In the neighborhood, we're near Da Joint bbq, Jimmy's Grocery and 1-3 blocks from local bars; J&J's Sports Lounge, Vaughans, and BJ's. There is live music, art galleries, more bars, coffee shops and restaurants, all with a local feel within the bywater/marigny area leading to the French Quarter. It is a day bus that runs until around 6pm. There is another bus on St. Claude about 4 blocks away that runs until 11pm on the weekdays and 1am on the weekends. If you're planning on staying out late and doing a little partying, we suggest taking a cab which will run between $7-$10.
We have the cab number printed on our fact sheet in the basket on the coffee table.
Other Things to Note
If you are expecting 5 star hotel accommodations this will not be the place for you. Our place is clean, comfortable, and we've only had one unsatisfied guest in 2 years of being airbnb hosts. We are both in the hospitality industry and really work hard to try and make our guests comfy.
Sorry but we do not book guests more than 5 months in advance.
During Mardi Gras, and Jazz Fest we require a 4 night minimum stay. We do not split these weekends.
-No smoking indoors. There is a bistro table on the porch for smoking or you can smoke
on the back porch.
-Please use coasters provided on wooden surfaces.
-Please conserve energy by turning off lights and AC when leaving the house.
-Respect our neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum after midnight.
-We have indoor/outdoor cats on our side of the house. Please do not let them into the
side of the house you are renting. They are very friendly and will try to charm you into
letting them in. Just say no. :-)
We absolutely loved our stay! We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch and the convenient location to the French Quarter (less than 2 miles). The photos and description were spot on. The host had nice little extras like cold water in the fridge, all the coffee fixings, and even local potato chips! The beds and furniture were comfortable, the whole place was spotless, and the air conditioning and fans worked great to keep us cool. I can't say enough good things about this place. If we ever find ourselves back in New Orleans (and I hope we do), we wouldn't stay anywhere else!!
What an incredible place to stay when visiting NOLA! The Bywater neighborhood was a wonderful home base while visiting. Adorable and quieter neighborhood oozing with charm. The house itself was perfect for what we needed. Loved the record player, the air conditioners to help us Coloradans who have been living without humidity, and the basket full of eating/visiting directions, visitor guides and nearby restaurant menus.
By far the greatest part of the rental was the 4 bikes. It was a quick 12 minute bike ride into the French Quarter and helped us get around to see so much more of the city.
Truly a wonderful rental house and Carmen was just great! We will definitely be back!
We had a great time at Carmen's place. The apartment was clean and spacious, and the included bottled water and coffee was very convenient. My girlfriend loved the extensive owl decor. We thoroughly enjoyed The Joint and Bacchanal nearby as well. Cabs were cheap to the French quarter. Would stay here again!
The house was exactly as pictured. Response times were quick. Easy access was a plus for us. We had everything we needed and then more (like bottles of water and chips). Parking was easy and the short walk to The Joint was great. Plenty of towels and a Johnny Cash album. :-)
The house is exactly as pictured. It is very warm and inviting and there is plenty of space. Bywater is also a very charming neighborhood. There were plenty of trendy restaurants within walking distance. However, if you stay here, I recommend renting a car as it is not close to the French Quarter, Jackson Square, St. Charles, or other parts of New Orleans. We came for Jazz Fest and had to cab it everywhere which became costly.
While I did not meet Carmen or Steve, Jeremy was very helpful. He provided useful information and even brought me an Advil when I wasn't feeling well.
Overall, I'd give this place a 7 out of 10.
Staying at Carmen's was a "big easy" experience...we arrived in NOLA and it was a quick cab ride from the airport to the house. Carmen was not home but everything to gain access into our place was easily done. The apartment was as advertised including snacks, bottled water, and coffee which was much appreciated during our three night stay.
The accommodations were nice and we felt very comfortable while we were there. The location was easy to navigate around NOLA and we found some nice places to eat and drink that were close-by.
We could easily return to stay at Carmens home....
