What an amazing, hidden spot! It looks exactly as in the pictures, if not even better.
I stayed alone at the cottage for 2 weeks on a writing retreat, then my husband joined me to telecommute. The cottage is ideal for those purposes, where it provides the quiet, tranquil environment to focus, away from the hustle and bustle among other tourists. That said, it is a little far away from town center, about 15 minutes on motorbike (I timed it). Or you catch their shuttle. I was catching a ride to go into yoga barn almost every day and it was fine. A motorbike would be more convenient if that's within your comfort level.
There are a few restaurants (great ones) that deliver to the cottage, so if you want to stay put, there are options.
As for their breakfast, it's a bit heavy on the carbs (fruits, sandwiches, and pancakes). I enjoyed mine, but my husband is gluten sensitive so he limited himself mostly to the fruits.
Mr Ketut and his family are wonderful hosts. They are always so kind and gracious. By the end, my husband and I were sad to leave.
I already want to go back!
The room was exactly like the picture. There's even a hammock under the cottage. The cottage is located at the end of a very well-maintained villa - with a large garden separated the cottage from the main section of the rest of the house. It gives a great sense of privacy. The cottage is facing to a small tropical garden/forrest.
The service is great, with free breakfast and reasonably priced room service. The hosts were very accommodating.
The location is a bit far from the town center however. It takes about 5 mins by bike to the center of the city, probably about 20 minutes if you really want to walk. So renting a bike is a necessity if you want to have dinner/shop around in Ubud.
We were very pleased with our stay in Ubud; good value for money. Some remarks: not enough light in the room (impossible to read), breakfast so-so... Mr. Ketut was an excellent host and guide for our first 2 days in Bali. Thanks!!!
A beautiful house with a great view! We had a wonderful stay in Bali. The family was very hospitable and helpful. The Organic and traditional Indonesian house is very big and comfortable. It was clean and serviced daily. The Wifi was very good and fast. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. We loved to eat the Banana pancakes! The family arranged tours, our laundry and the transport to the airport. And also we could rent a motorbike from them. So it was very easy for us and we could enjoy our stay there!
And also we highly recommend staying there!
An absolutely wonderful place. The nature surrounding the place is so beautiful. Very peaceful and calm. Perfect for a relaxing getaway. Pak Ketut and Mera were absolutely friendly and wonderful! Will definitely come back!
It is now nearly a month since I stayed at the beautiful Alang Alang. I was there by myself for 10 days, and I have reflected fondly on this time nearly every day since. The accommodation is about a 15-minute drive from the city centre, and as I was doing morning yoga classes at Radiantly Alive I was walking into town, which would take me about 35 minutes.
The family that runs Alang Alang are so kind. Ketut, his daughter-in-law Made, and his daughter Nyoman all made me feel very cared for. I had the huge, deluxe room on stilts overlooking the forest garden, which was quiet (save for the roosters and birds at sunrise, which I loved). It was a real retreat from the hubbub of the bustling city.
I was so happy in my accommodation – it was clean, comfortable and just like it looks on the website. In short, mine was a very positive first airbnb experience and I recommend Alang Alang highly, particularly for solo travellers wanting a quiet Ubud experience.
Great Experience in the jungle of UBUD. Totally worth it if you love to have the real Bali Countryside experience. Close to UBUD with great food and sightseeing. Loved the stay the overall experience was amazing and unique! Would go there again.
Hi, tonight is my last night of a 16 night stay here at Alang Alang House. I stayed in the beautiful Heavenly Balcony room. You can hardly call it a room, is so spacious, tranquil & beautifully decorated. The picture of the full width balcony you see, doesn't do it justice. I came alone, for some rest & relaxation & got that & more. I spent many days reading on the balcony, enjoying the tropical forest immediately in front of it. It was everything I wanted & want.
Every morning I was served breakfast by the beautiful Rena who was happy to take care of anything I needed. I had my laundry less than $1 several times. A rental scooter was delivered the day after I arrived & cost a mere $5 a day & allowed me to explore everywhere I wanted to go. I went down to Kuta on it. The roads are good & whilst the traffic may seem a bit chaotic, everyone knows what they're doing. Katut, was gorgeous & always checking to see that I was happy, arranged & took me to see an acupuncturist & all without fuss or bother. Heavenly Balcony is at the back of the compound & on stilts. Other guests came & went but I was never intruded upon. Katut's & Kadak's wife would wish me safe travels everytime I headed off on my scooter to go somewhere & every morning there was a blessing to the gods left on my scooter for good karma.
Ubud is inland & I found miles & miles of roads to ride around on & always someone happy to give directions when I got lost. There are the terraced rice fields & tropical plants & forests everywhere. There are also many enjoyable & very economical places to eat in Central Ubud. I often bought food at road stalls run by a family.
I have done a lot of traveling in my day & spent considerably more for accommodation than I have here yet this will remain a special experience.
My friends and I enjoyed our stay at the Alang Alang house. We were picked up from the airport shortly after our arrival. Mr Ketut- the local caretaker was very helpful and helped us plan out our itinerary for the 4 days we stayed with them. Breakfast was always served on time and he was always available to help us with transport.
The Alang Alang house is a lovely place to stay in Ubud - especially for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Just be sure to bring bug spray! Seems like the Ubud bugs love my blood.
Thanks, Mr Ketut and staff and Mr Fujita for letting us stay in your lovely house.
