The Space

Come stay with us in a real New Orleans neighborhood. Be our guests in our charming mid-century home.
You get a fully furnished side of our double shotgun house. There is also a porch swing and bistro table to people watch. Inside is 800 sq ft of newly remodeled, bright rooms for up to six people. There are two bedrooms with real queen beds and comforters, pillows, and linens. This is a shotgun house, for those that aren't familiar, one room leads to another as you go to the rear of the house, with the rear bedroom being totally private. The house comes completely furnished with kitchenware, towels, coffee-maker, microwave, wi-fi, fold-out full futon, and even laundry facilities in our backyard.
In the neighborhood, we're a half block from da Joint bbq, Jimmy's Grocery and 1-3 blocks from local bars; J&J's Sports Lounge, Vaughans, and BJ's. There is live music, art galleries, more bars, coffee shops and restaurants, all with a local feel within the bywater/marigny area leading to the French Quarter. You're still 10 minutes bike ride from the quarter, 5 min in car, 1 block from bus and 35 min walk.
We live right next door and both work in the quarter, so we're always around to help and can give you many more suggestions, both locally and tourist oriented. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sorry but we do not book guests more than 5 months in advance.

We now have bicycles available! 2 women's cruisers and 2 men's cruisers. They come with locks, helmets and lights. If you're interested in renting the bicycles, let us know in your inquiry and we will go over the details with you.

  • We stayed at Bywater Treasure for a week and within 30 mins of arriving Carmen was there to check all was ok. Carmen made sure we were looked after and gave (email hidden) round the local area so that we felt at home. House fantastic and very authentic. Excellent area, quiet and very friendly locals. Shop and local bar just at the corner. We sampled the famous potato chips left out for us and there was plenty of drinking water and fresh towels.
Lots of information available for visitors, we used the bus number 5 and 88 however I see there is a new addition of bikes now available which is a great idea. Sample the local music on Mondays and Thursdays it is worth it again round the corner. Carmen responded to any queries prior to the visit very promptly and kept us well informed.
Can't recommend this place too highly was a great location and great local people........we did not want to go home......

  • Very accommodating hosts. Even though they lived right next door they weren't intrusive at all. The Listing was exactly as we expected. Very spacious, clean and tidy. The neighborhood is great, very quiet, some great bars and restaurants nearby; makes you feel like your living there like a local. It's a little far from French Quarter, Garden district, etc. so bikes were essential.

  • Fabulous place! Lovely and spacious, and the AC was up to the challenge of the summer heat and humidity! Friendly, neighborhood vibe... very different from staying in a hotel in the French Quarter or CBD. We spent a couple of great nights at Bywater places and had a great time. I enjoy walking, but some might prefer to bike when heading to restaurants and bars in other areas of the city in order to save time. Several good bus routes nearby, so there are public transportation options too. I'm looking forward to staying here on future visits!

  • Our stay at Carmen and Steve's was just as promised--lovely and charming ! The house was nicely decorated, had all the amenities it said it had, and there were even snacks and cold water bottles awaiting us. The whole experience was easy, friendly and we would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit NOLA. Thanks again !

  • We had a fantastic time in New Orleans and especially appreciated having such a spacious, clean, and fun place to stay. Though we didn't interact a whole lot with Carmen and Steve they were both very kind and quick to suggest some cool spots for us to check out—and we appreciated the privacy since it was our honeymoon, after all. It was really everything we could have asked for.

  • Absolutely the best! Three friends and I stayed at Carmen and Steve's house for four days over Memorial Day weekend and we could not have been happier with the choice. First off, the house is in a great neighborhood. It is walking distance to Frenchmen Street and the craziness of the French Quarter, but we ended up spending more time in Bywater and neighboring Marigny because there were so many great restaurants and bars. I recommend Vaughn's on Thursdays for great music and the Joint for great BBQ. Both RIGHT around the corner. Secondly, the house is adorable and very comfortable. Two full size beds (in two private rooms, which was great since many shot gun style homes don't afford much privacy), storage for clothes and personal belongings, very clean, and sweetly decorated. Lastly, they left us clean towels, local delicious coffee, water bottles chilled in the fridge, and some local snacks. We unfortunately did not get to meet Carmen or Steve, but they were very kind and welcoming in all of our communication and available to answer any questions. In other words, STAY HERE! You're bound to have a great and comfortable stay.

  • Couldn't recommend the Bywater Treasure more. Two perfect nights. The Bywater is hard to beat. Plenty of good eating and drinking there alone. Walked to the Quarter both nights anyway b/c we could and it's such a pleasant stroll especially if you stop in J&J's and rap with the friendly folks there en route. Carmen & Steve both cool as heck and left us be unless we reached out. The place itself really is a treasure and the turntable with a nice little stack of choice vinyl was just the thing.

  • This place was everything Carmen and Steve said it would be. A very cozy and quiet place to stay within walking distance of some local gems. The water in the fridge and endless supply of Zapp's was a nice touch, and they were super quick to respond to any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again!
