The roofs of the cottage are completely made from the Bali plants, Alang Alang.
Rooms are very cool with the natural breeze making a perfectly natural environment to make your stay comfortable.
The cottage is surrounded by exquisite natural scenery and rice fields.
That should make you feel at home with friendly customer service and can enjoy bike cycling or walking around too.
On either hand of the road, there are plenty of shops for several kilometers in which you can do your everyday shopping and make your stay ever more pleasant. The shops are fairly priced compared to the Seminyak or Kuta areas, and famous among overseas tourists for buying souvenirs and Balinese sundries.

  • Nice cottage! Location is not very convenience, but Ketch will take you to the centre Ubud if you want, so it won't be a big problem!

  • The cottage is too cute! The host family is so lovely, treating us like friends and royalties. The only downside is this place is quite hard to find (even with address and map). Make sure you save the host's cell phone number in your phone so the taxi driver can call him and ask him how to get there.

  • Pros: A clean and well-maintained cottage, I adored the organic wooden structure and rustic interior design. Mr Fujita was very prompt with his replies, which was good. I was expecting some terrible mozzie invasion, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. But just in case, bring some insect repellent along. Great home-cooked food (the nasi goreng aka fried rice is a must-try!), the hosts were generally friendly and helpful, they helped me with transport to the city when requested, though it is chargeable at ~5,000 rp. It is also a very quiet and serene place (well, except for some rooster crows in the morning and cricket chirps at night), perfect for those looking for peace away from the bustling cities and roads . Last but not least, the in-room massage service is lovely and convenient.

Cons: The cottage a little far from town, so you will definitely need a transport if you want to go out. I tried walking one morning, but believe me when I say it was one of the worse travel decisions of my life ;) so unless you enjoy walking under the hot sun for more than an hour, don't do that.

Overall: The Alang Alang House is a nice place to experience living on a traditional Balinese compound/residence. I went there on for a short yoga retreat so I didn't do as many activities as some would. Interaction with the host (Mr. Ketut and his family) was minimal but still pleasant. However, when it comes to service sincerity, I feel that it can be improved. I can't help but feel a little wary when they got my food orders wrong twice (one of which, the lady who served me actually tried to 'upsell' a noodle dish by saying she's used special ingredients, hmm...), and when my flight got delayed a few hours, Mr Ketut's first and only response was questioning, as he is concerned if I will pay extra for accommodation if I did not check out by noon. I understand his concerns, but the lack of empathy just leaves me a little disappointed, given that this is a home stay and not a hotel, I thought that people would be a little more helpful and not just hoping to find monetary gain in every situation. But alas, all ends well as I happened to have a friend who was in Ubud on the same day so I went over to meet her to spend the few hours instead.

  • We just stayed here 1 night, but it's a great spot for the price. Very close to downtown Ubud, host is very friendly and can help you rent a motorbike. Room is clean and comfortable. Can be a little tricky to find (taxi's don't know it) so make sure you coordinate with someone there in advance.

  • My sister, her friend and I stayed at the beautiful cottage for two nights during our stay in Ubud. We were picked up from our previous accommodation by Mr. Ketut who was very welcoming and friendly. The cottage itself is lovely and it is obvious that a lot of care and time has gone into the building of the cottage. The balcony is exactly as shown in the picture and we enjoyed spending our evenings relaxing outside. The beds are very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. We wanted to visit Mount Batur and Mr. Ketut offered to drive us there and along the way stopped off at a few different sights such as The Elephant Cave and a traditional Balinese dance show. During our drive Mr. Ketut told us all about Bali sights and took us to a recommended buffet restaurant.
We were provided with breakfast every morning at a convenient time to ourselves and Mr. Ketut's daughter prepared this. I also had an in room massage from a local service available and we ordered food (prepared by their family) which was very (website hidden) and wifi worked very well. Perhaps only negative to this place is that it's the north side of Ubud so you are out of the centre so a taxi drive is a must unless you don'ti mind walking 30/40 mins. There is however a free shuttle bus Mr. Ketut runs @ set times 12, 3, 5 and 9. Keep up the good work!

  • The hosts were supremely helpful every step of the booking process and arranged our airport pickup for us. The cottage's staff, comprised of the host's family, took incredible care of us. Everyone we met was warm, generous and kind. The cottage is gorgeous, clean and peaceful.

  • My wife, Akiko, and I loved staying at the Organic Cottage. Both Fujita-san and Mr. Ketut Ardana, his business partner, are great hosts. The cottage is located on Ketut's family property (It has been his family's land for a very long time) and is as lovely as indicated in the pictures. Ketut's family are great hosts as well. In addition to breakfast which was quite good, simple and very reasonably priced local dishes are available. While this is very much a family run experience, the level of service is high, meaning that you get the opportunity to really interact with a Balinese family and get treated like a real guest. The level of service is both professional and personal. In-room massages through an outside service that Ketut arranges were consistently great (I had 6 such massages during our eight-day stay and very reasonably priced. My wife also had a great pedicure and manicure by the same service. Ketut's family can assist with delivery of food from three local places as well. Car service is available as needed to get into downtown Ubud. The result was a really relaxing and very convenient experience. The internet connection is great and I had no problem holding a 45 minute full video (website hidden) conference from the room.
You will hear nature all night and all day long. If you are very noise sensitive, especially to the sound of roosters, bring ear plugs. We came for the nature, so this is not a complaint, just a statement of fact.
Ketut has extensive experience informing visitors about Bali, he is a a great person to talk with and is a good local tour guide.
Daily room cleaning was always punctual and well done.
We highly recommend the banana pancake for breakfast!

  • We had the most wonderful stay at Organic Cottage in Ubud. What an incredible experience to wake up un front of a jungle! Mr Fujita's business partner, Mr.Ketut, and his family took care of us very well. The cottage was clean and confortable, and it was easy to rent a scooter to get around Ubud. We can't wait to come back.

  • If you are considering a quiet stay that's just a short drive to central Ubud, stop searching now and book here! This place is awesome, relaxing, beautiful, and I would totally stay here again, without hesitation. The staff is great, the cooking is great, and the tours provided were very well priced and rich in discovery.

At this place you can walk into a beautiful, massive rice field in 10 minutes. It's also nice to just chill here. My friend and I are vegetarian, and we were served lovely and simple dishes of local vegetables, tempe, and rice.

The ONLY downside is that there are no walkable restaurants nearby. But renting a scooter or paying 40,000 IRD to get into Ubud is so easy.

For real, if you are considering this place for a quiet getaway with easy access to Ubud, just do it. You won't regret.
