About this listing
Our quiet one bedroom apartment is located in the Capitol Hill Historic District just minutes away from iconic DC sights such as the Library of Congress and the US Capitol.
Convenient Capitol Hill location near Eastern Market Metro (Blue/Orange lines) and convenient to Library of Congress, US Capitol, Congressional Offices, the Smithsonian and the National Mall. Many restaurants, shops, parks, food stores and cafes on nearby Barracks Row and H Street corridor, including historic Eastern Market.
My neighborhood enjoys many young families as well as homes to senators, congressional representatives and professionals.
The one-bedroom apartment is separate from my living quarters and has a private entrance, an open front room with living and dining areas, a new flat screen TV with DISH 200 satellite package and DVD player, a large bedroom with queen-size bed and double closet. There is a galley kitchen with all the amenities, a full size sofa bed, separate laundry room and wireless Internet.
Parking is on-street and 90% of the time I'm able to find a spot outside the front door. If you request it, I can provide you a visitor's parking pass if you are planning to leave your car on the street more than 2 hours at a time during the day.
There are many grocery stores within 5 minutes walking (you have use of a grocery cart): a Yes Organic Market, a Harris Teeter and a Safeway. A neighborhood convenience market is located just around the corner. Multiple drug stores, dry cleaners, coffee shops are all close by as well. Two gyms, both about a 15-minute walk, have day passes for $15 or $19.
I'll provide you with a Metro SmarTrip card with a few dollars on it. This will save you the time of having to purchase paper fare cards and the $1/trip paper fare card surcharge.
There is a bike-sharing program and a Zip Car parking area within 2 blocks of the apartment.
Other Things to Note
There is a sofa pullout bed that can accommodate 1 extra person.
There is a hair dryer for your convenience.
No smoking on premises. This is a quiet neighborhood, so guests preferring a quiet environment are best-suited. Heating is house-wide, but an electric heater is available for targeted, extra heat.
We enjoyed our stay. The apartment is conveniently located in a friendly neighborhood with lots of charm. Louise was responsive and helpful.
Our five day stay in Louise's English Basement apartment was just great for us. The unit was very clean and well equipped, and the location was easy to find and in a great DC neighborhood. Louise was very responsive to a few minor things we needed during our stay and very friendly as well.
I really enjoyed my time at Louise's garden apartment. It was beautiful, intimate, and tucked away in a great neighborhood. I'd really recommend it!
Louise was a friendly, helpful host and our stay was lovely. Beautiful, quaint little basement apartment :)
A comfortable clean apartment in one of Washington's nicest neighborhoods. The parking pass was a huge help as it allowed us to use the Metro (an easy 10 min walk) for most of our sightseeing. Having Metro smart cards for us to use and refill was an excellent perk. Louise was responsive and helpful, and my kids and I had a great mini-vacation here. Thanks Louise!
Louise was super nice and made us feel welcome. We loved the location-only a 10-15 min. walk to a Metro station, coffee shops and restaurants. We felt safe in the neighborhood; lots of people walking dogs and pushing strollers with little kids. The quiet basement apartment is great--perfect for 2 people! Kitchen is well-equipped, shower was really nice, bed is comfortable (and so is the sleeper couch), A/C works well, and washer/dryer are great. We recommend this and would stay there again if we were in the area.
The apartment, in a great Capitol Hill location, was very clean, and Louise was easy to communicate with. I also appreciated small touches like a basket of power bars and readily available wifi info.
