Guest access

Enjoy free wifi, aircon and a large private balcony overlooking the tropical garden, featuring the jacuzzi in the jungle!

You can lay on a sunbed or chill out in the bale (a thatched gazebo) next to the river.

Drinking water is freely available and our housekeeper will also make you a choice of breakfasts, plus tea and coffee during the day.

In your wardrobe is a box of 9 items that might come in handy:

A hairdryer
A torch (sometimes there are power cuts in Bali)
An adaptor
A book to read (“A Taste of Bali” or “Life’s Journeys” - both feature my poems)
A Lonely Planet guide to Indonesia
A pack of cards
A fan (it gets hot in Bali)
A mosquito repellant
A stip – otherwise known as a catapult. You see, occasionally we get monkeys visiting Rumah Jepun. To scare them off, harmlessly, simply ‘ping’ the empty catapult at them!

Oh and there's a yoga mat in your wardrobe too!

An iron and ironing board, an electric fan, an extra pillow or weighing scales are also available - just ask!

Interaction with guests

Our friendly, live-in staff, Gede and Ketut (who you can see in the photos) will greet you and offer a welcome drink.

If we know your arrival time they can also help to bring your bags from the street to your room.

Long term resident, Julie, is usually here to say 'hello' too and can answer queries and have a chat about Bali and its unique culture. Maybe join her on an insightful garden tour, highlighting many cultural aspects of Bali.

Some guests have even joined her for a meal, a game of cards or a night-out dancing.

Of course, some guests just want time and space to themselves and we respect that.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at Rumah Jepun - the home of a poet/lyricist (published in 'A Taste of Bali' and 'Life's Journeys').

The neighborhood

Ubud oozes with culture, scenery, temples, spas, art museums, adventure, great shopping, alternative therapies and many yoga / meditation studios - even the famous yoga barn is only 15 mins walk away.

You can go to rice fields, mountains, volcanoes and hot springs. Or swimming, cycling, trekking, rafting and dancing. Or to the Zoo, Bird Park, Reptile Park, Elephant Park or Safari.

This is topped off with a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars, traditional performances and great live music.

And, if you're vegetarian, vegan or a raw food lover then you'll be spoilt for choice in Ubud.

The folder in your room gives lots of ideas and you can ask us for more details.

Getting around

We're right in the middle of Ubud.

The monkey forest, with hundreds of monkeys, is less than 8 mins walk away. The market and palace are easy walking distance at the other end of the Monkey Forest Road.

A map of Ubud is in the folder in your room and we can help you book transport to take you further afield to visit temples, rice terraces, the volcano or the beach.

We can also arrange a driver to pick you up from the airport... or from your accommodation, if you're already in Bali. Just ask for a quote.

Other things to note

Bali is a tropical island so the weather tends to be warm, to hot, all year round, frequently reaching 30 deg c.

Some swimming pools are available to the public for a small fee, alternatively the nearest beach is just over an hour away.

The volcano is just over an hour away too - in the opposite direction! Maybe you want to go to the hot springs there?

Hey, why not get your phone unlocked before you come to Bali - that way you can get a cheap sim card here and be able to contact us, or your driver, should you need help/advice while out and about.

We're in a natural environment with a jungle backdrop.

Please be aware that our traditional Balinese doors could be challenging for really tall guests and that Rumah Jepun is not suitable for children or those who may have difficulty with steps.

Check in time is from 2pm.

We need a copy of your passport to register you - the copier is here in Rumah Jepun and the registration fee is included in your room rental.

We're difficult to find so we recommend letting us arrange a driver to pick you up.
Alternatively please advise your arrival time here so our staff can wait for you on the street (note: guests often say they'll arrive at 2pm but in reality arrive much later - if this is the case PLEASE inform us, to prevent our staff waiting on the street for ages in the hot sun when they have work to do at the house, thank you).

Please read our house rules about using the jacuzzi (they are in the folder in your room and on the wall by the jacuzzi).

We spent wonderful 6 days in this little paradise. Initially we planned to stay for 3 days only but this place was so nice and Ubud has so much to offer that we decided to stay longer. Our room was surrounded with the lush and peaceful garden. Our hosts were amazing, they helped us in everything we needed including organizing tours and arranging transportation. The staff members truly demonstrated the unique kindness and friendliness of Balinese people. The breakfast was delicious. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis and we had everything we could need. The place is very well-located in the center of the city somewhat still hidden from Ubud's noise. Perfect choice!!!! Thank you to all of you for making our staying so happy and memorable.

We stayed three nights here and totally recommend this place. If you want to stay central right in the city, with lots of restaurants and the market around, but also want to have some quiet, peaceful time at your veranda, this is the perfect place! But it's quite hidden, so we recommend the hotel pickup (extra cost), but your merely will find the place by your own. The garden in front of our room was beautiful and has a whirlpool for free use. The room itself and the bathroom are very clean and furnished with everything you need. The staff is so friendly and helpful that we really felt welcome every time. You can choose between three dishes for breakfast, everything is cooked freshly and tasted deliciously. You get tons of helpful information in a folder at the room, and also by Julie who occasionally stepped by for a little chat. If we visite Bali and Ubud again, we definitely will stay here again.

We had a lovely stay at pasek's place. It was located in the middle of town near the Monkey forest but off the main road. Very quiet and tranquil. Breakfast was good and katuk was very helpful with retrieving us upon arrival and helping us when anything came up. We were there for 6 days and enjoyed it.

No frills accommodation. Everything you need and nothing more. Aircon, breakfast, hot shower, welcome book of things to do, friendly staff, and did I mention breakfast :-) there is also wifi, but it works best if you are outside your room. I would recommend anyone to stay here who may be on a budget and not spending much time in their room but to eat and sleep. The garden is beautiful although I did not take advantage. The location is tucked away so you can not hear the street or other people. It is also centrally located which makes everything walkable.

Pasek User ProfilePasek is a superhost.

Pasek and the Rumah Jepun team are looking forward to welcoming you.

We hope you'll experience Balinese culture, enjoy delicious food and marvel at nature's tropical beauty, unique architecture and the thought-provoking temples on this enchanting island.

It's inspiration like this that's turned people into poets, authors, singer/songwriters, artists and yoga & meditation practitioners.

While here you'll meet our friendly, helpful staff Gede, Botax and Ketut (who make great pancakes for breakfast!) and long term resident Julie.

Come and visit Ubud and experience the beauty and inspiration for yourself.
