful, in the kitchen you find everything you need. It's really easy to get to the house with minibuses and from the station in NYC you can walk to many places,we used the subway only two times. We definitely recommend this place, for the price is perfect. Hope to come back one day.
