We live right next door and both work in the neighborhood, so we're always around to help and can give you many more suggestions, both locally and tourist oriented. Please don't hesitate to ring our bell or shoot us a text with any questions or concerns you may have.
In the neighborhood, we're a half block from da Joint bbq, Jimmy's Grocery and 1-3 blocks from local bars; J&J's Sports Lounge, Vaughans, and BJ's. There is live music, art galleries, more bars, coffee shops and restaurants, all with a local feel within the bywater/marigny area leading to the French Quarter. We have a welcome basket located on the coffee table with fact sheets, maps, menus and other useful info to help you out through your stay. You'll be just a 10 minutes bike ride from the quarter, 5 min in a car, and a 30 min walk. The #5 marigny/bywater bus picks up and drops off 1/2 a block from the house. It is a day bus that runs until around 6pm. There is another bus on St. Claude about 4 blocks away that runs until 11pm on the weekdays and 1am on the weekends. If you're planning on staying out late and doing a little partying, we suggest taking a cab which will run between $7-$10.
We have the cab number printed on our fact sheet in the basket on the coffee table.
Other Things to Note
If you are expecting 5 star hotel accommodations this will not be the place for you. Our place is clean, comfortable, and we've only had one unsatisfied guest in 2 years of being airbnb hosts. We are both in the hospitality industry and really work hard to try and make our guests comfy.
Sorry but we do not book guests more than 5 months in advance.
During Mardi Gras, and Jazz Fest we require a 4 night minimum stay. We do not split these weekends.
-No smoking indoors. There is a bistro table on the porch for smoking or you can smoke
on the back porch.
-Please use coasters provided on wooden surfaces.
-Please conserve energy by turning off lights and AC when leaving the house.
-Respect our neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum after midnight.
-We have indoor/outdoor cats on our side of the house. Please do not let them into the
side of the house you are renting. They are very friendly and will try to charm you into
letting them in. Just say no. :-)
We were lucky to stay at Carmen and Steve’s awesome home in the Bywater during our trip to NOLA. Not sure what we enjoyed more visiting the French Quarter Festival or lounging at this cozy spot. The listing was spot on and Carmen made it very easy to access the unit since we arrived very late at night. The house was stocked with waters and snacks which was great! Walking distance to cool bars, short cab to the FQ and just a block from the best BBQ I have ever had (The Joint). Highly recommended for any trip to NOLA. Thanks for everything!
We had a beautiful time! Everything felt very homey. And what could be better than a place that comes with transportation? We loved having the bikes, and the welcome basket with menus was really helpful for deciding where to eat. Carmen and Steve were friendly and available by text when we needed things. Everything written in the listing is a good representation of what we found. No surprises here! Except the cats did not pester us to be let in; they very politely hung around the porch.
Big thumbs up to Carmen and Steve for their warm welcome to their charming and comfortable home. It was just as it is shown on the site. Great location, perfectly outfitted house with lots of fluffy towels and everything you need to make your stay relaxing. The bikes were an extra bonus and it was really great to have them. Super close to BJ's, The Joint, and Bacchanal too! Carmen was super responsive to all of our questions. Can't wait to go back!
Beautiful house and gracious host. Perfect for our weekend with friends!
I lived in the neighborhood for four years, so my partner and I just needed two nights to spend peacefully on our own in a clean environment close to lots of amenities within walking distance. Carmen and Steve's was the perfect choice. They even had a record player! Thank you!
Carmen was timely in her responses to our questions, and we arrived to find the key to the apartment stashed away securely in a lock box to which a code had been provided. First impressions of the house was it was clean and the perfect size for our group of five, the refrigerator had been stocked with water, and the cabinets loaded with Zapp's chips which we found to be quite delightful. The apartment is also equipped with a functional hairdryer, iron and ironing board, as well as coffee and a coffee maker. We had rented a car, and parking near the Bywater Treasure was plentiful.
There are numerous options nearby to enjoy a delicious meal in the Bywater. We gulped $10 bottomless mimosas for Sunday brunch at The Country Club and licked our fingers after ribs, pulled pork, and brisket at the Joint. Carmen and Steven include the phone numbers for these eatery's in a welcome basket on the coffee table.
Basically, for the money, the Bywater Treasure is totally worth it and we had a great stay. Thank you!
Carmen's place was perfect for our stay, with all the amenities we needed. It is nicely decorated with music memorabilia and retro items and has an open uncluttered feel. The neighborhood is lovely and in close proximity to many Bywater bars, restaurants, and the waterfront park. It was especially wonderful to sit on the porch in the morning and listen to live music emanating from neighboring homes. Carmen was easily reached whenever we had questions - helpful but unobtrusive. I would definitely stay here again!!
