The Cottage Getaway by the Sea is a single level one bedroom stand alone cottage on a cliff over Rio Del Mar Beach w/ 180 degree WOW views of the Monterey Bay. Seasonally enjoy dolphins, whales, & great sunsets! Located in a peaceful neighborhood, this is a perfect place for a quiet romantic getaway or just to read, relax, & enjoy. We are one of the few airbnbs with a California King Bed! Pricing is per night for one; 2nd person +$25 per nite

The space
Approximately 50 yards below the main house on the property, the cottage offers some nice privacy. For those who love the look and sound of the ocean, this is THE spot. There are four steps from the driveway down to the paved path to the cottage, one step into the cottage, and no steps within the cottage. Note: We have one California King Bed and host one or two quiet guests which works best with our neighbors and the cottage plumbing.

Guest access
Parking for one car is on the VERY LEFT side of the driveway (please do not block our garage doors!!) Guests enter through a gate in front of their parking spot and head down a concrete pathway to the cottage. (We will unlock the gate and cottage close to your arrival time.) There is a cement patio area next to the cottage where the owners outdoor dining table and propane fire pit are located. Both may be used by the guest. There is a gas grill adjacent to the cottage.
There is no direct beach access from the property but beach access is very close at Hidden Beach Park.

Other things to note
The cottage can accommodate one or two people. We charge $25 additional per night for the second guest. 2 MAX GUESTS PER OUR PERMIT. The owners prefer airbnb guests with three or more recent five star reviews.

Most pets are not allowed. We make an exception for a hypoallergenic, non-shedding dog, if approved in advance by the host. The dog is not allowed in the carpeted bedroom. Please use the lawn adjacent to the rear of the cottage for your dog's 'rest stops.' Immediately pick up your dog's "treasures" and deposit the bagged treasure in the brown outdoor trash can (inside the gate in front of where you park.) FYI you will also find a blue recycling bin as well as a green bin for food scraps next to the brown trash bin.

There are surveillance cameras on the property.

The bathroom has a toilet and shower, and there is also a separate vanity area.

Filtered water is available in the kitchen. No need for
plastic water bottles!

The ol' cottage is on the dirt cliff. Ants live in the soil below and can attempt to relocate in heavy rains.Make a practice of keeping your screen door shut and food in the refrigerator so you aren't attracting ants from outside.

High season usually require a 7 night minimum.

Due to the location in a usually very peaceful neighborhood of primarily
older adults, please travel in one car, parking in the left side of our driveway. Occupancy is strictly limited to the 1-2 prepaid and pre-registered guests. Always keep noise to reasonable level during your stay. 10pm-7am are quiet hours. Although a wildly fabulous place, this is NOT a place for parties or excessive exuberance.... This is a place for a *quiet* getaway. Note fireworks can be heard from the property but are prohibited and not allowed on our property. There is no direct beach access from the property.

Neighborhood highlights

The property is in a residential neighborhood of mostly elderly folks. The nearest grocery store, Deluxe Foods, is fantastic (gourmet, with sandwich bar, hot food bar, salad bar, sushi counter and a nice selection of beer and wine) and is right off Hwy. 1 as you head towards the cottage. There is a liquor store next door. The nearest beach access is Hidden Beach, about a 3 minute drive or under a 10 minute walk.
