Central location, yet set back from the busy road in a lush, tropical garden next to a river.
Enjoy aircon, wifi, en-suite, a choice of breakfast on your private balcony & free tea/coffee during the day.
Our friendly staff are waiting to greet you.
Rumah Jepun is a calm oasis - right in the middle of town.
Our three double rooms, 'Hidden Riverside Gem', 'Secluded Haven' and the brand new, deluxe 'Waterfall Room' (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3734096), are all en-suite with private balconies overlooking a delightfully lush tropical garden.
They offer a blend of modern facilities merged with traditional touches... beautiful hand-carved Balinese doors, brightly coloured furnishings and modern bathrooms.
The rooms are non-smoking and our daily housekeeping includes fresh flowers.
You walk down steps of the leaf-imprinted pathway, embedded with words such as 'harmony' and 'gratitude' to your room on the ground floor.
You can stroll past banana and papaya trees, jepun and hibiscus flowers, chili and aloe vera plants as you walk down to the river at the bottom of the garden.
Sit on the bale (gazebo) with a cup of coffee and a book, or your laptop. It's a great place to meditate to the sound of the river and we can even arrange an outdoor massage there for you, or provide you a mat for yoga under warm Balinese skies.
Although Rumah Jepun is set in a quiet and tranquil garden it's only 2 mins walk to the many shops, cafes, bars and spas along the busy Monkey Forest Road.
If this room isn't available try its sister rooms: the Secluded Haven: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/761611 or the deluxe Waterfall Room: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3734096
Note: all three rooms at Rumah Jepun are ideal for singles, couples or two friends who are happy to share a double room.
Your en-suite room comes with wifi, aircon and a private balcony which overlooks the garden.
Sun-loungers are available or you can chill out in the bale (a thatched gazebo) next to the river.
Drinking water is freely available and our housekeeper will also make you a choice of breakfasts, plus tea and coffee during the day.
Interaction with Guests
Our friendly, live-in male staff will greet you and offer a welcome drink. If we know your arrival time they can also help to bring your bags from the street to your room.
I'm nearly always here to welcome you too and can answer any queries and have a chat about Bali and its unique culture.
Some guests have even joined me for a meal, drink or a night-out dancing at Yaniq's gig (my Balinese partner). You can also see, or even buy, Yaniq's unique artwork which decorates the walls at Rumah Jepun.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in the River View Room at Rumah Jepun - the home of a poet (published in 'A Taste of Bali' and 'Life's Journeys').
Ubud oozes with culture, scenery, temples, spas, art museums, meditation, alternative therapies, adventure, great shopping for handicrafts and many yoga studios - even the famous yoga barn is only 15 mins walk away.
This is topped off with a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars, traditional performances and great live music.
And if you're vegetarian, vegan or a raw food lover then you'll be spoilt for choice in Ubud.
The folder in your room gives lots of ideas and you can ask me for more details.
We're right in the middle of Ubud.
The monkey forest, with hundreds of monkeys, is less than 10 mins walk away. The market and palace are easy walking distance at the other end of the Monkey Forest Road.
A map of Ubud is in the folder in your room and we can help you book transport to take you further afield to visit temples, rice terraces, the volcano or the beach.
We can also arrange an airport pick-up, just give us your flight details.
Other Things to Note
Bali is a tropical island so the weather tends to be warm, to hot, all year round, frequently reaching 30 deg c.
So you might want to cool off in our neighbouring hotel's swimming pool for a small fee, alternatively the nearest beach is only about an hour away.
The volcano is approximately an hour away too - in the opposite direction! Maybe you want to go to the hot springs there?
Hey, why not get your phone unlocked before you come to Bali - that way you can get a cheap sim card here and be able to contact us should you need help/advice while out and about.
Check in - is usually 2pm but if you arrive early we can store your bags.
Check out - is usually 12 noon but if you need us to store your bags for a while that is fine.
Rooms are non-smoking (nor candles or incense), but you are welcome to smoke on your private balcony.
Note: the two rooms at Rumah Jepun are ideal for singles, couples or two friends who are happy to share a double room - they are not suitable for babies, children or people who have difficulty walking down steps.
In the unlikely event of fire/emergency please gather in the garden at Rumah Kita (last house along the pathway on the right).
Had such a wonderful stay at Rumah Jepun during our time in Ubud. Julie is an amazing host- so knowledgeable about Balinese culture, loads of recommendations for the area, and even met us out for drinks and dancing! Her garden is beautiful too- our breakfast included fresh papaya from her trees. Thank you Julie!
This is truly more than just a beautiful room in a superb location.
It is absolutely central to all the activities and conveniently within walking distance of the all that Ubud has to offer, whilst set just far enough back from Monkey Forest Road to feel as if you are totally secluded from it all in tropical paradise.
On top of this, without being intrusive on your privacy, Julie will check in and see how you are going and is a wealth of information and suggestions on any activities that might take your fancy and is always helpful in organising things to suit your plans and budget.
This is an ideal place to stay for couples or lone travellers wanting to experience life in Bali. I would definitely recommend a stay here, and would have liked to stay longer.
This room lived up to its name, overlooking a beautiful garden with gentle sounds of the river below. The entryway was adorned with a colorful, intricately carved front door. The morning banana pancake and fruit breakfast served on the peaceful front porch was a wonderful start to each day. The long secret pathway leading from monkey Forest Road is well lit, and leads well away from all the noise and activity of the street filled with shopping, spas and restaurants within steps of this wonderful getaway. Julie is an amazing host, who has a wealth of wonderful suggestions on activities. She was so pleasant to greet us each day, gave us plenty of privacy, yet was available to help us when we needed it. Couldn't have been nicer. The air conditioning and wifi were excellent, adding to the comfort. This is the closest room to the peaceful bale by the river, wonderful for meditation, writing or having breakfast.
Staying at Julie's was lovely. The room was quaint and peaceful and had everything needed for a relaxing stay. Julie was helpful and on the grounds for the most part so if anything is needed her or her welcoming staff are there to help. Location was perfect as well. Thank you!
Excellent location in a beautiful and calm setting. The room and bath room were both big and clean. The air conditioner was great for the hot weather! The staff were always around and were more than happy to help out. Very friendly and warm environment. Breakfast was delicious, especially that banana pancake!
A really lovely and welcoming spot! Right in the middle of Ubud with great access to endless activities. Julie had many great suggestions and was kind enough to invite us to share a glass of wine prior to going out for New Year's Eve.
We were collected on the street, and received a big welcome, along with some iced tea. The location is good, pretty much within walking distance to everywhere. Julie was nice, patient and willing to help. Really appreciate the little gift she gave us when we checked out. Hope to be with them again.

Pasek and the Rumah Jepun team are looking forward to welcoming you.
We hope you'll experience Balinese culture, enjoy delicious Balinese food, marvel at nature's beauty, unique architecture and temples and be fascinated and inspired by this enchanting tropical island.
It's inspiration like this that has turned guests into poets, authors, singer/songwriters and artists.
Talking of art... you'll see artwork on the walls of Rumah Jepun made by a Balinese singer/songwriter/artist called Yaniq.
You might meet him here too, as well as our staff Gede and Kadek (who make great pancakes for breakfast!) and long term resident Julie.
Come and visit Ubud and experience the beauty and inspiration for yourself.
Bali - a place like no other.
