NOT 420 friendly. Private ground level suite is roomy, comfortable and clean. Offering a light continental breakfast, use of our hot tub, upscale neighborhood, convenient location close to public transportation and off-street parking.
The back yard and an 8 person hot tub. Enter the unit from this side. Off street parking behind the fence.
Our warm and private lower level suite includes two bedrooms (queen beds - one memory foam, one pillow-top), a bathroom with a shower, living room area with a gas fireplace, 32" TV, hot/cold water dispenser, mini fridge and microwave. Separated from the main level of the house with a locking door, and shared laundry space. We cut the chord on cable TV, but enjoy our Roku box with Netflix and Hulu Plus so you can stream movies and mainstream TV for free as well as getting all of the local TV channels and use our wireless connection. We are not 420 friendly.
Our location is convenient and centrally located. We are across the street from an ATM, and a block away from major bus stops at Monaco & Colfax. We are in the Car2Go district. You can easily catch an RTD bus to downtown Denver (runs 24/7 every 15 min), Tech Center and the Stapleton area (to DIA Shuttle). The house is 2.6 miles to I-70, straight down Monaco, so its a convenient stop on your way to or from the mountains or the airport. A perfect place to crash for a night before or after a red-eye flight en route to the Colorado Rockies. Spare yourself the high cost of renting near the slopes and expensive charter flights. Ski all day, drive 2.5 - 3 hours from the mountains to our place, come home to a clean bubbling hot tub, stay the night here and catch an early morning flight back -- A sensible way to end the perfect ski trip!
Within a few blocks there are major grocery stores (where you can buy bus passes), fast food, dry cleaners, 7-11 and a Walgreens drug store. Yet, our block is quiet and insulated from the bustle of Colfax and the busy city. A mile west on Colfax is Congress Park with music venues, upscale bars, gift stores and restaurants. To the north is the affluent neighborhood of Park Hill and the beautiful 17th street parkway; a serene place for a refreshing run or brisk walk. Five miles West on Colfax brings you to the heart of the city and the start of the free 16th street Mall shuttle - a great starting place to explore Denver's bustling night life.
We've been in Denver for over 25 years, so if you want to find something we'll be happy to make suggestions. Denver has some wonderful hidden places to eat ethnic food like Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Italian, Mexican, Greek, Dim Sum and Thai food. We're foodies, so we've tried them all and are happy to share our secret favorites with you. We love little hole-in-the-wall restaurants with amazing food and reasonable prices. Ask us about a terrific place for Chinese foot reflexology - really a full body massage for $25 + tip!
Our house is conveniently located near the following establishments: Denver Museum of Nature & Science and The Denver Zoo, National Jewish Hospital, Johnson Wales University. A short drive by car will get you to I-70 and access to rocky mountain skiing, Red Rocks natural amphitheater and white water rafting. These places are close by within 10 to 30 minutes of driving by car or the RTD: The Bluebird Theater, The Fillmore Auditorium, The Ogden Theater, 16th Street Mall, Cherry Creek, Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum, The Molly Brown House, The Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Center for Performing Arts Complex, Denver Children's Hospital, University Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, The Denver Coliseum, the Sports Authority Mile High Stadium, Coors Field, and the Pepsi Center.
If you are skiing, snowboarding, rafting, driving or working hard, relax in the 8 person hot tub. We keep it clean, warm and bubbly all year long and rarely use it. Enjoy a cup of tea by the fire. When you wake up, jump-start your day with homemade scones with jam/jelly or a bowl of yogurt and homemade granola, which we are happy to leave by your door for a continental breakfast. Off street parking is available next to our garage.
Well-behaved children with responsible parents are welcomed. There is a staircase, so the suite is not wheelchair accessible. We will try to avoid it, but extra cleaning fees may apply for more than two guest or if the space is left inordinately messy.
Guests have access to two bedrooms with queen beds; one small bathroom with a shower; a livingroom area with a TV, fireplace, microwave, mini fridge, hot and cold water bottle, and a small table. We share the laundry room and our back door. You can enjoy our back yard, covered porch and the hot tub. We also save one off-street parking space for our visitors.
A side note: At our age we dislike booze parties or marijuana tourism in our home so if that is what you are planning, this is not the spot for you. That said, we have no opinion on what you do off of our property.
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes we don't even get a chance to meet our guests. We try to find a time to introduce ourselves and we leave notes with breakfast. If you need anything we are right upstairs. Guests text and knock on the door to get our attention. We share the back door, porch and laundry room so we cross paths there and have an opportunity to greet eachother. But interraction is infrequent.
Our neighborhood is upscale. We live near the 17th Avenue parkway with mansions and lovely gardens. A 1/2 mile away on East Colfax are entertainment venues, ethnic food, urban shopping and coffee houses. Its a 20 minute ride to downtown Denver where there is an array of urban excursions to be had.
We live on the edge of the Cars2go boundary on Monaco. Also Uber, Yellow cab and Metro cab are available. Our house is close to the bus line to downtown Denver (20 minute ride) and DTC. We are about a mile from I-70 if you are driving to the mountains, or are catching a red-eye at DIA (airport).
Other Things to Note
We don't allow smoking pot in our home or on our property. You can smoke cigarettes on the porch outside. Please, no drinking while you are in the hot tub. Our party days are behind us and we do not wish to have that element in our home. We have no opinion on what you do once you leave our space.
No smoking in the house, but you can smoke on the porch outside.
We are not 420 friendly.
We do not allow other pets to be here. Our senior dog is territorial and doesn't do well with other dogs (loves people).
Please don't try to pet the cat if she is outside, she is skittish and sometimes bites friendly people.
No little kids or inebriated people in the hot tub, please. Use the hot tub at your own risk and avoid it if you have health issues.
Please be respectful of our yard, pets and neighbors. We prefer guests who are not heavy drinkers. No parties in our home please.
Please do not give the combination to our back door out without our permission.
I had a very good experience staying at this place. The hosts were generous with the basic food and drink supplies. Delicious continental breakfast in the morning, and the fridge with water and juices. Fresh fruit every day, coffee, tea and fresh drinking water. Two bedrooms with different beds to suit people's needs. One bed was more firm in the other bed more soft. Very comfortable living space and a hot tub in the backyard which made my stay even that much better. Ling and Chris respected our privacy and were available whenever we needed them.
It was a pleasure to stay with Ling and Chris. Their basement apartment is clean, warm and nicely decorated. The breakfast scones were served with three homemade jams. We arrived late and felt very welcome. Ling kept contact with us to make sure all was gong well.
Ling and Chris responded to my questions promptly and were very welcoming. Easy yet secure access to the property. Off street parking was so convenient. This basement apartment is spacious enough for four people although I stayed alone there. Yummiest homemade scones and jam or yogurt and granola so graciously prepared and presented every morning. Hot/cold water cooler, instant oatmeal, tea, utensils, plates, glasses, condiments, fruit...it felt like home. Location was perfect for me. Steps from Colfax, 10 minutes from Rte. 70, 30 minutes from DIA. Outdoor hot tub with color-changing light was a gas at night. Plenty of towels and toiletries, comfy couch, bed, pillows, flat screen TV. Can't beat it!
My hosts were friendly when I arrived and complied with everything I asked for. I did not explore the neighborhood; this was not a vacation trip. The breakfast scones and homemake jam were delicious. Apartment was spacious and warm.
Our stay with Ling and Chris was excellent. The unit was very clean and accommodating. The downtown Denver area was very easily accessible via cab (we also even walked to downtown one day), but also has a number of its own restaurants if you aren't looking to travel. They also went out of their way to provide several amenities that I imagine many other hosts don't (optional breakfast each morning, lots of sightseeing recommendations, toiletries, etc).
To be greeted every morning with homemade scones and jam? Need I say more? Okay, I will: a simple and immaculate apartment. If I'd known the frig would be stocked with milk, butter, juice, etc, or that there would be a mini set-up of tea, coffee, silverware, etc, or that the bathroom would contain the necessaries (shampoo, etc), I would not have dragged this stuff from NYC. Tons of towels, a laundry room right outside the door, a guestbook to explain Denver… We were in Denver to visit family so Ling and Chris' apartment served us admirably, as well as central to metro Denver. There was onsite parking so no worry about moving the car, or parking at night, which we did all the nights, although the neighborhood was fine. And their rate (I know you are all interested) was absolutely fair. Many thanks, Ling and Chris, for making a rental so easy.
I stayed with my mom for 12 days at Ling and Chris' listing and we LOVED IT! The property is prettier than it looks on the pictures. It is cozy, perfectly clean, silent, has everything you can need or even more. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished. Everything works fine and they provide all kind of goodies; you can barely bring your tooth brush and you are fine.
Your day starts with either fresh yoghurt with granola and fruit beautifully presented on a lovely tray, or the daily-made-from-scratch amazing Ling's scones served with different kind of homemade jelly...yummy!
The spa is awesome and it's a great bonus after a long day walking Denver.
The house is only steps from Colfax avenue that takes you right to downtown; the bus stops are just in the corner, very convenient, and the bus system is great! My mom and I came back home late every night and we always felt safe. There are all kinds of stores and restaurants nearby.
Before finalizing the reservation, Ling always got back to me nicely and right away to all of my questions (and I had a few ; ).
Ling and Chris were very helpful with any needs we had, and they were also very respectful to our privacy.
I DEFINITELY recommend this place!!
My husband, Chris and I are empty nesters. I am an art director and he is in logistics. I transplanted to Denver in 1979 from Bucks County PA and he is from Buffalo NY. We have 3 wonderful grandchildren and 4 grown-up children.
We enjoy simple evenings, a card game with good friends, blues/rock music, and slow drives through the foothills on his Honda Shadow. We don't drink or party at all anymore; just appreciate life, laughter, the kids, each other and of course our wonderful spoiled little pooch, Gina.
I am always busy canning, gardening, and cooking. I love to grow, pick and home process fresh organic food; making everything from scratch. We have simple taste and prefer to do road trips and bed-n-breakfasts to luxury hotels. We love hot springs, skiing, white water rafting, live music, ethnic foods and belly laughs with good friends. Chris likes fixing up motorcycles and to sell online. We watch football (I am a Broncos fan - he's a Bills sorta guy) and are addicted to tv sagas on Netflix.
Our motto is "One day at a time."
