Charming 2 bedroom restored holiday home in the courtyard of our small chateau in the heart of the rolling hills of the Beaujolais. Period furniture; decorative wrought iron beds with new mattresses; original marble fireplaces; original art work, piano, wi-fi.
The garden and 11m heated salt-water pool give you panoramic views over vineyards and rolling hills, 150km to Mont Blanc and the Alps on a clear day in the East and the Monts du Tarare in the West.
Moiré is a small village in the South of the Beaujolais, in an area known as Les Pierres d'Orées, a warm honey coloured limestone with which most of the buildings in the area are built. 35 km from Lyon, it is an ideal base from which to explore as well as being an idyllic spot in which to relax. Villefranche-sur-Saône (access A6) with its fabulous covered food market is 14 km North.
The neighbouring villages include Bagnols with its world renowned château hotel and Oingt, a medieval hill-top village recently classified as one of France’s most beautiful villages. The local market town, Le Bois d’Oingt (3 km) has shops, doctor, vet, bank, post office and a market every Tuesday morning.
Wine tasting is available in the 16th century cellar opposite the chateau, or at any of the 6 other winemakers in the village, locally in the area and at world famous vineyards further up the road in Burgundy.
There are numerous restaurants nearby, our favourites are Le Vieux Moulin (Alix) for quality traditional cuisine; L’Auberge du Château (Bully) for great modern cuisine and L’Auberge Chatoux Fleuri, genuine rustic cuisine on the Col du Chatoux. There are many 1 to 3* Michelin starred restaurants within easy driving distance.
Road and off-road cycling, walking, galleries, music festivals, golf and skiing (Chalmazel 2 h, the Jura and the Alps are all feasible for day trips) are here to be enjoyed.
Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport is 1 hour by car, Geneva is 2.5 hours by car. Marseille is 3.5 hours. Calais is about 7.5 hours. TGV trains come to Lyon and Maçon. There is a private airport nearby at Frontenas for light aircraft.

This is a beautiful part of the world and it was nice to stay in a home that was full of history. You don't expect everything in the home to be what we're used to in our day-to-day existence but this place has drawing power! We were fortunate to time our visit when an festival of antique musical machines was featured in a nearby village. The sense of occasion, the period dress of those performing with their musical instruments and the orderliness of the village itself was something we will never forget. Couple all this with caring hosts and you have an experience that will be talked about for years to come!
Stayed in Roberts house for 4 days and loved it. In the middle of a little village surrounded by vineyards, the house had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Thank you very much
We spend 15 days of our honeymoon at the gite, mid-October, 2012. We rented a car which served us to explore and enjoy the villages and communities neighboring Moiré, yet many days & nights were spent happily cooking & enjoying the main floor, open kitchen & living space. Burning wood in the fireplace, drinking local wine, reading, trying new recipes, movies curled up on the couch, .. it was our home for 2 weeks, we slept well & found the space to let go and relax. Our to-do list included; a few beautiful rode trips through the Alps and exploring surrounding cities & villages, going to the patissier for baguette's, swinging by our favorite cave (Domaine la Guillardiere in Oingt), weekly farmer's market in Le Bois d'Oingt, hanging out in the secret garden watching the sunset.. The water in the pool was too cold for us to swim, next time. Even the view of the pool made us happy and we cooked with many of the herbs growing throughout the pool-side garden. And we hung our clothes on the outdoor line to dry.. a very inspiring & welcoming home space.
The neighbor's, main house on the grounds, were great & we loved their small dog Basel (sp?). The layout of the grounds and houses provide awesome privacy. There were a few roosters who had a lovely home near the back of the yard, whom we shared our vegetable scraps with - all this, made our holiday even more wonderful.
Robert is pleasure to work with! Great communication & details on the gite, Moiré, and the surroundings, very clean, a wonderful welcome upon arrival and all the special touches (thank you, Dawn). Amazing region, beautiful people, fabulous food & wine, and the gite. We will return!
Great for a two, comfortable space for four (kids or close friends/family).
From where should I began ?! The village is just an hour drive away from Lyon, and yet it is exactly the opposite of this crazy city. I could find calm and meet the beauty of nature in this part of France.
I stayed there with my father and uncle were visiting me, and I had the best decision to take them this house, we had a lot of fun. Everything was there, all we needed to bring is ourselves, and began enjoying the surroundings and the place itself.
Robert was the most kind and helpful even-thought he was traveling himself, he gave us a great example of British hospitality.
You can come here in all seasons, in the summer in the garden and the pool and in the winter for the ping pong table and chimney fire.
I would definitely love to come back again, hopefully you'll like it as much as I did.
We just had a great weekend at La Folie des Artistes in Beaujolais. We're a family of 4 with 2 young children. The gîte is fantastic, the garden is just perfect for the kids and the view when you open your window in the morning is breathtaking. It was a bit cold to enjoy the swimming pool like one should but it was very clean and well maintained.
A perfect getaway with young children!
We loved our stay at Robert's chateau. The village of Moire is lovely. It's a tiny village, typical of the area, with not much more that a few houses and the local church. It's a perfect base for exploring the Beaujolais and its many wineries.
Robert recommended several good restaurants in the area but we spent most nights cooking dinner in his huge kitchen and enjoying the views over the French countryside.
Robert was a great host and the communication before and during our stay was perfect. If you are looking for a peaceful location in the French countryside, then look no further than La Folie des Artistes, Beaujolais.
We found the Gite at Moire to be a perfect countryside getaway. Robert is a good communicator and worked with us to make sure everything went smoothly. The facilities are beautiful and the surrounding countryside is magnificent. Everything was clean and well maintained. We would not hesitate to rent from Robert in the future and recommend him highly.
