The Space

"La casa del nespolo" is a nice apartament with a little garden near San Pietro (close to Borgo, Prati). One double room, living area with possibility of an extra bed, kitchen, bathroom with a big, confortable shower box. Two tv, wi fi. Good link to the center town (bus n. 34 just outside the apartment, several other buses and train at less than 500 meters).

The apartment is located in a part of Rome (Monte del Gallo) very central and, at the same time, breezy and cozy. Just walking out the building’s door you will find the bus stop of bus n. 34, a comfortable small bus which allows you to reach easily and in few minutes St. Peter Square and Cavour Square. From Cavour Square, various buses and the near subway station will connect you to all the main neighborhoods and the main cultural and archeological sites. The “Roma S. Pietro” train station, at walking distance from our apartment, is strategic to reach rapidly and easily the main train station “Roma Termini”, the airport “Leonardo Da Vinci” and the coast (Fregene, Santa Marinella, Civitavecchia). At n. 10 of Salita di Monte del Gallo, at the top of a hill overlooking St. Peter’s dome, our apartment is made up of a living area, one bedroom, a comfortable bathroom with big shower and a kitchen fully equipped which gives onto a small garden where it is possible to eat and relax at the shadow of a medlar tree (nespolo in Italian) and surrounded by aromatic plants. In the winter season, in addition to an autonomous gas heating system, it is possible to enjoy the warmth of a wood stove. Linen and all that is necessary for cooking and eating is at guests’ disposal. The apartment is provided with two cable TVs and WI-FI system. In any room of the apartment, although naturally cool in summer time, there are ceiling fans. There are also two bike rentals at walking distance.

From Fiumicino Airport:
- take the bus "Sit bus shuttle" ((website hidden)) and get off at the vatican stop (Via Crescenzio). From there you can take bus n.34 (the stop is just across the street) which drops you off almost in front of the apartment (last stop) or a taxi from the near taxi station (located in Piazza Cavour)
- take a train (Leonardo Express) or a bus (Terravision: (website hidden)) to the main railway station (TERMINI). From there you can either take a taxi or bus n.64 getting off at St. Peter Station stop.
- taxi has a flat rate of 48 euros.

From Ciampino Airport:
- take a bus (Sit Bus Shuttle or Terravision) to the main railway station (TERMINI). From there you can either take a taxi or bus n.64 getting off at St. Peter Station stop
- taxi has a flat rate of 30 euros

From Termini Station:
- you can either take a taxi or bus n.64 getting off at St. Peter Station stop. The taxi ride from Termini station to the apartment should be around 12-18 euros. THERE IS NO FLAT RATE. Only take the white or yellow cab with the taxi sign on it.

  • The apartment was in a very convenient location. The neighborhood was very safe, and Anna, Rosa's mother was very friendly. The walk up the hill took some getting used to, and the pictures make the apartment look a little bigger than it is, but overall, it was a great experience. Perfect for two people. Three gets kind of crowded. The fan in the living room with the couch bed doesn't work unless the light is on.

  • Ross's apartment was the perfect home for our 4 day trip to Rome. The apartment is very comfortable, close to local shops and a 10 minute walk to the Vatican.

Rosa's mum Ana met us when we arrived and she was absolutely lovely, meeting us with a cool bottle of mineral water after our trip to Rome. The (email hidden) next door were very nice as well and we belted out a couple of songs with them at Friday night karaoke :-)

The only annoying thing about our stay, not the apartment, was the taxi ride to the apartment from Termini station. It cost us €40 as a flat rate ride rather than the €15 or so we found out it should have cost from Rosa afterwards. There's a train station (not metro) 2 minutes walk from the apartment where you can get to Termini for €1 each. We used that on our way out and it was easy and quick.

We had a great stay at Rosa's apartment and would definitely stay there again. Thanks Rosa!

  • I would highly recommend a stay here. The location is quiet and beautiful. If you want to be close and yet out of the noise this is the best value. It is 5 min walk to the Vatican, but less to the train stop that will cheaply and conveniently get you to and from her flat. Her mom Anna was a wonderful hostess and both were happy to help in any way. The flat is gorgeous too!

  • A friend and I stayed in Rosa's apartment for 2 nights. Rosa's mom, Ana, welcomed us warmly. It was a very hot day in Rome and she was waiting for us with 2 cold bottles of water. She also got us milk and cookies so that we would have them for breakfast the next day. So very thoughtful and the gesture much appreciated! The apartment was very clean and set up for us, with towels and a robe for each, and useful directions around town. The apartment is very cute, just like the pictures. There is no AC, but the apartment is surprisingly cool. The windows have screens so you can leave them open without worrying about mosquitoes. Another wonderful thing about the apartment is that it is a 10 minute walk from the Vatican. I highly recommend that you get to St. Peter's early in the morning before the crowds and the long lines. We were there by 7:30 and we got to really enjoy our visit. It's worth staying at Rosa's just for this purpose. But you get so much more. Rosa was quick to respond to emails before and during our trip. I definitely recommend this place!

  • Rosa and Anna are both extremely helpful. Their place is accommodating and located near many amenities, including a market, ATM, bar/cafe, bus stop, and the Vatican. I would not hesitate to recommend their place.

  • Rosa's apartment was exactly as the photos showed. It was very clean and had everything we needed for our 4 nights stay. It is very nicely decorated with a small yard where you can eat when its sunny. The only complain we would have is that the bed was a bit stiff for our taste, but by no means a deal breaker. Anna, her mother, received us and showed us around the house. She was very kind and friendly. The apartment is a 10 minutes walk away from the Vatican, and has several bus stops and a metro station within walking distance (5 minutes or less). From our experience, buses are very inconsistent in regards to arrival times (by default they are at least 10 mins late) so i would recommend making use of the metro whenever possible (or just walking). Theres a restaurant right in front of the apartment, but i would recommend going down the hill and eating at the Osteria dei Pontefici, which serves better food for almost the same price. All in all, the apartment was great and we would recommend it.

    Response from Rosa:

Thank you Alejandro for your comment!
Just a clarification about the bed for future guests: as shown in the apartment description it is a Futon bed. Futon matresses, eventhough they might be tougher than regular matresses, are meant to provide better back support. Moreover, it is stuffed with cotton fiber, which is a natural thermal insulation that allows the perspiration of the body in the summer and keep it warm in winter ;)

  • We had a wonderful stay in Rosa's apartment. Everything we needed was there and the apartment was very clean and comfortable to us.
The information about the apartment, the neighbourhood, the transport etc. was good and suitable. Rosa's mother was very welcoming and friendly and showed us how things work in the apartment.
We liked two things especially: the small patio for breakfast in the morning and an aperitif in the evening. and the quiet neighbourhood with the bus tot the centre of Rome and the little bar, just around the corner.
Rosa's apartment is therefore for us a very good place to stay in the warm and sunny months of the year.

  • My friend and I really enjoyed our stay in Rosa's apartment. It was very clean, cozy and so nicely decorated. We loved perhaps especially the apartment's private patio, where we enjoyed breakfast and a cup of tea in the evening. The area was nice and quiet and it felt very safe when we came back around midnight. The bus into the city center was close-by. We appreciated how Rosa and her mother Anna were quick to reply to our messages and they made us feel like it was important to them that things worked smoothly and that we had a good time in Rome.

  • British couple staying for 3 nights. Rosa's mum Anna was there to welcome us, even though we were 1.5 hours late due to Ryanair. She was very welcoming and carefully explained the apartment to us.

The apartment is perfect for a couple, but 3 (or 4 at a stretch) friends could stay there also. It is clean, fully fitted and has a gorgeous veranda with a table and chairs for breakfast or evening drinks.

The location is excellent. It is 10 minutes walk to the Vatican, and 3 minutes walk to the nearest bus stop, bus 64 takes you all the way into town, though you could walk to most central places within an hour if you like a wander. The neighbourhood is quiet and appeared pretty safe. There were a few unsavoury types hanging around after dark, but that's to be expected in any city. We walked back late at night with no trouble whatsoever.

    Things we wished we knew:

Rosa has a TV in the bedroom with a built in DVD player. We should have brought some DVDs to lie back and relax to after a long day's walking around great Roman sites. The pangs for "Gladiator" were particularly intense.

Linen and towels are provided. The towels are quite small, though, so I would recommend bringing your own as well.

Make sure you don't mess up your journey back to the airport... The shuttle bus from the Termini station to the airport (Fiumicino or Ciampino) is not that regular, so make sure you check the timetable beforehand and aim to get a particular bus, rather than leaving it too late, having to frantically pay for a taxi, and almost missing your flight...

Overall, an excellent place to stay. Anna was very welcoming, the apartment was lovely, clean and well-fitted, and we would definitely stay again if given the chance/choice!

I like travelling and knowing different places. I lived both in Canada and Ecuador. Nevertheless, I love my city and my house which I tried to make the most warming and comfortable possible. I hope you'll like it as much as I do :)
