Interaction with Guests
We live right next door and both work in the neighborhood, so we're always around to help and can give you many more suggestions, both locally and tourist oriented. Please don't hesitate to ring our bell or shoot us a text with any questions or concerns you may have.
In the neighborhood, we're near Da Joint bbq, Jimmy's Grocery and 1-3 blocks from local bars; J&J's Sports Lounge, Vaughans, and BJ's. There is live music, art galleries, more bars, coffee shops and restaurants, all with a local feel within the bywater/marigny area leading to the French Quarter. We have a welcome basket located on the coffee table with fact sheets, maps, menus and other useful info to help you out through your stay. Press the guest book link at the top of our listing homepage for a map and descriptions of some of our local bars, shops and eateries.
You'll be just a 10 minutes bike ride from the quarter, 5 min in a car, and a 30 min walk. The #5 marigny/bywater bus picks up and drops off 1/2 a block from the house. It is a day bus that runs until around 6pm. There is another bus on St. Claude about 4 blocks away that runs until 11pm on the weekdays and 1am on the weekends. If you're planning on staying out late and doing a little partying, we suggest taking a cab which will run between $7-$10.
We have the cab number printed on our fact sheet in the basket on the coffee table.
Other Things to Note
If you are expecting 5 star hotel accommodations this will not be the place for you. Our place is clean, comfortable, and we've only had one unsatisfied guest in 2 years of being airbnb hosts. We are both in the hospitality industry and really work hard to try and make our guests comfy.
Sorry but we do not book guests more than 5 months in advance.
During Mardi Gras, and Jazz Fest we require a 4 night minimum stay. We do not split these weekends.
-No smoking indoors. There is a bistro table on the porch for smoking or you can smoke
on the back porch.
-Please use coasters provided on wooden surfaces.
-Please conserve energy by turning off lights and AC when leaving the house.
-Respect our neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum after midnight.
-We have indoor/outdoor cats on our side of the house. Please do not let them into the
side of the house you are renting. They are very friendly and will try to charm you into
letting them in. Just say no. :-)
We were warmly welcomed by Carmen, and she was always available for any information!
The house matched our expectations:
good location and very clean, we were even surprised to find all the tools to cook! We had some lunch there and we listened to all your records; bathroom and bedrooms in perfect conditions.
I would highly recommed this stay.
Thank you Carmen!
Carmen's house is exactly like in the pictures. It was super easy to check in and out. The place is very close to the French Quarter (10 - 15 minutes by car / 10 dollar ride) and there is a parking spot right in front of the house. Everyone is the neighbourhood is friendly and everything we needed was near by: A small grocery shop, nice restaurants (The Joint, Elizabeth's) and nice bars like J&J’s Sports Lounge if you want to have some drinks and a good time with locals. Carmen is a great host, a super cool girl and was one of the reasons we had a wonderful time in New Orleans!
This was my first experience with Airbnb and I was totally thrilled. Carmen was incredibly accommodating and easy to communicate with. The home was true to the listing. It felt spacious and every detail of the decor was thought out and adorable. I LOVED the New Orleans chips and that she provided coffee from a local roaster. It was fun to be near to and discover so many hidden gems in the neighborhood that are off the average tourist path such as Bacchanal, The Joint, and Elizabeth's. We never would have considered these places if we weren't a few minutes walk away and they were each some of the highlights of our weekend! We loved coming back to our "home" everyday and sitting on the porch. The only thing that would have made our stay better was if we had rented a car. It was easy enough to use Uber or call a cab to get around, however it significantly added to the overall expenses of the trip. The walk to Frenchman street and the French Quarter is doable but not ideal. (Also, all of the Uber drivers we met while in New Orleans were so friendly and happy and eager to share about their city, it was great!) If I come back to New Orleans I would definitely stay here again and rent a car.
Carmen made sure that we had all the information we needed to get into the house in advance, and was available to help us, should we need anything during our stay.
The home was in a pretty quiet neighborhood, eclectic and authentic. We decided to do a lot of walking when we were there, and really got to see and experience the neighborhood by walking both to the French quarter (during the day) and to Bacchanal a few blocks away (in the evening). I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable walking to the quarter or Frenchman street at night.
The house itself was well-appointed and welcoming. It definitely felt like a home and not a hotel. The beds were comfortable enough, plenty of towels in the bathroom, a nice kitchen (supplied with some Zapps chips, bottles of water, and a few other things in the refrigerator, presumably left by other guests), local channels on the TV, and a turntable with a nice selection of vinyls to listen to. It was hot when we were there, but there were three hard-working window-units which made the stay pretty comfortable.
All-in-all, we felt that Carmen was a great host and we enjoyed our stay.
Carmen's place was absolutely adorable, and just as pictured. The bottled water and cabinet full of chips were a lifesaver after being trying to take on all that is New Orleans.
The location was convenient and the neighborhood was great for all of the places we wanted to explore.
Carmen was easy to communicate with and we got in/out with no problem. If you want to use the bikes, be sure to arrange with her in advance.
Thanks again for hosting us!!
Great place in a really cool neighbourhood! Carmen was very helpful and made some great local recommendations for food and hanging out. The place was large and had two big beds (one in its own room with a closing door, the other in an open room between the living room and the kitchen), a kitchen and a living room (with a futon couch), plus a front porch for hanging out. Chips in the cupboard, water in the fridge, shampoo/conditioner/soap in the shower and bug spray too. There was coffee and a record player and the place is stylishly decorated. She lives just next door so that's convenient if you were to need anything, which we didn't.
