Convenient Capitol Hill location near Eastern Market Metro (Blue/Orange lines) and convenient to Library of Congress, US Capitol, Congressional Offices, the Smithsonian and the National Mall. Many restaurants, shops, parks, food stores and cafes on nearby Barracks Row and H Street corridor, including historic Eastern Market.
My neighborhood enjoys many young families as well as homes to senators, congressional representatives and professionals.
The one-bedroom apartment is separate from my living quarters and has a private entrance, an open front room with living and dining areas, a new flat screen TV with DISH 200 satellite package and DVD player, a large bedroom with queen-size bed and double closet. There is a galley kitchen with all the amenities, a full size sofa bed, separate laundry room and wireless Internet.
Parking is on-street and 90% of the time I'm able to find a spot outside the front door. If you request it, I can provide you a visitor's parking pass if you are planning to leave your car on the street more than 2 hours at a time during the day.
There are many grocery stores within 5 minutes walking (you have use of a grocery cart): a Yes Organic Market, a Harris Teeter and a Safeway. A neighborhood convenience market is located just around the corner. Multiple drug stores, dry cleaners, coffee shops are all close by as well. Two gyms, both about a 15-minute walk, have day passes for $15 or $19.
I'll provide you with a Metro SmarTrip card with a few dollars on it. This will save you the time of having to purchase paper fare cards and the $1/trip paper fare card surcharge.
There is a bike-sharing program and a Zip Car parking area within 2 blocks of the apartment.
There is a sofa pullout bed that can accommodate 1 extra person.
For bookings of 2 weeks or longer, a cleaning fee of $50 will be assessed.

As always, Louise's apartment was great -- clean, cool, and comfortable.
The apartment was absolutely perfect! It was just like the pictures, very cozy and comfortable. Louise is very thoughtful with extras like metro passes available, laundry detergent, etc. She even loaned us her own coffee grinder when I asked if there was one available! Apartment was very clean and quiet. Good location a few blocks from Eastern Market, about a 45 minute walk to the National Gallery of Art. We can't wait to come back!
Louise was incredibly accommodating and super friendly. I definitely recommend her and this cute little location.
I stayed at Louise's basement apartment for a month while interning in DC and couldn't have asked for a better stay! Louise lives right upstairs and is easily available for any questions or needs. She is SO nice and a perfect host!
The apartment is small, but comfortable. My dad was along so it was a bit tight for the two of us, but we loved it anyhow. It was clean upon arrival and is stocked with just about anything you need (soap, shampoo, eating utensils, etc.) LOCATION is great! About one mile from the Capitol and a short stroll to the Metro, access to all the city's best sites is easy. The Capitol Hill neighborhood is a gem! It's friendly, quiet, and safe. Lincoln Park, about a 5 minute walk up 12th street, is great to people and dog watch. Also Eastern Market and Barracks Row are nearby for shopping and restaurants. There is a Safeway and local store located nearby for groceries and other needs. This apartment was a lovely place to call home while in D.C. I was sad to leave!
Anytime we visit D.C. we will definitely be staying with Louise again! Great host, apartment, and location, a perfect combination for a great D.C. experience!
It was great. The apt was in an excellent location close to metro, store and the famous Eastern Market area. Louise was very responsive to my request for additional heat and even gave me an extra heater when she was away for part of the weekend. The apples and instant oatmeal were a great touch.
Louise is a most gracious host, and the apartment is well-appointed and comfortable. Mine was only a brief stay this time, but I look forward to returning here with my wife for an extended vacation in DC.
We will definitely return in the future. Our daughter lives just a few blocks away, so this is the perfect location and a great place to stay. Louise is super attentive to any concerns and clearly works to make your stay enjoyable and easy. Having things like the parking permit, Metro card, and even shampoo in the shower all made the stay so easy. The apartment itself was clean and comfortable - I can't think of anything more we could have asked for!! And for those unfamiliar with DC, it is a great location - easy walk to the Eastern Market and Ted's Bulletin (a great breakfast spot), and about a mile to the Capitol.
Louise's apartment is lovely and comfortable. She thinks of everything to prepare you for a great visit. Would happily stay there again.
We loved our experience at Louise's! We only met her once when we checked in and she is very friendly. She put a guide book and all kinds of maps on the table for us to use and it was nice. The washer and dryer were especially helpful as we were traveling for several days and we really needed to do laundry! Very quiet and beautiful neighborhood, close to some great restaurants. We walked to Capital Hill and the museums--it was a little long but wonderful as we can enjoy every street and corner.
Louise and her Capital Hill English basement were wonderful and exactly what we were looking for during our stay in DC. From the start, the booking process was easy because Louise is responsive and easy to communicate with. Although our flight landed pretty late at night, Louise was able to accommodate us, and the apartment was ready for us when we arrived. It is a cozy, clean, and welcoming space, which we were thankful for after a long day of travel. Not only did we find everything we needed from towels to dishes and cups to toiletries, Louise also thoughtfully left us a basket of breakfast items and a SmartTrip card for the next morning as well as a binder with all the information we would need to know (the wifi password, etc.) for our stay. I was running the Nike Women's Half Marathon and did not have time to get breakfast because we'd arrived so late at night and the race began at 7 am the next day, so I was really grateful for the fruit and the breakfast bars!! I wish we could have stayed longer, but the next time we are in DC, Louise's basement apartment will definitely be our go-to place to stay.
