Sanctuary in Katmandu.
Located in Himalayan Heights next to the Soaltee Hotel, in a quiet residential area and built during the 1950s with British earthquake proof architectural engineering. Two stories with one master bedroom and two smaller bedrooms. A spacious living area, dining room and modern kitchen. Two bathrooms, newly renovated. Two working chimneys perfect for winter. Property has fertile soil and lush garden with many fruit trees, flowers and vegetables available seasonally. Separate staff quarter and parking on premises.
You will be able to cook in the house. However, there are also a couple of delicious restaurants nearby like Al Fresco (Soaltee Hotel) and Kakori (Soaltee Hotel), shopping and phone booths to make international calls.
It takes 15 minutes by car (in traffic) to reach the tourist center Thamel, home to many restaurants and bars. Taxis are available 24/hours a day at the gate of the Soaltee Hotel just steps away from the house. There is also local bus service at the Soalteemode junction for those interested.
Perfect for a couple or small family. Ideal for those interested in a cozy, peaceful and safe place in Kathmandu.
Safe, serene and central.
24 hour access to taxis outside the Soaltee and Grand Hotel, just steps away. And major local bus stop in 5 mins walking distance.
This house was perfect for our stay in Kathmandu, we enjoyed the space and the peaceful surroundings and the hospitality and helpfulness of Rekha and her family.
The house is well positioned within Kathmandu to provide peace and quiet when you want it and within easy reach of the tourist areas when you don't, Thamel is only about 15 minutes in a taxi.
There was nothing more than could have been provided for us that could have made our stay more enjoyable, it was just perfect and we will definitely be re-booking again for our next visit to Nepal.
Thank you Nani for a great house and thanks to Rekha for all her help.

Great house in a cute little street. Very spacious. Close to shops and hotel restaurants.
My wife and me stay at this apartment for 3 nights, Everything is as described and everything works except hot water. Rekha (house care taker) was very attentive and always ready to help. In short, everything was perfect. The apartment is exactly as described.
Will stay here again n highly recommended.
Nani's place was very comfortable and serene. It has nice bathrooms with hotshowers, comfortable rooms, cabs and shops right near by, quiet nights, and a great family living on the compound (Rekha who is a wonderful a cook and Rohit who was a wonderful host and helped me out with everything I needed to settle in, including a phone/simcard, a mask, and great conversation). Nani was also very nice, communicative, and understanding. I had come a few days late, and she allowed me to make up some days at the end of my stay. I would definitely stay here again. Ideal for 3-4 people.
Excellent experience in a beautiful house located in a very convenient part of Kathmandu. I highly recommend this gorgeous house (with its amazing team of people to assist with anything you might need) to anyone staying in Kathmandu for a medium to long term.
Enjoy this little Oasis in what might sometimes feel like an overwhelmingly chaotic city.
When we arrived Kathmandu we realized that we made right decision by choosing this house It ıs a wonderful place and far away from the bustle of the city . The house was various amenities .There are taxis in front of the house to reach the city central. We are especially grateful to Ram and Sabythree for the delicious Nepalese food..
My daughter used to live at this place for two months and she loved this place very, very much. She enjoyed her stay totally!
Spacious and quiet, the house is best fit for two or even three couples to stay. Me together with my wife actually made use of only two rooms (of four) and only one of two bathrooms available.
A big studio space at the first floor fits well for practising yoga (as my wife did). Working with your laptop and not disturbing anyone who sleeps upstairs - sound isolation is extremely good. There are at least two different exits to the garden right from this space (if you're a smoker like me, you'll appreciate it as well as a big balcony at the second floor).
The garden itself, with roses blooming and fresh lime hanging from tree in half a meter from the window, is a real calming therapy after permanent noise in central Kathmandu. There's even a little shrine of a local god near the entrance. Some photos here: (website hidden)
A large family of pigeons inhabiting a wooden box on the external wall may seem a little noisy (and the sounds of pigeons right after the window may even frighten for the first time - it's not a thief onside your house in the midnight, pigeons only). From time to time, a big asian cocroach was accidentally met inside - but it had done its best to avoid our ways crossing.
The owner of the house lives in USA, but readily answers the e-mails (with the inevitable time lag caused by difference in time zones). However, Nepali family supervising the house stays in the nearby smaller house and readily provides everything necessary, say, for the kitchen (frying pans, saucepans, forks and knives etc.) and solves the problems arising by the way. Rekha, the mother of the family, is friendly and speaks English well enough.
The house is a bit departed from the heart of Kathmandu. Be ready to pay Rs 150-200 for a taxi to Thamel one way or to spend about 30 minutes walking. Swayambunath is in the same part of the city. No cafees nearby (except for, maybe, restaurants in 5-star Soaltee hotel and Grand Hotel, located within 100-meter radius).
Gas-powered kitchen stove is available and makes possible home cooking. Fridge is also up and running. Second-floor bathroom is equipped with water heater. To get hot water, you need to wait for it 15-20 minutes and don't expect too powerful stream. No washing machine, so we used Thamel-based laundries.
At the time of our stay there was no cable internet in the house (but the landlord was willing to provide it in 24 hours; we preferred to use Ncell 3g modem - the signal and therefore bandwidth are excellent in the area).
To sum up, time spent here is worth its money and even much more.
