Guest access

Enjoy free wifi, aircon and a large private balcony overlooking the tropical garden, featuring the jacuzzi in the jungle!

You can lay on a sunbed or chill out in the bale (a thatched gazebo) next to the river.

Drinking water is freely available and our housekeeper will also make you a choice of breakfasts, plus tea and coffee during the day.

In your wardrobe is a box of 9 items that might come in handy:

A hairdryer
A torch (sometimes there are power cuts in Bali)
An adaptor
A book to read (“A Taste of Bali” or “Life’s Journeys” - both feature my poems)
A Lonely Planet guide to Indonesia
A pack of cards
A fan (it gets hot in Bali)
A mosquito repellant
A stip – otherwise known as a catapult. You see, occasionally we get monkeys visiting Rumah Jepun. To scare them off, harmlessly, simply ‘ping’ the empty catapult at them!

Oh and there's a yoga mat in your wardrobe too!

An iron and ironing board, an electric fan, an extra pillow or weighing scales are also available - just ask!

Other things to note

Bali is a tropical island so the weather tends to be warm, to hot, all year round, frequently reaching 30 deg c.

Some swimming pools are available to the public for a small fee, alternatively the nearest beach is just over an hour away.

The volcano is just over an hour away too - in the opposite direction! Maybe you want to go to the hot springs there?

Hey, why not get your phone unlocked before you come to Bali - that way you can get a cheap sim card here and be able to contact us, or your driver, should you need help/advice while out and about.

We're in a natural environment with a jungle backdrop.

Please be aware that our traditional Balinese doors could be challenging for really tall guests and that Rumah Jepun is not suitable for children or those who may have difficulty with steps.

Wasn’t that clean and had a lot of mosquitoes. Food was barely ok. Location is excellent.

Response from Pasek:
We're very surprised and saddened to read Ahmed's comments, especially as our rooms are swept and mopped daily and we have 83% of 5 star reviews for cleanliness. Also because, when Ahmed left us, he mentioned that he may well return again, so we had no idea that he was so dissatisfied. With regard to mosquitoes... Bali is in the tropics and so, yes, mosquitoes do exist on this tropical island. With regard to the breakfast, it was interesting to note that our other guest made this comment: "The banana pancakes in the morning are awesome too!". So, once again, we were surprised that Ahmed did not enjoy our breakfast, it just goes to show that you cannot please everybody.

Pasek and Julie are well organized and have a lovely home. The jacuzzi was nice after a long day. The suggestions on day trips and Jati's willingness to take us there was great.

SO in love with this place. We stayed at multiple AirBnBs in Bali and they have received a range of ratings, but if I could give this place 10 stars I would. The room was clean and had your basic needs (bonus on Bali books to read and yoga mat!), but the real difference is made by three things: 1. the location is absolutely perfect to explore Ubud, yet somehow still quiet when you are tired of motor noise, 2. The garden and grounds are gorgeous! Authentic Balinese and so cozy, 3. The staff. I can't say enough about the sweetness of Ketut and his delicious breakfast. And their driver, Jati, ended up taking us around on tours for two days after meeting him! He got us great deals on things to do, explained everything with sweet patience, spoke wonderful English, and was just so much fun to hang out with. Last thing - plan to stay more days in Ubud than you already are. There is SO much culture and things to do here, we with we could have spent more than the 5 days we did.

We had a lovely stay at pasek's place. It was located in the middle of town near the Monkey forest but off the main road. Very quiet and tranquil. Breakfast was good and katuk was very helpful with retrieving us upon arrival and helping us when anything came up. We were there for 6 days and enjoyed it.

No frills accommodation. Everything you need and nothing more. Aircon, breakfast, hot shower, welcome book of things to do, friendly staff, and did I mention breakfast :-) there is also wifi, but it works best if you are outside your room. I would recommend anyone to stay here who may be on a budget and not spending much time in their room but to eat and sleep. The garden is beautiful although I did not take advantage. The location is tucked away so you can not hear the street or other people. It is also centrally located which makes everything walkable.

Interaction with guests

Our friendly, live-in staff, Putu and Made (who you can see in the photos) will greet you and offer a welcome drink.

If we know your arrival time they can also help to bring your bags from the street to your room.

Long term resident, Juli, is usually here to say 'hello' too and can answer queries and have a chat about Bali and its unique culture. Maybe join her on an insightful garden tour, highlighting many cultural aspects of Bali.

Some guests have even joined her for a meal, a game of cards or a night-out dancing.

Of course, some guests just want time and space to themselves and we respect that.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at Rumah Jepun - the home of a poet/lyricist (published in 'A Taste of Bali' and 'Life's Journeys').

About Pasek

Pasek and the Rumah Jepun team are looking forward to welcoming you.

We hope you'll experience Balinese culture, enjoy delicious food and marvel at nature's tropical beauty, unique architecture and the thought-provoking temples on this enchanting island.

It's inspiration like this that's turned people into poets, authors, singer/songwriters, artists and yoga & meditation practitioners.

While here you'll meet our friendly, helpful staff Gede, Botax and Ketut (who make great pancakes for breakfast!) and long term resident Julie.

Come and visit Ubud and experience the beauty and inspiration for yourself.
