The Space

Welcome to NYC! This art-filled, modern loft is located on 12th Street, between Union Square and Washington Square in Greenwich Village--the heart of downtown Manhattan.

The 750 sq ft loft is on the 4th floor of a classic NYC cast iron facade building on a fantastically quiet block. It is literally steps from everything downtown has to offer, The Strand Bookstore, The Greenmarket at Union Square, NYU, The East and West village, Meatpacking, SOHO, NOHO, NOLITA, Flatiron, Gramercy Park, Tribeca, FiDi and Chelsea.

The best shopping the city has to offer is all around--the amazing fashion boutiques of Bleeker St and avant-gaurde offerings in Chelsea and Tribeca. All the major furniture galleries are right downstairs and emerging designer labels can be found all around in the East Village, Noho, Nolita and Lower East Side. The new hip-strip all along the Bowery with stores, bars and restaurants is just a few mins away. Are you an art lover? All the major galleries in West Chelsea are just an amazing walk up the Highline Park--A Must See! There are also all the emerging galleries and the New Museum close by on the Bowery and LES.

The building has a secure card entry system and keyed elevator access. Once you walk into the well lit wood floored loft, you'll find an open space with cleverly separated areas. To make sure you're always comfortable, there is heating, A/C and ceiling fans as well.

The bedroom area has a new queen size bed and nightstands with reading lamps that you can dim. There is a small rack with wooden hangers to make sure your suits, dresses, shirts stay wrinkle free.

For storage, there is a large white cabinet with as many shelves as you need. You'll also find a bookcase with hundreds of tittles in case you need something to read. If you are coming with an infant or toddler we may be able to furnish you with a travel cot and stroller for your visit.

The living area has a modern couch, a concrete coffee table and a pair of rare, 3 legged Arne Jacobsen Ant Chairs. There is music system that you can hook up your Ipod to and a 40" Flat Screen HD television connected to full Cable TV, including nearly every premium movie channel. Should there be more than 2 people staying in the loft, the couch can easily convert into a very comfortable bed (not a pull out or futon) well suited for a couple. If you prefer not to share the "guest" bed, we also have double height, queen size aerobes a queen size that is available.
There are extra sheets, blankets, and pillows in the cabinet.

In the dining area, there is a wood table that can seat up to 6 people with room to spare. Should you need one, there is a wireless printer tucked away on the vintage steel counter near the refrigerator.

There is a stainless steel chef's kitchen stocked with an incredible array of cooking ingredients, specialty items and spices. There are convenient tools for your use such as coffee and espresso makers, a toaster and instant hot water dispenser. Lastly, you'll find no shortage of place settings, champagne flutes and wine glasses to make sure you'll have a grand time.

WIth the Union Square Greenmarket, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and loads of specialty boutiques just downstairs you are in food heaven! Even though the kitchen has everything you need to cook amazing meals, most of the city's best restaurants, bars and lounges are incredibly close by. We're always happy to make a long list of recommendations!

The loft has a private bath with rain shower and a vintage claw-foot, extra large bath. Your stay will be luxurious and comfortable with amenities like a new washer/dryer, hairdryer, candles, and emergency toiletries/bathroom supplies, just in case you forget something at home. Just in case your dress or suit need a refresh, there is a professional steamer tucked away in the bathroom as well.

One of the best parts of this loft (especially in the Spring, Summer or Autumn) is that it has direct access to a large, 2-tiered fire escape for those who want the quintessential NY view. On pleasant nights, you can enjoy a glass of wine or have a beer while barbecuing on the small cast iron grill.

This is NYC at it's most convenient, most affordable, most secure and most iconic!

We hope that people who select to stay in our loft feel like they are at home. In that spirit, we encourage our guests to use anything they wish in the loft. We try to keep it stocked full of things people enjoy, from a vast array of items to compliment even the most creative cooks, a large selection of art and literature books, to various types of coffee makers, to a selection of bottles to seek out your inner mixologist!

The only thing we ask is that you either try to replace what you use or leave us money to do so upon you departure. We ask this so that all our guests can enjoy feeling at home when they visit.

We love interacting with our guests as much as they wish. That said, the loft functions completely independently so guests can maintain the level of privacy that they are comfortable with. Of course, should you need anything or have a question, we're around to help.

Location, Location, Location... The area between Union Square and Washington Square is the most convenient place for getting around day or night.

We are also surrounded by the most vibrant food, bar and shopping areas in the city both in terms of restaurants, stores, and markets. Getting to most of the hip (and often fantastic!) outposts in Brooklyn is also extremely simple from our neighborhood.

Every Major subway line is within a few short blocks with the transit hub of Union Square being the closest (2 mins, away)! We also have a network of buses passing through and many, many Citibike stations.

Best of all, walking anywhere is simple and safe from our neighborhood--anytime day or night.

If you need anything or any advice prior or during your stay, please feel free to reach out. We love our guests to feel at home and to become New Yorkers the instant they decide to stay in our loft.

  • Our family of four had a wonderful stay in this beautiful, clean, secure and spacious apartment. Sandy and Julie were extremely accommodating and attentive to detail. The apartment has a comfortable bed and a sofa that converts. Our girls wanted separate beds so Sandy graciously provided a very comfortable inflatable bed that fit nicely in the space. We are especially grateful for the many suggestions for activities and places to eat that would appeal to my husband and I as well as our 2 daughters. The location just cannot be beat. Our only wish is that we could have stayed (many) more days!

  • We had a lovely time staying in Sandy and Juliet's fab Bohemian apartment- close to Greenwich village shops and bars- 2 mins from the Subway but a quiet retreat. Probably the best deli in New York Agata and Valentina is round the corner and the local cafe's are great

  • Our stay in NY could not have been better than in this fabulous loft. The very central location, the fully equiped appartment together with the kindness of Julie and Sandy help to make our hollidays unforgatable. They both know the town very well and gave us lots of tips (notably where to find the best doughnuts !) We hope to be back soon.
And a special thought from France to Enzo (the dog)!

  • Sandy and family could not make us feel more welcome. The loft was exactly what we were looking for and gave us the space to stretch out and enjoy time with our adult daughter. The sunny loft was very clean and well appointed. The building and area are very safe and centrally located. As an added bonus they are happy to share their loveable family dog named Enzo. If I could have slipped him in my luggage.... Enzo is the perfect NYC ambassador! We stayed 5 wonderful nights and can't wait to return in the Spring. Highly recommend this loft for a couple, small family, or friends.

  • Sandy's loft was great, and exactly as promised. It was a perfect oasis for me in Manhattan, and made me feel almost like home! The location near Union Square subway station and in walking distance to most of downtown, and in a quiet neighborhood that's only a couple of blocks from Whole Foods, was also a big plus. And you could not find a more helpful, nicer host. Everything was smooth sailing!

  • My wife and I spent a wonderful 9 days at Sandy's apartment/loft. Sandy is a wonderfully thoughtful and helpful host. The loft is in a great location--easy access to city buses and subways and close to excellent neighborhood restaurants, coffee shops, and bookstores. His loft is roomy, well-furnished, well-equipped, with a well-stocked kitchen and good security. All in all, it was an ideal place for our many NYC activities. We also enjoyed meeting Enzo, Sandy's dog--he made us feel at home too.

Thanks Robert! You and Peggy were lovely to have as neighbors for those 9 days! I'm glad the location suited you and the loft lived up to your needs! We're lucky to have such thoughtful guests and I'm really looking forward to seeing you again on your next jaunt to NYC! Happy Holidays and all the best for a spectacular New Year!

  • My sister, my mum and I stayed here for 16 nights and had a great time. The apartment is well equipped with a full kitchen, washer, dryer and loads of space. It was really great having our own laundry and kitchen and having a living area was excellent too. It was really clean and beautifully adorned with furniture and art. Also - there was a bath tub. YAY!

The apartment is in a great part of the city - not the neon lights and comedy show hawkers like Times Square but full of great bookstores, antique stores and cafes. There's a great farmer's market at Union Square a few days a week and during the festive season some excellent Christmas markets are on which we made full use of (because hot apple cider is obviously the best drink in the world).

The apartment was great and an excellent base for our two weeks. The subway from Union Square got us uptown, downtown and all around. Right at Union Square there's a Wholefoods and a strange abundance of drugstores which all appear to be open 24 hours.

Sandy was a great host - really generous and helpful and gave us many great tips about NYC. Sandy and his family (including the best dog in the world, Enzo) were so lovely - thank you for all your help.

    See you soon!

I am delighted you enjoyed your stay here and you liked this part of New York City. (Obviously, I share the same preferences ;-) ) Having you, your sis and your Mum was our pleasure--you guys were fantastic neighbors; even Enzo misses having you around! Please come back and visit anytime you wish. We would be lucky to have the good fortune of welcoming you and your family again. Safe travels onwards! s
