Interaction with Guests
We live right next door and both work in the neighborhood, so we're always around to help and can give you many more suggestions, both locally and tourist oriented. Please don't hesitate to ring our bell or shoot us a text with any questions or concerns you may have.
In the neighborhood, we're near Da Joint bbq, Jimmy's Grocery and 1-3 blocks from local bars; J&J's Sports Lounge, Vaughans, and BJ's. There is live music, art galleries, more bars, coffee shops and restaurants, all with a local feel within the bywater/marigny area leading to the French Quarter. We have a welcome basket located on the coffee table with fact sheets, maps, menus and other useful info to help you out through your stay. Press the guest book link at the top of our listing homepage for a map and descriptions of some of our local bars, shops and eateries.
You'll be just a 10 minutes bike ride from the quarter, 5 min in a car, and a 30 min walk. The #5 marigny/bywater bus picks up and drops off 1/2 a block from the house. It is a day bus that runs until around 6pm. There is another bus on St. Claude about 4 blocks away that runs until 11pm on the weekdays and 1am on the weekends. If you're planning on staying out late and doing a little partying, we suggest taking a cab which will run between $7-$10.
We have the cab number printed on our fact sheet in the basket on the coffee table.
Other Things to Note
If you are expecting 5 star hotel accommodations this will not be the place for you. Our place is clean, comfortable, and we've only had one unsatisfied guest in 2 years of being airbnb hosts. We are both in the hospitality industry and really work hard to try and make our guests comfy.
Sorry but we do not book guests more than 5 months in advance.
During Mardi Gras, and Jazz Fest we require a 4 night minimum stay. We do not split these weekends.
-No smoking indoors. There is a bistro table on the porch for smoking or you can smoke
on the back porch.
-Please use coasters provided on wooden surfaces.
-Please conserve energy by turning off lights and AC when leaving the house.
-Respect our neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum after midnight.
-We have indoor/outdoor cats on our side of the house. Please do not let them into the
side of the house you are renting. They are very friendly and will try to charm you into
letting them in. Just say no. :-)
In my eyes, Bywater is THE place to be! A calm safe villagy feel .. in walking distance (20 min) to the action in the Frenchquarter. Carmen offers bikes too .. well, walking felt easier to me than driving them!
If you are a 'night owl' and in Nole to enjoy music events all night long, choose a place closer to the center, as France Street is at the far end of Bywater.
Carmen's place is not perfect, but cute, and if you love salty snacks you will be delighted about the generous offer in the kitchen cupboard ;-))
an other major plus: the small 'has it all'-shop right at the corner is open 24 hours ;-)
We were a bit dissappointed though that Carmen didn't show up to welcome us or let us know where the bikes are. We waited 4 hours for her to come over, allthough she lives litterarly next door.
Carmen is a great host ! she was helpful, we followed her suggestion and thanks ti her we lived New Orleans as a local! her house is exactly as we expected it, very cool and in a great position!
Carmen was very welcoming and we ended up meeting her in person after a bike ride. She is very knowledgeable of the area and gave us great suggestions. The place fit our needs great and it was a short (hot) bike ride to the quarter from her house so great location!
This was as great and welcoming as you expect from the pictures on the posting. Clean, hip, comfortable, quiet, charming and conveniently located, I will most definitely recommend this place to my friends and come back when I get a chance to visit New Orleans again. Carmen was readily available for questions and helped us get in when we first arrived. This is really a great place if you want to chill out and enjoy the neighborhood. We especially liked the outdoors front porch and interior design. This place is the bomb, for reals.
Cool place. Great location. My French friends were so charmed w NOLO. Carmen was very sweet. Gladly offered places to eat, etc.
Brilliant clean and quirky place which is a great reflection of the area. Bathroom had all the essentials provided and fresh linens. The kitchen was stocked with crisps and oats if you needed. Coffee, tea and sugar. The porch was my fav, loves sitting out there on the swing and absorbing the neighborhood and listening to records. Thank you so much for having us.
Staying at Carmen's place during our trip to NOLA was a great experience! Checking in and out was a breeze and everything in the apartment matched our expectations. The neighborhood is in a convenient location and is much more than meets the eye! Would definitely recommend staying here.
