About This Listing
Guest house in Travis Heights/S. Congress area with kitchen, private bath and laundry. Has custom wood cabinets, concrete counters, new appliances, new bathroom, new and very quiet split AC/heating system, vaulted ceilings, long leaf pine floors. Approx. 450 sq. ft. French doors lead out onto deck and tree-covered yard. A wooded area is on the other side of the guest house so it is very private and quiet. The person living in the main house (me) is also very quiet. Plenty of parking on the street front of the house.
Quiet one-block street with Stacy Park at one end. 5 min. walk to S. Congress shops and restaurants (Guero's. Continental Club, food trailers, and lots of independent clothing stores), 25 minute walk to downtown or can easily catch the S. Congress Ave. bus.
Hoping to host people who are looking for a quiet comfortable retreat after exploring the nearby sights.
Couldn't be happier with our stay in James' guest house for 6 weeks during SXSW.
The place has everything needed for a comfortable stay and James gave us complete privacy while being available whenever needed.
The South Congress neighbourhood is the perfect part of Austin to be, far enough from the city but still in walking distance to some great Food Trucks, Restaurants and the main SOCO drag.
My fiancee and i stayed in James' guest house for 30 days recently and loved it! Excellent location, very comfortable place with everything you need for a short or long stay. James is a great host who was available if needed but left us to ourselves as if we had a private residence of our own. The house is very comfortable with all the amenities you need and in walking distance to S. Congress and Stacy park which is beautiful. Highly recommended
I really enjoyed my stay at the guesthouse. The location is great - very quiet but closet to SoCo and downtown. The guesthouse had everything you need for a short-term stay ( I stayed for 1 month). James was a wonderful host and was willing to help with anything I needed. I definitely recommend staying here.
I stayed here for a month and had a great time. The guest house had everything I needed - basic kitchen, washer & dryer, change of sheets, etc. The neighborhood is relaxed but only a few blocks away from South Congress. It was nice to have a backyard - I managed to work outside a few times although it was the summer so there were too many mosquitos to stay outdoors for long. James was a very welcoming host, easy to get in touch with, and quick to respond to any questions.
The guest house is in the perfect location if you wanna go to SXSW. It's just off South Congress (where you have plenty of dining and entertainment options) and just 30 min by foot from the Convention Center. Communication with James before the arrival was fast and easy. James has been a great host making sure I had all I needed.
About the Host, James
Hello there. I have lived off and on in Austin since 1998 and have owned a house here since 2005. Work has taken me away to other cities like NYC and DC but I always come back here. I particularly enjoy the laid back quality of life and accessible cultural and music scene here.
I work for a social venture which provides basic financial services to the unbanked. Before that I worked for an NGO called the World Economic Forum which had me traveling fairly extensively overseas.
With what free time I have, I do a bit of running, gardening, playing guitar and piano, and reading.
